Brooklyn Candle Studio Tobacco Travel Candle — Value $14
This soy wax candle is my everything right now! I'm a full-blown fan of muskier scents—perhaps scents traditionally thought of as being geared toward men—and this one is exactly that. It features "top notes of leather, musk, amber, and tobacco meet middle notes of black tea and base notes of patchouli and sandalwood. Also infused with cedarwood and patchouli essential oils." It's so, so wonderful. It's burn time is also approximately 30 hours, which is longer than I would expect from a small candle. I usually only let my candles burn for a half hour or 45 minutes at a time, so this should last me awhile. Yay!
I've been increasingly more diligent about purchasing and surrounding myself with products that are eco-conscious, local, and natural. This candle fits the bill perfectly; here's a useful tidbit from the Brooklyn Candle Studio website:
Made in Brooklyn, New York with 100% soy derived from American-grown soy beans for an eco-friendly, clean burn. Uses a lead-free cotton wick primed with vegetable based wax and premium grade fragrance oil. No added dyes or chemicals.
It's marketed as a travel candle, and I can't say I've ever brought a candle with me on any of my travels, but it's a nice idea. Hotel rooms would feel all the more homey and cozy with a familiar scent filling the space. For now, though, I have it sitting on a plant-filled table with some of my favorite critter-themed decor items. I've been lighting it when I get home from work, which is such a nice way to relax and unwind.
Luxo Banho Sandalwood Soap — Value $7
Here's another wonderfully natural product! This sandalwood-scented bar soap is cruelty-free, which is a must for me when I'm purchasing skincare and beauty products.
The scent of this soap is light and fresh. I always keep a bar of high-quality, natural soap in my shower, and I have a lot of fun rotating through various scents and supporting different small businesses.
Tiny Kitchen Soap Company Spiced Chai Linen & Room Spray — Value $9.99
This air freshener/linen spray is another cruelty-free home good. Score! Just reading the "Spiced Chai" scent indicated on the label made me feel warm and cozy—could there be a more perfect aroma for fall and winter? When I spritzed it in the air, though, I found the scent to be a little strong. Scents have such powerful memory recall attached to them, and my mind immediately went to the experience of walking through the lobby of the grocery store to be greeted by crates of cinnamon-scented pine cones. I've always found that entrance to be a total sensory overload, but I'm sure most people like it, or else they wouldn't place 'em there! I plan on gifting this spray to a family member (it'll make a great stocking stuffer in a couple of months!) as I know someone'll put it to good use as a bathroom air freshener or something of the sort.
The back of this room spray's label checks off all the boxes. It's handmade in small batches, and the batch number is handwritten at the bottom. Meanwhile, its ingredients are all simple and pronounceable. Even though I'm not huge on the scent, I'm still so excited about these details!
Savannah Bee Tupelo Honey Liquid Hand Soap — Value $10.99
I'm all about this hand soap. Its label is pleasing to the eye and looks lovely by my sink. Its ingredients include real honey and aloe vera—cool! I guess my initial thought was that having honey in your soap would just leave your hands sticky, but then I quickly remembered honey is water soluble. Plus, after washing my hands with it, that worry was soothed; it's not sticky at all and left my hands feeling nice 'n' soft. The scent is light and sweet and accurately honey-ish.
Here we go again with the good stuff! This soap is free of petroleum products and parabens, and is not on animals. It's made in Georgia. I noticed on Savannah Bee's website that this soap can be used as a body and/or face wash in addition to a hand soap. Into it. I'm a big, big, big believer in honeybees and I'm convinced that their well-being directly represents the well-being and fate of humankind. I even have a honeybee tattooed on my arm! So, needless to say, I'm overjoyed to see that Savannah Bee is a parent and supporter of The Bee Cause Project, a program through which bee hives are installed and observed in high schools (among other awesome things). Kudos to this awesome company.
Verdict: I give Nosejoy's October box a standing ovation. I'm thrilled that all of this month's offerings have gender-neutral scents, natural ingredients, and that all applicable products are cruelty-free. This box costs $34.95 (with free shipping), and the individual contents add up to about $42. To echo the sentiment I shared last month, this seems like much less than I'd pay if I were to go buy all these items a la carte in a boutique. Plus, each product is extremely high quality, and the thoughtful way they were crafted and labeled makes for a wonderfully curated and specialized experience. Bravo!
