POPSUGAR Must Have Box October 2017 Review + Coupon

This post may contain referral/affiliate links. If you buy something, MSA may earn a commission. Read the full disclosure.

POPSUGAR Must Have is a monthly lifestyle subscription box for women. Each month they send a mix of items from categories like beauty, fashion, food, fitness, and home.

Super exciting news – this box is big and it is jam packed full of items!

This box was sent to us for review purposes. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

The Subscription Box: POPSUGAR Must Have

The Cost: 39.95 a month

COUPON: Use coupon code MUSTHAVE5 to save $5 off your first box.

The Products: “Must Have” items for women selected by POPSUGAR editors. (Fitness, Home, Beauty, Food, and more)

Check out all of my POPSUGAR Must Have reviews and the Women’s Subscription Box Directory!

Each box comes with a fold out card detailing the items included, and what themes inspired the box.

The themes this month are de-stress, cozy, bedtime. (AKA: my favorite words.)

So many items in this month’s box that the fold out card needed an extra section!

Now, on to the items!

Jack + Lucy Pillow and Blanket Set – Value $49.99

How cute is this travel set? I love the black and white stripe – so chic!

The pillow has a hidden zipper with a removable insert:

This pillow is firm and would be great as a lumbar support pillow even when you aren’t traveling.

Cute in an office, too, right?

The material is a 100% soft acrylic knit.

It measures about 31 by 46 inches long.

The instructions say only to spot clean with a damp cloth (no machine wash or dry clean), but I’ve had luck washing acrylic knit before, so I might through this in the laundry if it ever needs it.

UPDATE: Here is another picture to help show scale:

Perpetual Shade Dream On Sleep Mask – Value $39

If you’re wondering how a sleep mask can cost $39, I’ve been using Perpetual Shade sleep masks every night for years now, and can tell you that they are worth every penny to me!

This sleep mask definitely feels luxe. The fit is comfortable, the band is wide and stays put, the 100% cotton fabric is soft and breathes, and it is oversized to help block out any light. I’m a super light sleeper who needs total darkness, a sound machine going, etc, and I need a quality sleep mask, too, and I’m very impressed with this mask.

I know this product may not be for everyone, but if you’re someone who needs a sleep mask I think you will love this. And maybe if you’ve only sampled cheap sleep masks before, this could be a game changer! (And at the very least, it will be helpful for travel.)

If you are a super light sleeper like me, please comment with any sleep tips/hacks – I need all the help I can get!

FlashPatch Restoring Night Eye Gels 5-Pack – Value $20

At first when I saw these I thought I’d have to wear them overnight but fortunately, that is not the case! You just need to wear them 5 minutes before bed, let the excess serum absorb once you remove them, and you are good to go!

I love a nice relaxing bedtime routine, and these were a perfect addition. They left my skin feeling hydrated and I had no issues of the eye gels slipping off like I have had with some other brands.

Lollia Dream White Tea & Honeysuckle Shower Gel – Value $22

First, this packaging! I love the metallic gold detail! Sadly, this scent just wasn’t for me. I liked the formula – the body wash lathers nicely and doesn’t dry out skin, but the Honeysuckle scent was a little too powdery for me.

And this item came with a coupon for $10 off your next order of $50 or more:

Nature’s Bakery Double Chocolate Brownie – Value $1.49

If you are vegan and have been waiting for a POPSUGAR snack/sweet you can enjoy, this is your brownie!

The brownie is chewy, decadent, but not too sweet. Pretty much perfect.

Framebridge Promo Card – $30 Discount

Framebridge is a custom online frame shop. You upload the picture of your choice, pick the frame, preview it, then you’re good to go!

Great news – custom framing starts at $39, so you can get the photo of your choice framed for only $9. But how do you choose….

Now, time for special extras:

Keurig The Original Donut Shop Coffee K-Cup Pods 6 Pack – Value $6

K-Cups as a bonus item? Yes to that! All day every day! Eric and I aren’t too particular about our K-Cup brand (we usually do Starbucks, Trader Joes, or Whole Foods), but the Donut Shop is a solid contender, too.

And these K-Cups come with a pretty incredible coupon offer, too:

Normally, I don’t get too excited about included coupons, but 50% off any Keurig of your choice?! We have a Keurig at home and at our office, but I have a feeling we’ll either use this to upgrade one of our older versions, get an extra for the bedroom, or as a gift for the holidays.

Each box comes with a unique one time use coupon. Expires 12/31/2017.

Quaker Overnight Oats in Toasted Coconut & Almond Crunch – Value $1.60

I didn’t know Quaker made overnight oats! You just add your preferred milk, put the lid back on, then store in the fridge the night before breakfast.

And there’s no dairy in the ingredients so you can make this dairy free!

I’m gluten-free and don’t eat oats, but I can tell you the toasted coconut smells amazing!

Aquaphor Advanced Therapy Ointment Body Spray – .86 oz Value $2.30

I’ve used the Aquaphor ointment before, so I was excited to give this a try – it’s pretty amazing. Imagine getting a super fine mist version of the ointment that you don’t have to rub in – that’s how I would describe it.

Verdict: I can’t believe how many items are in this box! I love the cozy/sleep theme, too – everything is perfect for me with the exception of the body wash. (And that’s just a scent preference.)

And this box has a value of $142.50! (That’s not counting the value of any of the coupons included, and I personally will be using both the Framebridge and the Keurig coupons, so that adds even more value for me.)

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? As of today, 10/7, yes! When you click “Subscribe Now” on the POPSUGAR site, the box your subscription will start with will be highlighted.

Coupon – Use coupon code MUSTHAVE5 to save $5

Value Breakdown: At $39.95 for this box, here’s what you are paying approximately per item:

  • Pillow + Blanket: $14.02
  • Sleep Mask: $10.93
  • Eye Gels: $5.61
  • Shower Gel: $5.60
  • Framebridge: Not Counted toward value
  • Brownie: $.42
  • K-Cups: $1.68
  • Quaker Oats: $.42
  • Aquaphor: $1.27

  1. Such a fun box this month! I am a little confused by the blanket size. 2.5×4 feet is like… a baby blanket. Is it meant just for your lap?

    • I think the blanket is perfect for sitting in the stands watching my son play football. I am going to love this box!

      • Yeah, sounds good to keep in the car for those occasions

    • That size is super tiny. Not big enough for stadium nights – BUT great for traveling on domestic flights where you don’t have a lot of room to move anyway. I wonder why this wasn’t marketed as a travel box. Almost everything is perfect for the frequent flier! I can see myself using almost everything!

      • Good question. I was expecting a FULL size throw, but I can live with a travel blankie.

  2. I love this box. And I love reading the comments. Except I don’t appreciate a conservation lecture. Whether I use a Keurig or not, it comes across as a holier-than-thou rant.

    • I didn’t mean to come across as holier than thou, but how do people find out what a huge problem things like this are is no one ever says anything about it? It is a legitimate environmental issue that a lot of people aren’t aware of. Would you rather just live your life and never be aware of it?

      • Totally agree – this is a legit issue. Thanks for the reminder.

        • I agree. Yeah, it’s a buzzkill, & it’s neither fun nor sexy.

But it’s TRUTH. Sometimes we need the reminder.

          Thank you, RD.

          • Yeah, I didn’t think you were “ranting” or coming across as Holier than Thou. Thank you for sharing.

      • You are spot on. This is an important issue. If others can get on here and complain about how awful they think the contents of a box are then why shouldn’t you be able to bring up a legitimate concern without someone calling you holier than thou? Wow, if she didn’t like the comment she always had the option to scroll past it. Please continue to bring these issues up-people need to hear them.

      • Meh. This is why I love my Nespresso. I get great coffee and free recycling.

  3. I think this is a great box, but I really hope that you will reconsider your use of the Keurig. K cups are so incredibly bad for the environment. They are difficult to impossible to recycle, and literally billions end up in the land fills every year. A bit of convenience is not worth that damage! /sanctimony

    • There are reusable cups. Or, in the alternative, Nespresso machines have capsułes which are recyclable.

      • Yes, there are. But these ones in the box aren’t. And to recycle Nespresso cups, you have to dump the grounds, peel off the paper, and separate the metal from each cup before you can recycle them, and that’s if your plant can even process them. If they are too small to be used on a recycle center’s sorting machine, they still go to the dump. Hence the billions in the landfills. I wish they’d sent a reusable cup!

        • Hi Raindrop- really appreciate you talking about this (no sarcasm). Just wanted you to know that all the Nespresso boutiques here give you an envelope to collect your capsules. I have been told that once you return them to the boutique they get recycled by them into new capsules.

          • I save all my Kuerig used pods. After the cider, I peel the lid, dump the grounds, rinse the pod- turning the filter inside out then fill will succulent dial and add a succulent clipping. I have more succulents than you can imagine because of this. After transferring to cute pots from dollar tree they make adorable little presents. All thanks to a used Keurig pod. “Raindrop” needs a little imagination.

          • @NoBoxThink – wait, you reuse ALL your k-cups? Do you live alone and only drink coffee occasionally? Because with just 1 cup of coffee a day, my husband and I will have 730 k-cups a year. That’s a lot of succulents. I would be buried alive with succulents using your method. We’ve switched to the Nespresso and not regretting it one bit.

        • Not true, you can recycle in bag from nespresso, drop at ups and you’re good to go

      • I was looking as Nespresso and their website is horrible for comparisons. Do you know the difference between the original and vertuo capsules/devices. It also doesn’t look like either models can make a carafe?

    • Another thing….they really don’t make great coffee. It is IMO worse tasting than drip coffee, Don’t be fooled by those flavors they add, it masks the mediocre coffee you are at least 40/50 cents a cup for & you drink multiple cups of coffee a day, it is really expensive in the longrun if you drink a lo of coffee.

      • Yep, the coffee is disgusting imo, I’d much rather french press a cup or make a cup in a traditional coffee maker. For people looking for an alternative, there ARE compostable K-cups, I’ve bought them before on Amazon and they aren’t more expensive than the traditional K-cups which are an environmental disaster and make up a huge part of the oceans floating plastic garbage islands. They’re toxic to the sea-life too. I know some recycling plants can/will not recycle anything less than 3 inches in diameter so even the recyclable ones end up in landfills. Just food for thought, and an absolute truth about these.

    • Thank you for saying what I was thinking. This is one environmental disaster we all have an easy choice to make about. There are too many other great ways to make coffee that are less harmful, and the convenience just can’t be worth the detriment when you stop to really think about it. Unless you are sure you will never have children of your own, and you don’t care about the future of other people’s generations.

    • I have a Keurig Vue which uses specific cups that are recyclable. I think it was a prototype for the Keurig 2.0. If you want the ease of a Keurig that is environmentally safe, look into this model. Bed bath n beyond has the cups. There Are choices. We all have them. They might just not b the same as yours. Peace.

  4. This is the first popsugar box I have actually have wanted. I have had to cut out alot of my subs they have gotten really out of hand. But we are going to Ireland in May and I really need to save some money , so I can buy some stuff there.i just need to remain focused and no more subs for me for now.

  5. Finally a great box! This is Popsugar at its best. Hmmm…Coincidence that this is one of the last boxes before Black Friday? (I also noticed there was a really great box when most people’s 6-month subs purchased on Black Friday were about to run out.) So proceed with care!

As for sleep – I’ve tried just about everything. I have severe restless legs syndrome (RLS) plus other issues so my sleep at times has been a disaster.

If your legs feel twitchy or “creepy” or you just feel the need to move them at night, see a neurologist about possible RLS. There are drugs that can help!!

Likewise, if you wake up often in night, especially feeling a little breathless, see a doc about possible sleep apnea. Loud snoring can also be a sign of sleep apnea.

Have good “sleep hygiene” – meaning…
-go to bed and wake at same time each night/morning, even on weekends if possible
    – No caffiene after 2 pm. (Caffiene is in coffee, tea, colas, and chocolate!)
-block light and sound from bedroom as best as possible.
    – use white noise or natural sounds generator (many apps available for phones)
    – try to have your bedroom room cooler at night. A drop in body temp is needed for good sleep
    – have a set routine you use each night when preparing for bed (e.g. Wash face, brush teeth, put on lotion, etc). This helps reinforce signals to the body that it is time to sleep.
    – use bed for sleep and sex only. If you can’t sleep, get out of bed and do low level activities (non stimulating) until you feel sleepy. Then return to bed and try sleeping.
-Avoid using electronics (computer, iPad, etc) for 1 hr before bed
    – try to minimize light in your home about an hour before bed
-don’t exercise or have a big meal within 2 hr of bedtime. Likewise do not read, listen to, or watch disturbing stories (or news) too close to bedtime.
-If you wake in middle of night, minimize any lighting you use. (Light very quickly destroys the body’s melatonin, which is required for sleep.
    – Drinking alcohol can also interfere with sleep. Although you might get to sleep more quickly, as the alcohol wears off the body often experiences a “rebound” effect that is stimulating and will wake you.
    – if you currently take medicines, ask your pharmacist or physician if any of them would interfere with sleep. If so, you might be able to alter (with their permission) the time at which you take a med so that it does not interfere w sleep.
-If you have a partner that snores, try using earplugs.

Other strategies for improving sleep include taking supplements such as the following. Always check with your doctor first!!
-melatonin (some people find very useful, others don’t)
-valerian (an herb with medicinal qualities)

Foods that promote sleep. (You may need to consume on a regular basis for them to be effective.)
    – Kiwis – see

    – Tart cherries (or juice from them), see

-Electro-accupuncture (aka TENS) units also can be used (with the appropriate settings) to treat insomnia.

If sleep still eludes you, consult a physician to possibly have a sleep study done. They will monitor different variables while you sleep and the results could be very enlightening In terms of understanding and treating your sleep issues. Good luck!!

    • I tried. I really tried to ignore this post, but when you post references from webmd and a study of n=20…….I can’t. I just can’t. Do I agree that healthy sleep habits are the number 1 way to help organize better sleep cycles, yes. However, if you think that posting a message that encourages someone to see a neurologist for sleeping medication for RLS, then you are VERY misinformed. First, if you have problems sleeping, trying the above listed non-medical ways are very appropriate. Next, visit your PCP if those things don’t help. Perhaps you have issues with potassium or magnesium imbalances that would account for the ‘crawly’ feelings in your legs. Or you may have some problems with your B12 or folic acid. Especially if you have fatigue that is adjunct to these symptoms. Also, have your MTHFR checked. That is a blood drawn to check for the inability to properly process folic acid. It leads to depression and fatigue. You should also have your thyroid checked. The next thing your PCP would order is a sleep study. If you do, indeed, need a CPAP at night for sleep apnea, it would be ordered by someone else who can get it approved by insurance (most likely). Not to mention you should then have an EKG done because sleep apnea predisposes you to Cor Pulmonale (which leads to/is right sided heart failure). But what do I know. I am just a FNP. P.S.— Don’t use webmd. Ever.

      • LOL How. Can you not love WebMD. 😜

      • Bingo. I’m also have a Master’s in Nursing. These types of posts make me roll my eyes. Ridic.

        • I thought I was the only one that rolled my eyes and said, “yup, here we go…. Masters on The sS Cycle!” Being an insomniac for almost my whole life makes me lmao at this stuff. Yawn! I’ll try the sleep mask, looks fun.

  6. While this is a pretty good box, I am going to pass. I am getting excited about what will come out during the holiday season and I need to exhibit some self control.

I think those of you who get the box will love the eye gel patches!

  7. This is an AWESOME box! Very pleased and can’t wait to get mine! Great job PS!

  8. Crossing my fingers that they overstocked the pillow and blanket combo! I would be over the moon to see that in the next mystery box!

  9. Told my hubby this was his gift for me for my birthday after I purchased it 😉😅😊

    • Ha! I’ve done that before too!

  10. I think I might be the only one who is going to remain underwhelmed. Sleep mask, eye masks and frame will be the only things I think I will like when my box arrives. I just don’t like the pillow and blanket…reminds me of prison garb stripes from old movies. It’s not a pattern or color that’s ‘cozy’ or restful …actually the opposite. I’ve stopped drinking coffee, I’m sensitive to fragrance, the aquaphor is petroleum based. They’ll probably make great gifts though.

But the one thing I enjoy about this site are readers comments. I’ve already picked up two new ideas for better sleep . The Touchpoints mentioned by Helen intrigues me the most as I’ve had chronic sleep problems for quite a while. So, thanks Liz for setting up such a great, friendly website!

    • Look at it this way: even if you only like the sleep mask, eye gels and frame, that’s still an $89 value! Assuming you paid full price at $40, you’re still getting more than twice your moneys’ worth and the other things save you money in gifts you’d normally have to shell out for. If you’re like me and got this on a Black Friday deal, it’s even better, because you only have $20-25 invested in this box, their’s really no reason to be underwhelmed! 😊

    • I would love to swap for the blanket and pillow set if you are interested.interested interested

      • Putting mine up for swap now. They’re packed up and ready to go!

    • I agree with you!! This is probably my least favorite PS box ever, but what I like about PS is the variety and surprise, which inherently can’t please everyone all the time!

      • Let me know if you would be interested in swapping Jenn

    • I would be interested in your Keurig coupon, wanted another for a gift for my mom who’s an avid coffee drinker.

      • Chichi,

I couldn’t care less about keurig so here’s my code:

    • This was a complete dud for me.
Rarely ever happens so its not a big deal. Now, I’ll wait patiently for my NM Popsugar box. Hope I chose wisely with gold. Do I need silver, too?!

  11. I had virtually no ability to resist this box. I stopped my sub after the Black Friday deal ran out in August, but this was definitely worth coming back for 😊

  12. My initial underwhelm is completely overwhelmed with delight!

  13. This is my all time favorite Popsugar box since I started subscribing back in June. Absolutely love everything in here! This is a major win. And that pillow and blanket are just amazing! Now, if my box would only get here faster…

  14. Just re-subbed! I couldn’t pass this box up!

  15. What a great box! Love the items, love the extras (which definitely add value for me), and I’m impressed that the items seem cohesive and really fit the themes.

  16. Darn you PSMH. The blanket and pillow sold me. My favorite color and pattern. Love the box. Plus I’m in the market for a new Keriug

  17. For sleep – I highly recommend taking 400 mg of magnesium citrate before bed. It’s helped me to sleep so much better. There’s a powder you can dissolve which works better, but tastes terrible. I just take the pills now.

    • Make sure to contact your physician before using magnesium citrate.

It can cause abdominal distress, interact with certain prescribed medications, and is not to be used if you have health issues such as ulcerative colitis, heart disease, and other conditions.

Never use supplements recommended on the internet without consulting your doctor. What works for one person could be dangerous for another.

      • What supplements?? What are you talking about??!!!

    • It really is wonderful and helps with so many ailments!

    • That is what you drink to prep for a colonoscopy. Even in small amounts it is laxative.

  18. I’m new to Popsugar. Is it possible to wait till 31, October and still get this box then? I’m trying to stretch out my budget. 🙂

    • It just depends on whether or not they have boxes left.

    • Popular Popsugar boxes sometimes sell out before the end of the month. If they are still in stock, they’ll still sell October boxes through the 31st. But when they’re gone, they’re gone.

      • Thank you all! I need to think about it 🤔

        • A lot of recent items have come back in mystery boxes or as boutique items for 75%. So you might be able to get the items you really want later.

    • This is one of their boxes that I’m fairly certain will sell out early.

  19. I had totally given up on PS, except for the LE boxes, until this one! I just subbed again for 3 months. Hoping that the end of year boxes will be just as good! I’ll never get a PS mystery box again, though.

  20. I have never subscribed to popsugar , I have always got the mystery boxes and flash sales . But this box made me want to subscribe but on the site it says if the earlier month becomes available they will send us that one . Is there really a chance they’ll send September ? Does anyone know ?

    • I signed up at the end of September and my first box will be the October box. It’s already shipped !!

  21. Awesome review!! This will be my first popsugar box and I’m so excited!
I love the chair that you have the blanket and pillow displayed on- do you happen to know where it is from? It would be perfect in my office! Thanks!!

    • Thanks, Dory! The chair is from All Modern ($92 for a set of 2). Here is a direct link: http://bit.ly/2z63F6l

      Hope that helps! 🙂

      • Thank you so much! 🙂

  22. Hey Liz. Can you tell me the cost of a k15 machine after the coupon is entered? I don’t have mine yet, and online the k15 is on sale. I’m wondering what the coupon will bring the price to.

    • Just tested it. The coupon is for 50% off the regular list price, so it brought the cost down to $49.99 with free shipping. Hope that helps!

      • Fantastic. Thank you so much!

  23. Super-light sleeper here, I wake up if a sparrow coughs, and I have the best tip ever for insomniacs …
Touchpoints from Indiegogo. They’re small neuro feedback technology gadgets worn on each wrist for a few minutes each evening. I’ve gone from 4-5 hours broken sleep to 7-8 hours dead-to-the-world sleep since using these.
    Nothing short of a miracle!

  24. Sweet! I love everything in the October box!

  25. This box is awesome! Here’s also to hoping the Black Friday deal is as good as last year’s.

  26. Woo hoo!! Bought an extra!

  27. Oh, my. This is the best PSMH box ever! I love this, and may have to buy another.

  28. A total win!

  29. Impressive box. Way to go PS.
Still won’t be ordering, as I am saving $$$ with no subs right now.

  30. FAVE BOX from PopSugar ever! I can’t wait to get this!!!

    • Clever to break down our costs to show what a great buy it is. Thanks!

  31. I was a little bummed at the sleep mask with the spoiler the other day but who cares as the rest of the box is incredible. Has there ever been a throw in a regular monthly box? Love the throw/pillow combo. I like the drink/snacks this month. Don’t even miss a cosmetic item. I have never been disappointed with PS.

  32. Their back…. Ohhh dear god I hope they end up having the best Black Friday EVER because I’m gonna get the year instead of 6 months.. Good job Popsugar

  33. Drat! Why couldn’t Pop Swan offer us THIS box as a replacement?!??

October is good month for them.

  34. Omg… the pillow blanket and lollia shower gel is enough for me. Everything else is a perk!!!

  35. First of all, WOW! Great box!

And Liz, being a light sleeper myself and an AIrbnb host, we use (and provide our guests) the Dohm all natural sound machine. Our guest (and us) swear by it. We’ve had multiple guests purchase the machine after their stay. For the light sleepers, it’s a game changer.

    • I just Googled the Dohm machine and now I’m gonna go buy one. This site is dangerous for my bank account LOL!

      • You can’t put a price on a good night’s sleep! 😉

But seriously, I kid you not. Game changer.

  36. Love this!

I think this is the first box I’ve ever received before the review went up; it was kind of fun being mostly spoiler-free!

    • I’m jealous! Mine never seem to ship before the 15th of the month.

  37. Awesome box!! That pillow and blanket set is so, so cute!! I’m going to take the pillow to work and use it for exactly what you said – lumbar support!! Well, pending my back likes it. If not, I’ll just use it at home while I’m kicking demon butt on my Xbox One – either way I win lol.

I’m excited to try the sleep mask. I’ve only used cheap ones before and, while they’ve sucked, they did give me a small taste of what blocking out light can do for my sleep. Plus, I have a new mattress set on the way – good sleep, here I come!!!

Oh yeah, I also have to say that I’m SUPER excited about the Keurig coupon!! That is such a great deal! I’ve coveted them for a long time now. If the coupon doesn’t expire before then, I’m going to be one happy lady come either Black Friday or Cyber Monday!! 🙂

  38. Oh if I had money… Good box!

  39. Really great box! I forgot to cancel last month & am paying full price. Last month I thought far too much for what they sent but this month it’s a great deal!

  40. Wow! This looks amazing! And our old Keurig just died. Perfect timing. I’m so excited for this!

  41. What a fantastic box! Can’t wait to receive mine!

  42. LOVE this!

  43. Wow, this might be one of the best boxes I have ever received 🙂 Bravo!

    • Yay! So glad you like it, too! 🙂

  44. Oh wow. If anyone won’t be using the keurig coupon, please feel free to give it to me. I’ve been thinking about getting one!

    • You can have mine, I just bought a new one this summer 🙂 email me at [email protected] and when it comes I’ll send your way.

  45. I love all the items. And I’m definitely going to use that framing coupon. For $39, the frame is pretty small, but free shipping and only paying $9 is a great deal.

    • Agree! And perfect timing for holiday gifting, too!

  46. The twitter link brings you to the September review.

    • Oops! Thank you for the heads up! I’ll fix that now.

  47. I’d go for it but I don’t want Sept. box. I wonder if I can order as a gift?? And know for sure I would get Oct. Anyone know?

    • I just ordered and it said my first box was October.

This is the box that pushed me to finally subscribe….

  48. I like this box…..
