Box of Happies October 2017 Envelope

Box of Happies is a monthly subscription box for handmade goods. It’s a great way to discover new Etsy artisans.

I kind of like these plastic cases. They are a good size for storing beads or other craft supplies (and goodness knows, I have enough of those…).

This box was sent to us at no cost for review purposes. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

The Subscription Box: Box of Happies

The Cost: $29.99/month for a single upcoming month of your choice (when I played with the shopping cart I was also charged tax but I think that’s because they’re in the same state I am) or $29.49 for a random box from a past month; save with longer subscriptions. You can also add a bar of soap or candle to your box for $6.49, or a piece of jewelry for $8.

COUPON: New subscribers, use code HAPPIES to receive a bonus handmade necklace in your first box!

Included was an information card listing the items in the box.

Box of Happies October 2017 Soap 1

Heffernan’s Little Craft Shop Pumpkin Soap Set – Listed Value $5

These were not in the Heffernan’s shop on Etsy but the value from the information card seems in line with the other items in the shop. These are really too cute to use. Each is a different fall- or Halloween-themed scent. These would be great decorations in a guest bathroom around this time of year and they also come individually wrapped for gift giving.

Here are the soaps unwrapped. So cute!

There was also a business card for the soap maker.

Box of Happies October 2017 Necklace

Box of Happies Necklace – Listed Value $12

This is a delicate silvertone necklace. You’ll get a lot of jewelry with this subscription but it is always packaged nicely for gifting if it is not to your taste. I happen to like delicate jewelry and I will wear any metal tone. This would be good alone or layered with some other pieces.

Box of Happies October 2017 Earrings

Box of Happies Stud Earrings – Listed Value $12

You’ll also get a lot of (pierced) earrings with this subscription. I have a nickel sensitivity and I’m not sure what the material is here but I find I can wear most earrings if I coat the posts before use with clear nail polish. Anyway, these earrings are bezel cups with some glitter and then a resin (I think) dome over the top. They are suitably sparkly but not too over-the-top.

Box of Happies October 2017 Polish

Leesha’s Lacquer Mini Nail Polish – Listed Value $4

This is a dark purple polish with micro-glitter and it is so great for this time of year. I couldn’t model it for you because I have an upcoming surgery and am not supposed to wear polish. The swatch doesn’t look great, but this is actually really pretty in real life and it is a color I will get a lot of use out of. This is 5-free and vegan polish and there are lots of great colors in the Leesha’s Lacquer Etsy shop (linked to in the item name).

Verdict: I calculated a value of $33 for the October 2017 Box of Happies. That’s a little above the cost of the box on a month-to-month basis. The jewelry was nice and delicate this month (which is my preference) and I think the soaps are too cute and the polish color is great, too. It’s always fun to discover some new Etsy artisans (sometimes Etsy is overwhelming to search) and sample some of their wares without paying for shipping on a whole bunch of individual orders. This was a good month for me!

What did you think of the October Box of Happies? Do you get any artisan or handmade subscriptions?
