Wow. Yeah, when you checkout, the total at the bottom shows you are being charged the $4.95 or whatever for shipping only. They immediately email you a totally different receipt, including a charge for the second month’s box, and charge you $24.98 or so right away.

That’s more than shady. I have emailed them for a refund on the second box charge. I would still like the almost-free box, but not too hopeful. Mentally preparing to contact my CC company on this one….

I ordered the trial box on September 27 and was told that my box would ship out on October 15. I also cancelled the subscription in the same day after hearing about its shady offer.

Anyways, I still haven’t gotten the trial box. I’m going to double check my credit card bill tonight..

Has anyone else had any luck getting a refund? I haven’t had any luck so far. I’m pretty upset because it absolutely was not clear that I was signing up for a subscription and I would have canceled if I had known.

I got a call back four days later. They will not refund the whole three months, even though it has not shipped. Karina told me that they have to order the candy in advance, so they have already bought the candy. She sent me an email before they will cancel, and I have to waive part of the fee charged to my account. I am contacting the Better Business Bureau. P.S. The box I got was a joke…

Wow – really wish I had read these comments before ordering a gift subscription for my sister-in-law! I received the same BS response about pre-ordering candy after the unwanted auto-renewal occurred, as if a terrible business practice is the customer’s problem, and am on the hook for the subscription fees as well. The rep had the audacity to suggest that the recipient “re-gift” extra boxes of unwanted candy. I’m kicking myself for ever ordering – I have been giving negative feedback wherever possible and will also be contacting the BBB!

So this means that if I do the $4.99 trial box and decide after it ships, as long as it’s before November 1st, I will not be charged the $60 for3 months?

Or do I have to cancel now?

From what I was told if you purchased the trial box in September you will get it in October and would need to cancel by October 31st. If you haven’t cancelled by October 31st you will be charged $19.99 on November 1st and would receive the November box.

So you aren’t charged the full $60 all at once but would be charged $19.99 on November 1st, December 1st and January 1st (would be the last one) -but again you can cancel at any point during those 3 months and won’t be charged.

It was quite confusing at first but I got a nice customer service representative and she explained it well. Hope that helps!

I also realized too late this was a scam. Ordered the free trial + shipping only to receive a confirmation email that included the free trial and a 19.99/month X 3 month additional charge. Of course this wasn’t written anywhere in the promotional advertisements, just fine print under international shipping. I am trying to cancel but being that it is the last business day of the month and there is no actual person to contact – just an email – I’m not very hopeful. Please beware! What a scam.

Update: Customer service has contacted me and I have to say they were courteous and knowledgeable. It isn’t clear why I was charged the $19.99 + s/h in addition to the free box + s/h, but they have refunded that charge to me.

They also explained that when a customer signs up for the free box they are automatically enrolled in a 3 month subscription, but that the customer can opt out anytime after receiving that first box as long as the request is submitted before the 1st of the month. So beware that after receiving your promotional box you will need to email to cancel if you do not wish to be charged/receive more boxes. — This isn’t very clear in these promotional advertisements.

But I can testify that customer service will respond to you and that, in my case, they are quite helpful! Hope this can help clear somethings up.

Liz, thank you so very much for including cancellation info. I would LOVE to have brief cancellation on every review that just says “Cancel via email” or “Cancel via telephone” and such. Some places that require phone get you with the hard sell to try to get you to stay.

WHAT! Oh man I just ordered and then seen the post about 3 months pre-paid so that means they are charging me $60.00 for a $4.99 free box. I got screwed, next time I am reading ALL posts first before signing up.

Cancel. I just ordered yesterday and emailed to cancel today. That is a very shady offer if they really charge you for three months and say you get a free box of candy and only pay shipping/handling.

BEWARE: “After your free trial, you’ll get three months of monthly deliveries for just $19.99 a month pre-paid. Please enjoy your free InstaCandy on us!”

This info should be included in posts.

I took a chance as well. It does say chocolate. How can you go wrong with that?
