My F*cking Awesome Bucket List Book - Value $12.86

I'm a fan of guided notebooks, and this one brings the popular "bucket list" idea into it. Instead of writing your own, this notebook gives you all sorts of prompts to write lists and help you live a (perhaps) more exciting life. Some of them are silly, and some a bit more serious, but they all seem to have the end game of learning more about yourself or pushing you outside your comfort zone. I tend to get into ruts more often than not lately, so the positive vibes coming from this book, although seemingly hokey, can help snap me out of it.

Take A Hike Candle, 2 oz. - Value $6 (Buy a 4 oz. candle for $12)

Girrrrrrl, I never thought I'd be a person who loves candles, but I think it's embedded in my DNA. Something happened a handful of years ago and all I want is to spend hours sniffing scents for different seasons. OKCollective has all sorts of fun scents with great packaging, and I received their "Take A Hike" scent. Although most of the items in this month's box feels summery to me, this candle stands apart with its Autumn fragrance that includes sandalwood, cedar, clove, and orange blossom. This small 2 oz. version is a great little sample to put in a smaller room.

This Trip is Bananas Luggage Tag - Value $5

In the age of budget airlines, I rarely check bags anymore, but that doesn't stop me from admiring this fun minty luggage tag covered in yellow bananas. It's made of flexible plastic that has space for you to write your contact information on the back (complete with a pun) and is attached to a gummy white loop for you to dangle from your suitcase.

Work Less, Travel More Sunglasses - Listed Value $7

I can totally back the message of these lime green wayfarer style sunnies, even though I've my fill of sunglasses for the year. Travelling is one of my favorite things to do, but the closer to snowy winter we get, the fewer road trips I'll go on due to road conditions. These will come in handy riding in my center car console in the meantime though.

Hello Sunshine Pen - $3.20 (Buy a set of 5 for $16)

This bright yellow pen greets you with a "hello sunshine" as you click it to start jotting down notes, sonnets, or whatever things you need to get out of your head and onto paper. This is a standard ballpoint pen with a plastic body so it's not necessarily something to write home about, but will bring a pop of color to your office.

Beach Please Water Bottle - Listed Value $10

This teal blue aluminum bottle is quite large, so it would make a good travel companion, but I can't quite get the sport cap to actually close tightly so I'm not sure this one will leave the office and make it to the beach.

Tropic Like It's Hot Notebook - Listed Value $5

Another subscription box, another notebook. Here's an item that seems like a basic fill that is giving me more of a summer vibe than fall. Though I suppose the colder months are when people tend to take tropical vacations, this lined notebook will probably sit in a drawer until it gets warm again here.

Verdict: Smartass and Sass didn't excite me much this month. A lot of the contents seemed like common promotional items that they slapped a quote on, and overall were giving me a summer vibe even though it's nearing Fall. I really liked the candle which had a more seasonal scent and will definitely get burned in my house. In the end, I paid $41.90 to get a retail total of $49.06, so it's a decent value, I just wished for more DIY-feeling items (like the candle).

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? It looks like subscriptions restart on the 1st, so you would get the October box if you signed up now.

  • Candle: $5.12
  • Luggage Tag: $4.27

I do like that bucket list journal

This feels more like a $25 box. Those sunglasses look like the ones that college campuses hand out when they go to high schools to recruits. I don’t think anyone needs any more pens, notebooks or water bottles.

Candles can be lovely but be careful of breathing in smoke from petroleum based candles. Any made from paraffin contain petroleum and burn toxic fumes, similar to breathing in exhaust from a car. Choose soy or beeswax candles.

Every month I read this review and think….still overpriced for what you get. Hopefully they will fix that sometime.
