Brown Sugar December 2017 Review

Included in the box is a mini magazine with various articles for my reading enjoyment. This month’s theme is “Sparkle & Shine.”

“I Came to Sleigh” V-Neck Long Sleeve Tee

“I Came to Sleigh” V-Neck Long Sleeve Tee – Listed Value $25.00 (found here in a sweatshirt for $48.00)

I had seen spoilers of this item on Instagram, and I was excited to receive this festive tee. This red long sleeve v-neck tee is made from 100% ringspun cotton and made in the USA. The v-neck tee has “I Came to Sleigh” on the front with Santa and his sleigh underneath the caption. I was worried this box wouldn’t arrive before Christmas since my last couple of boxes arrived the last week of the month, but it did and I was able to wear this on Christmas day. Their monthly tees are my favorite part of this box.

Tribal Print Phone Case Wallet/Clutch – Listed Value $28.00

This vinyl phone case wallet/clutch has a white and black tribal print with a wristlet strap. There are three card slots, I.D. window, and a compartment behind the card slots to hold my money. The opposite side of the clutch is space to hold my phone with an elastic strap to hold it secure; it fits my iPhone 7. I have a phone case with the pop socket on the back of the case, and my phone didn’t fit in the compartment, I had to take the phone case off, and then it fit. I have accumulated a variety of purses, clutches, and totes from subscription boxes but this is a style that I have not received before, and I love it.

Here is an inside look at the phone case wallet/clutch and a side view of the pocket where I can store my money.

Pretty Pink Grapefruit Floral-Infused Body Oil, 1oz. – Retail Value $9.00 (currently sold out)

This floral infused bath and body oil’s ingredients include fractionated coconut oil, kukui nut seed oil, argan oil, dried flowers, and essential oils. I applied this to my body after I showered and this can be used to add moisture and shine to the ends of my hair or cuticles. The oil is lightly scented and smells of grapefruit. I found it strange to have pieces of dried flowers on my skin as I applied the oil to my body. It wasn’t a lot just a few pieces. I’m low on body lotion, so this came at the right time. I don’t use body oils often, and I found this body oil to be lightweight and have a pleasant scent.

Botanical Facial Steam-sample pack – Retail Value $6.00

This facial steam intends to open my pores, cleanse my skin, and reduce inflammation. The facial steam consists of dried flowers, thyme, sage, dandelion root, witch hazel leaf, comfrey leaf, and yarrow leaf. I placed the herbs and dried flowers in a large pot and poured hot water over it and draped a towel over my head and engulfed my face in the steam. I kept my face in the pot of steam for ten minutes. The facial steam opened up my pores and sinuses. I felt refreshed and recharged after steaming my face. I refrigerated the botanical water to use again or use as a toner or mix with a clay mask.

4-Piece Mixed-Stone & Druzy Bracelet Set – Listed Value $30.00

This beautiful set of bracelets doesn’t disappoint. The set consists of four mixed stoned bracelets. The bracelets can be worn alone or stacked. The stones are small, and each bracelet has an accent item that stands out, such as one bracelet has a druzy stone, another has two gold beads and crescent moon, the third bracelet has a jeweled stone, and the last bracelet is multi-colored with a slender gold bead in between the stones.  The neutral colors with the pop of gold and blue on the bracelets blend well together making a perfect set.

“Black Girl Magic” 2018 Wall Calendar – Listed Value $14.00

I love the start of the New Year, the chance to crack open a new planner and display a fresh calendar on my wall. This 2018 wall calendar titled, “Black Girl Magic” features beautiful illustrations of black women each month with a quote from a famous black woman in our history and one quote from a man, all inspiring and encouraging. The month of January has a quote from Ava Duvernay, “Black Girl Magic is a rallying call of recognition. Embedded in the everyday is a magnificence that is so easy to miss because we’re so mired in the struggle and what society says we are”.

Mixed-Stone Necklace – Listed Value $16.00

This 16-inch silver plated chain has a single row of opal colored stones. A staple piece for layering with other necklaces. This month was heavy on jewelry which I like, especially with the holidays coming, these pieces are perfect.

Instant Win Scratch Off

Enclosed in the December boxes, is instant win scratch-offs were there is a code revealed once you scratch off the area. I enter the code on their website to reveal my prize. The prizes include one year of Brown Sugar Box or several cash prizes. I won $5 off at Izzy & Liv.

Verdict: The Brown Sugar Box has a boxed value of $128.00, which is an incredible deal for a $44.90 box. I enjoyed the contents of this box, and I feel it was well curated. I’m always wearing bracelets and like to switch up the styles, so the set of 4 bracelets were well received. The necklace is dainty and perfect for layering with other necklaces, and the phone case wallet/clutch is something that I don’t own, and my iPhone 7 can fit. My collections of clutches and smaller purses don’t fit my current phone, so I was pleased that my phone fits inside this clutch. The box has items I would purchase on my own so it’s a win and I believe the box is appropriate for this season. It doesn’t have a theme throughout the box, but the pieces are useful and the jewelry pairs well. Brown Sugar boxes deliver on sending 5-6 full-size lifestyle, beauty, fashionable products, as well as their monthly tee. The value is over $85.00 a month, and on occasion, they send products from the black-owned business they love. I look forward to what they will offer in “2018.”
