Honest Diapers Review - Full contents of our August 2017 Bundle

Honest Company Diaper Bundles are always huge, since they have enough (or more than enough) for a month! Here's what I got in my August delivery.

If you're not familiar with this subscription, here are the basics: You always get 6 packs of diapers and 4 packs of wipes each month. For the diapers, you can select your favorite patterns, and Honest will randomly pick for you depending on what's available. You can swap in Overnight Diapers or Pull-Up style diapers for any of the 6 packs. You can even change the size on just some of the diapers, and you can also add on extra products for a 25% discount. (Plus, they occasionally have subscriber perks, like free items you can add on!)

Honest Diapers, 6 packages size 6

5 Packs of Honest Diapers, Size 6 - Total Value $69.75. Regularly $13.95/pack ($0.63/diaper), save 22% with subscription

1 Pack of Honest Overnight Diapers, Size 6 - Regularly $13.95/pack ($0.63/diaper), save 22% with subscription

So, this subscription always comes with 6 packs of diapers. I completely forgot to substitute a pack of overnight diapers last month, and ended up just using the standard Honest diapers at bedtime too. I was pretty surprised that there didn't seem to be a major difference in them overnight for my kid; we had a few leaks, but nothing too dramatic.

I should also add that I had to supplement this month with a pack of Target brand diapers and, wow: the difference was pretty big. I used to think Honest diapers weren't that different because they both have a 'papery' texture, but I've clearly gotten used to them! The Target diapers felt thin by comparison and definitely needed changing more frequently throughout the day. While my son could handle sleeping through the night with a non-overnight Honest diaper and have minimal leaking, that was NOT the case with Target brand.

Honest Diapers Review - Diaper prints for boys

I got one new print this month: this adorbs fall football print. Honest actually has released some new fall prints (we'll see those next month!) but they weren't out when I ordered this box. As usual, the print selection is super cute and I do love how well these diapers work for us! I got mostly the astronaut pattern this month, so I'm looking forward to hopefully getting more new prints next time around.

Honest Diapers Review - Wipes

4 pack of Honest Wipes – $18.95 ($4.95 individually)

I didn't get to review last month because I was on vacation when my box arrived (and my husband needed the diapers right away!), but I wanted to note that last month's wipes shipment arrived with no plastic re-sealable top. They had just a sticker covering up the opening (the sticker you can see below that says "Taking care of business– cheek to cheek"). This seems to be related to the other issues Honest has had lately, with the recall on some wipes due to mold (none of mine were affected by that recall) and the resulting wipes shortage.

Honest Baby Wipes

I will be the first to say that the stickers were COMPLETELY annoying and made the wipes almost impossible to re-seal, so I am happy we're back to normal this month. The wipes that sealed with just the sticker are the only time I've ever had an issue with mold on my wipes, too; after carrying an open pack around in our diaper bag for a few weeks, it did develop some black spots. Thankfully I have a surplus so I just tossed what was left of that pack, but I'd rather get no wipes instead of getting wipes that close with a sticker again.

TLDR; I prefer Honest's baby wipes to other brands, but the last few months have been rough in terms of quality and supply chain issues.

Honest Diapers Diaper Cream Diaper Cream

Honest Diaper Rash Cream - Value $9.95 ($7.46 with subscriber add-on discount)

We've been battling some end-of-summer-heatwave type diaper rashes lately, and my toddler has been complaining a lot when we change his diaper and he's actually been demanding diaper cream. Although I originally had some sticker shock about this price vs the size of the tube, it does work well for us and you can use it pretty sparingly and it still helps clear up rashes quickly. I also really like the scent, which is a bit herbal and seems to be the result of the various natural oils that are used in this product.

Honest Diapers Review - Honest Shampoo Honest Diapers Review - Honest Shampoo

Honest Shampoo + Body Wash, Fragrance-Free - Retail Value $9.95

I honestly don't even remember adding this to my order, but it looks like it was a subscriber freebie! Every 2-3 months it seems, Honest has a selection of products that they let their subscribers choose and add-on to their bundles for free. Fragrance-free isn't always my first choice to be honest (I just love that classic baby shampoo smell!) but I hadn't tried this particular product yet, so I wanted to see how it would stack up at bathtime.

This lathers up amazingly! It also has a really cool pump top which is definitely my preference for shampoo products. Although it is free of added fragrance, it wasn't completely scent-free– but I can't put my finger on exactly what it smelled like.

Verdict: With the bundle discount, add-on products, and subscriber freebie, I saved $50 this month (these products would have been$122.55 at retail prices, but I paid $79.99 for the bundle plus $7.46 for the diaper cream add-on). My kid doesn't have particularly sensitive skin anymore, so using Honest is more of a matter of convenience and reliability for me. I love that I can easily adjust the schedule from the app in my iPhone and swap in the add-on products if I'm running low on other household supplies.

I've tried a lot of different brands of wipes, diapers, and diaper cream– I have found that I prefer Honest's baby wipes the best, and that the diaper cream works well for us. I've definitely not been thrilled about the issues they've had this year, but I do think they've tried to do what they can to make it right: the voluntary recall on wipes, and giving subscribers a credit for the bundles that shipped without wipes both come to mind.

As for the class-action settlement, I'm not a lawyer, but it looks to be mainly focused on the use of the word "natural" in their marketing. From what I've read, the FDA doesn't have any strict regulations at the moment for what can and can't be labeled "natural" though, so this seems (to me) like it falls in a grey area. I'll continue to use their products for now since I've personally never had any issues with them.
