The Vegan Cuts Beauty Box is a monthly beauty and makeup subscription box. All of their products are vegan (and they tend to be natural, too). They also typically include a nice mix of full-size and sample beauty items. Vegan Cuts also offers a monthly Snack Box and quarterly Makeup Box.

Everyday Botanicals Natural and Curly Hair Nourishment Oil (1 oz) – Value $4.49 (buy 4 fl oz for $17.95)

I don’t think I have the right hair texture to use this oil as intended. (The website says to dispense 3 or 4 pumps into my hands, which would leave my hair very greasy but I can see how it might work for someone with a totally different hair texture. Also, my hair is not curly.) But, the ingredients are olive oil and a lot of things I recognize from sheet masks (meadowfoam, baobab, lavender, rosemary, etc.), so I took one pump and distributed it over the bottom six inches or so of my hair to try to add a bit of moisture and frizz control. I am not sure it did much for me, but I’m going to try using it a few different ways before I give up on it. This does have a fairly strong scent.

Gaffer and Child Facial Cleanser (2 fl oz) – Value $26

I do not like the landing page on this company’s website. The slide-changing animation makes my head swim. I didn’t have time to actually look at the page and choose something before a huge popup came up asking me to join the mailing list. I bring this up because if the point of a subscription box is to help me discover new brands, and the brands’ websites drive me away, well, that’s not a very good strategy. Anyway, this is kind of a thin cleanser that doesn’t lather at all. I guess it is OK for the morning but I don’t think it would actually take makeup off. It does have willow back extract so watch out if you are sensitive to salicylic acid. This one also has a strong odor from essential oils.

Derma E Purifying Daily Detox Scrub (0.5 oz) – Value $1.94 (buy 4 oz for $15.50)

Scrubs are my favorite products to get in beauty boxes. This one has apricot seed powder for exfoliation as well as charcoal powder (charcoal can help clear out the pores). It also has green tea leaf extract, which has lots of antioxidants (something I love in skincare). The exfoliating particles are not as concentrated as is my preference, but I tend to prefer really harsh, physical exfoliators. Still, this was one of my favorite products from the box.

Hempz Triple Moisture Herbal Whipped Body Crème (2.25 fl oz) – Value $3.71 (buy 17 fl oz for $28)

If you ever get any Ulta GWPs, you will undoubtedly be familiar with this product. It is a decent body lotion, if nothing too new or exciting. I have some really bad chafing on my inner thighs from exercise and I found this pretty soothing and non-irritating on my already-irritated skin. Plus it is actually enough product for multiple uses.

Terre Mere Cosmetics Mineral Blush in Lychee (2.5 g) – Value $15 (buy 9 g for $54)

This is a loose blush so I dispensed some into the lid and then ran my brush through it. I had to do quite a lot of tapping to get product off afterwards; it is easy to pick up too much (and I am pale, so I definitely don’t want too much). I should probably try a different brush. (I just grabbed the first clean one…) Anyway, this is actually a good color for me, and it’s buildable if you have darker skin than I do, plus it blended very nicely over my finishing powder.

Here is a swatch of the blush. That is kind of a lot of product; you can tone it down if you want a more subtle color.

Verdict: I calculated a value of $51.14 for this month’s Vegan Cuts Beauty Box. That’s not the highest value box I’ve ever gotten from them, but it is comfortably above the month-to-month cost of the subscription. I thought the collection of brands was excellent, ranging from some more familiar ones (Derma E, Hempz) to some that were new to me (Gaffer and Child, Everyday Botanicals). I also thought the distribution of items among makeup, skincare, hair care, and bath/body was pretty good. I was a little disappointed to receive two products strongly scented with essential oils. While these particular products did not cause any adverse reactions for me, I tend to avoid concentrated essential oils in personal care products due to some rashes, redness, etc., I suffered in the past. However, I like pretty much everything from Derma E, the Hempz lotion was great for the skin on my thighs, and the blush is an excellent color for me, so I feel the value is there.

I’m still waiting on my box, but I got this blush just a couple months ago. I think it was July? Maybe June. Some got a bronzer, others this exact blush. Just wondering if this will be sent again, or something different?
