Let’s see what they sent!
This kitchen gadget is meant to make slicing pineapple easy and less messy. There aren’t any metal parts to sharpen and it’s dishwasher safe. I hate slicing pineapple but love eating it (I don’t really like canned) so this will be quite handy.
Of course, there is a fidget spinner! Only the biggest weird craze of the summer. This one is a multicolor tie-dye look and I’m super surprised that it spins so smoothly. I successfully got it to spin on my dog’s head, so I think I’ve reachd my ultimate fidget spinner potential.
These gloves are a light blue-gray color, soft, and smooth to the touch. And, my touch screen works through the lighter areas on the thumb and pointer finger pads.I have fairly small hands and they fit well.
Multi-Use LED Light – Retail Value $8?
Ok, here is the first item that matches the teaser item list. This round light has 36 bright LED bulbs and a push-button power switch. You can turn on the inner row, outer row, or all of the bulbs by pushing the button multiple times. It takes 4 AA batteries to power it and the light output is pretty good. I think I’ll put this in my storage closet outside but only where it won’t get wet because there is no watertight seal on this thing.
I don’t really have a problem with blind spots in my car so I’ll be passing these along. I can imagine they might be helpful with a long truck bed or SUV.
Sterling Auto Auto Seat Organizer – Estimated Value $5.43
This auto seat organizer has one large see-through pouch and a couple of smaller mesh pouches. It has a buckle closure on the top and two sets of ties on the bottom to secure it to the back of your seat. This might be useful if you have passengers in your back seat often.
I’ll admit that these are the dud of the box. They look and feel cheap and don’t write smoothly. I’m kind of a writing utensil snob and will carry around one that I enjoy writing with to avoid pens like these. I’ll pass them on to my local school donation box because I know they always could use more pens.
This device is supposed to emit negative ions to help purify the air and help increase my energy and mood. That is a big promise for such a little device. It doesn’t make any noise which is good but I can’t imagine I’ll carry this around with me to plug in while working. It will make a great office white elephant gift though!
Geek Tek Selfie Stick – Retail Value $6?
So, I’m excited to see this well-made selfie stick in this box. While the value isn’t that high, it doesn’t feel cheap and has all the basics, a silicone grip, a shutter button, and easy connectivity to multiple types of phones. It feels like my phone will be safely held onto even when it is telescoped out to 42 inches.
Another LED item. This time it is in light switch form and has 6 LED bulbs that light up to a nice glow. Perfect for sticking into a dark closet or drawer. I’m not sure how easy it would be to unstick to change the batteries since the battery slots are on the back. But, it did come with batteries so I won’t worry about it until it dies.
The last item is a miniature snack tin from Marvel Comics. It came in its own box with a little activity book and a note from Nabisco thanking me for requesting this tin by sending in 2 proofs of purchase of Nabisco products. Looks like GearXS employees might eat a lot of crackers. But, it is cute and I have some little guys in my family who would be thrilled with this.
Verdict: Well, this is a completely random assortment of stuff. I would compare the quality of the items to what you would find at the dollar store. This box has a retail value of about $197 + free shipping ($54.87 with sale prices). I’d say that the list of past included items gave me much higher hopes than I should have had. Most of this will be added to gift bags or donated but I am using the LED lights in my home. It is a mystery box, so it was meant to be a gamble and I’m glad they put as many items as they did in here.
