Animal Jam Info Card

This month’s box is all about the phantoms, the only major antagonists in the Animal Jam universe.

They have a rather mythical origin story:

Mira, the Sky Mother, was sad that she had lost her companion Zios, the Sky Father. Her feelings of sadness and anger fell to the ground, mixed with the elements of Jamaa, and formed the dark and mysterious phantoms.

This feels a little Halloween-y to me, but we did receive this box in November.

Glow In The Dark Animal Jam Phantom Tee

Glow In The Dark Phantom T-Shirt

Our first item is this purple Phantom tee that also glows in the dark! (You’ll be able to choose your child’s size when you join this subscription, and each box so far has had a wearable item.)

Animal Jam Phantom Charm Animal Jam Phantom Charm

Phantom Charm

Each box also contains an Animal Jam themed charm, so kids can collect more as their subscription continues. The first box has a bracelet they can be attached to, but they also make cute zipper pulls!

This guy looks especially spidery here, doesn’t he?

Animal Jam Phantom Wristwatch

Phantom Eye Watch

This next item is fun; it’s a silicone digital watch with a phantom’s eye!

Animal Jam Phantom Watch, Detail

You press on the watch face to turn it on to check the time. It’s pretty basic and a little tricky to adjust the date/time, but it’s pretty cool overall as a watch for kids. When it’s turned off, it looks almost like a fitness tracker.

Animal Jam Phantom Wristwatch Strap

The wristband is super adjustable, too!

Animal Jam Phantom Beanie

Embroidered Phantom Knit Hat

Perfect for colder winter weather! This hat is pretty simple, with the Phantom eye motif embroidered ont eh front (the back is blank):

This fit on my toddler’s head, but it easily stretched to fit mine, too.

Animal Jam Phantom Plushie

Phantom Plush

Who doesn’t love a fun plushie? This embroidered eye matches the hat exactly, and he’s a small huggable size overall.

Animal Jam Phantom Notebook

Notebook & Pen Set

Our last item is a notebook and pen folio set!

I loved these kinds of things as a kid. They’re great for kids who love to draw, write and make lists, and I get a kick out of the fact that it looks a lot like my dad’s old school day planner.

The paper has an Animal Jam watermark, and the pen has a fun Phantom charm, too.

You also get an exclusive game code to unlock a secret in-game gift!

Verdict: For $31 a quarter ($25 + $6 shipping), the Fall Animal Jam box works out to about $5.16 an item. The Animal Jam Shop doesn’t carry any of these items since they’re exclusive to the box, but their store has some similar items: it’s about $7.99 for a plush and $9.99 for a notebook. The overall value of the box seems pretty on target to me.

Since Animal Jam the game contains a lot of educational material about various animals, I did expect more reading or activities like we had in past boxes. This box feels more about “stuff” than a learning experience for sure, especially so since the featured character isn’t a creature that has a real-life version.

Is this box still available? No, if you sign up today your first box will be the Winter 2017 box (ships mid-December).

What do you think of the Animal Jam Box? Do your kids play Animal Jam?
