What’s One Of Your Favorite Recent Beauty Discoveries? (More than one is OK, too!)

For me, it’s theΒ Dove Clear Finish Dry Spray DeodorantΒ from the August Target Beauty Box!

It goes on invisible, is instantly dry, and after wearing it for a few days, I can say with certainty that it outlasts my regular Secret stick deodorant!

  1. I really love the Beauty Counter stick from the summer Box of Style. I mostly wear it as lip color and it’s just a perfect not-too-much-but-definitely-something color for me.

  2. This post is kinda making me sad, I’ve received so many beauty samples and full size products this summer and there’s literally nothing I’m constantly using or wanting to buy. The rituals glossybox was amazing, but that was the spring. I just realized that Sephora Play has introduced me to so many awesome things and I’m going to resub right now, I always complain about them but last year I found some great products I ended up buying.

  3. live beautifully natural deodorant and the moody sisters brand from Luxe pineapple

  4. From a sub:
    – Caudalie Vinosource Moisturizing Sorbet (Ipsy):
    – Beauty Protector Protect & Detangle Spray (Birchbox)
    – Benefit Porefessional Face Primer (Birchbox)

    – Caudalie Beauty Elixir (from the Sephora Favorites Ultimate Travel Bag advertised here on MSA): OMG, I am *obsessed* with this stuff now. The first couple of times I used it, I didn’t really care for the scent, but now I can’t get enough! It just feels so clean and calming and refreshing! I am on my 2nd mini bottle and I am actually thinking of splurging and buying the full size. I am hooked.
    – tarte drench lip splash lipstick in “cabana boy” (from the custom kit advertised here on MSA): I love the color and feel of this lipstick, and the packaging is really pretty. However, I have heard that there isn’t much product in these tubes, so it probably isn’t a good bang for your buck unless you’re getting it like this as part of a grab bag custom kit type thingy.

    Not from a sub:
    – e.l.f. Makeup Remover Pen: This thing is a lifesaver. You know the saying “Practice makes perfect”? I believe that’s mostly true EXCEPT for applying liquid eyeliner. This thing makes cleanup so easy, and it is only $3!!! I have already purchased 3 and would definitely purchase again.
    – No7 Stay Perfect Eyeshadow Trio in “Cappuccino”: I got this in my Xmas stocking and was surprised at how it ended up being my every day go-to eyeshadow. I like the way it feels and the colors are nice neutrals. I would definitely purchase this again.

    • Even after this tl;dr comment, I still forgot something! πŸ˜€

My favorite recent beauty BRAND discovery is (unfortunately) Tatcha.

I say unfortunately because it is sooo e$$pensive! I have fallen in love with their water cream, camellia cleansing oil, and blotting papers.

I have never spent more than $15 on a moisturizer in my life and I am seriously considering purchasing the full size water cream for $68. Help.

  5. The Zelens Vitamin drops and Indie Lee Co-Q toner in the Caroline Hirons x Cult Beauty Box are my new must-haves. I also love the Beauty Counter sunscreen from the RZ Box of Style! I ordered two July Popsugar Must Have boxes, partly because I love the Supergoop sunscreen mousse (as well as everything else) that came in the box.

  6. I have found so many new loves…but I am a lippie girl….I LOVE the Akar ruby tint butter….have purchased 4 full sized since the sample in the allure box. The Ven lip cream (can’t remember which box) and the dermatological nightly lip treatment (also can’t remember which Box). I also can’t live without the Laniege Spwcial Care Lip Sleeping Mask. Have never seen it in a sub box….just the other skincare items. I love this question….so fun to see what other people love!

  7. That deodorant is my go to now too. I use Degree, but I do love that, however my favorite is mascara primer that I discovered in a Target box as well.

  8. I can’t live without Julep’s Love Your Bare Face cleansing stick and Konjac Sponge. My skin has never looked better.

  9. From the boxes: I got Too Faced Better than Sex (full size!) in Look Incredible, which you don’t review here. It is every bit as good as they say and I love it, but had never tried it before. I also can’t remember the brand name – skinny something – but I got a coconut oil from Vegan Cuts that is the only thing that soothes the eyelid rashes I get.

  10. I’ll admit, Glossybox is not wowing many subscribers these days (it is way to hard to compete with Boxycharm in the $21 box market), but a couple of my favorite products have come from GB, the most recent being the Doucce blushes. I feel like people are upset about GB splitting the blush duo over two months and general lack of customer service and may not be giving the blush a fair shot. I think they deserve some recognition for being pigmented and blending beautifully, I didn’t feel like they were chalky in the least! The first one sent, Summer Sunset was a beautiful summery coral, and the second I received was Pink Beach which gives a healthy cool-weather rosiness. I’ll set aside my gripes about receiving the wrong blush color for now…

    • I’m liking the $10 GB deals….I’ll probably keep my sub after the deal goes away. BUT hoping for more of it…..:) Funny, a lot of our “favorites” seem to come from GB in this survey…!

      • I noticed that also. Even though they had some real misses they had some great products.

  11. I love Benefit’s Roller Lash Mascara, their Gimme Brow, and First Aid Beauty cleanser with red clay. My favorite of all time is Eyes by To go Spa and any sheet mask!!!

  12. The Boscia pore pudding mask from a Sephora play! box. I notice a pretty big difference in my skin every time I use it!

  13. The Blinc Electric Eyes Palette from BoxyCharm has become my go to for my eyes. I collect palettes, but I keep using this one. The colors just blend so well.

    • This is my fav find here lately too! I am obsessed with this pallete!!!!!

  14. From sub boxes: the oval paddle brush from the May Boxycharm. I love it. It really makes a huge difference in how my cc cream is applied and looks.

Also, the Bare Minerals spf primer from the July Boxycharm. Another layer of spf for my face is good for me! A little goes a long way. And it goes on nicely under my cc cream with spf.

Not from sub boxes: from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale I got Paula’s Choice 2% BHA liquid exfoliant, and I LOVE it. It exfoliates like nobody’s business and made my skin so soft and smooth after ONE USE. I am sold. I couldn’t stop touching my face. The only other time my skin was like that was after I got a dermaplane facial.

  15. Unani Milk Cleanser from Glossybox. And polish called Pink Gel Coat by Perfect Formula in an Ipsy bag. That polish is the ONLY thing that saved my nails.

  16. I’m really liking the Sunday Riley Tidal cream from BoS Winter 2016. It’s not recent, but I’m still using it. πŸ™‚

I have been really happy with Trust Fund Beauty nail polishes – they dry faster than any others that I’ve found, which is typically a huge issue for me.

The “mermaid tears” nail oil we got in I think May Popsugar has been great for me. I thought it’d be junk & never would have thought about buying it before, but I’ve used it the last few times I’ve done my nails, after removing old polish and before applying the new, and it’s been really great. I think it’s made a difference in how smooth the polish goes on, and in my cuticles’ appearance.

  17. I loved the Caudalie Moisturizing Sorbet from my Ipsy bag, it feels so refreshing on my skin. Another product, Lather Cucumber and Facial Mist from Yuzen also feels and smells awesome! The Aerin beach cream from my GlossyBox adds a nice sparkle to my skin and I will definitely use it at the beach this October. When Ipsy sent the City Color eye shadow in Beach Cottage I was thinking, it was really to green for me, but then I used it wet as an eyeliner and loved it so much that I ordered 6 more colors.

How do you guys organize? I ended up buying 15 Tartan & Twine triangle make-up bags (I previously used those to store my make-up in) and one of those cubicle organizer with pull out cubes and divided all the products into by category. I only keep the products that I currently use in my bathroom.

    • I use the SKUBB series from Ikea to keep organized. I have several of the zip up nylon drawers in my bathroom closet, with the smaller cubes inside to organize my sample/travel size items, extras I’ve swapped for that I won’t need until I run out, etc. and then out on the counter (we have a big counter) I have everything organized for my makeup – palettes, lipsticks, brushes, etc. all in separate sections.

  18. I just finished the bottle of Dr. Hauschka facial toner from Whole Foods bag. I really enjoyed that and must by more.
The Kat Von D lip cream in a jar was used to the very last drop from Ipsy. I prefer tubes but this lasted on my lips longer than any tube of product.

  19. Not quite a sub box, but everything from the Sephora Summer Hair Saviors kit is amazing.

  20. Benefit roller lash mascara, I am going to use up that sample til its dry!

  21. AERIN Beach Cream!!! Love it!!! Can’t remember which box!

    • I loved this one too! When I first got the tube, I thought I wouldn’t use it. Tried it on my arm and I love the way it looks.

      • Mine came in GlossyBox – July 2017

    • It came in July’s Glossybox and I love it too! I actually got two bottles of it because I wound up with two boxes that month due to overlapping subscriptions.

    • Aerin Beach Cream is great…Glossybox….and Julep lip oil…I will buy again. Love and bought full size Rosarco Milk Leave in Conditioner- Briogeo…really helped my coarse, dry hair be smooth and softer…. Also, I bought the Head and Shoulders! …I love it….I want to buy from Cake their Coconut and cream lotion. Nice scent and super hydrating.

  22. Goodal Waterest First Essence from Birchbox I think. Have bought it several times. I’m glad I liked it better than the SKII sample I got from Allure…a lot less expensive

    • Oh, I love that! I pat a few drops on after using a face mask at night, and it feels so cool and refreshing.

  23. Hands-down the Aloha Youth Serum (Honua Skincare) from the Beauty Heroes box. Bought two since the box….smells divine (if you like Gardenia) and my skin drinks it up.

  24. Benefit’s Gimme Brow.

  25. Hanalei lip balm from Ipsy bag. Since then I bought two full sizes of it. Just cannot get enough of it. I put it before go to bed and in the morning my lips so healed.

  26. This was a few months ago, but I love the Evolv h polishing balm for hair. Super lightweight, and really makes hair shiny and smooth. got it in a beautyfix box

    • This actually works. Will buy full size. Amazing.

  27. LXMI pure Nilotica Melt from the Test Tube. The first product I actually bought after trying the sample. I am on overload with products but this was a must have

  28. All the Sisley skin care. Would have never tried without this site.

    • Completely agree! Sisley skincare is amazing!

I also love the CHI Argan hair oil that came in the LE Beauty Test Tube box this summer. It makes my frizzy, wavy hair so soft and smooth. It smells fantastic too.

  29. I really like like the Tarte Lights, Camera, Splashes mascara. Prior to receiving it I never wore waterproof mascara because it felt too heavy, but this one is light and lash extending.

    • Agree! Can’t believe how non-clumpy it is. It feels light and summery.

  30. I don’t recall which box, but First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream has taken a decade off the skin on my neck and chest. The skin was looking so dry and crepe-y before, and now it looks smooth and younger. Too heavy for my face (I’m addicted to the Oolution from Oui Please for that) but I am now devoted to it for my neck and chest.

  31. The Julep lip oil – I think it came in Glossybox? I use it constantly and I love it. I’ll continue to buy it when this bottle is done.

Sadly I’ve also just discovered the Gold 48K Paris Cream from the most recent Oui Please does magical things for my skin. I’ve been swapping like crazy for every one I can get my hands on because never ever ever in a million years would I spend $200 on a beauty product. :0

  32. Tatcha Indigo Soothing Silk Body Butter – if I am not mistaken it was from an Allure Beauty Box. It is amazing – I had to buy full size after. Another great discovery are highlighters in general – it worked wonders and wvery beauty box had it πŸ™‚

  33. The Kat Von D Lock It concealer in the Sephora Play! box. I have searched for years and years for a concealer that would hide the dark shadows under my eyes without looking cakey or crepey. Have been satisfied w MAC for a couple of years, but the KVD is a game changer!

Even tho a smidge darker than I’d like, it was so smooth and totally covered the dark circles without aging me a day. Amazing! I purposefully slept in it to see it in morning light, and still amazing! (I used Hourglass veil primer underneath and set with bare minerals translucent powder from boxycharm.)

I immediately ordered 1 shade lighter from Sephora, as well as the brush and the setting powder, as I needed some and it gets rave reviews. So dang happy!

    • Ooooh sounds nice πŸ€— I got the same sample but I have a question. I don’t have bags under my eyes, but grooves. Is that the same as dark shadows? Because I’d love to be able to conceal them instead of resorting to fillers ☹️

      • Sounds the same as me, Alex. I don’t have bags, but indentations from the inner corners of my eye down in a semi circle, if that makes sense. I would need to plump them w a filler to fix the issue.

This helped more than anything if ever tried!

        • Thank you Ann. I’m totally going to try this. I really don’t want to go through the pain and risk of fillers 😊

  34. That Dove spray is worth the price of admission. I even like to use it to freshen up after a long work day to evening. One of my favorite finds was the Glossy Box Rituals Set. I love the scent.

Of course, I will just say prior to subscription boxes my world was only the counter at the mall for specialty makeup and skin care. Not that I am putting down Estee Lauder, Clinique, etc., but MSA has opened doors to brands I would have never experienced. In fact I thought getting the free 7 piece kits with $27 purchase at the mall was the thing. Oh, I lived a sheltered life :). Now not to sound product snobby in any way, but there is so much more quality life products out there that I absolutely love trying! And I love getting more access and knowledge of better quality products that are free of certain of things.

    • You pretty sound just like me before I got into sub boxes last year. All I knew about was anything within the walls of Target, Sephora, Ulta, Macy’s, & Nordstrom. Similar to what you said, there is a whole other world of very high quality beauty products out there beyond the walls of those stores. πŸ™‚

    • Yes I love everything from the Rituals box, the shower exfoliating scrub is my fav though. I also use the spray as a room spray lol, but it’s great and I’m sure other people would love it as a perfume.

  35. I’m finding my favorite discoveries are the brands themselves, not necessarily the specific samples I’m sent.

I got a couple hand creams from Cake Beauty via ipsy, and I loved the scents, so I just got a Lemon perfume from them last week and it’s AMAZING. I smell like a lemon muffin when I wear it.

  36. Eco Lips Medicinal Lip Balm. I had horribly chapped lips and this stuff healed them within a couple of days use. And it feels great going on. Really cool and soothing.

    • Your post reminded me… I do have a semi-recent beauty discovery that came from a real sub box… the Jersey Shore Mongongo lip balm. I got a jumbo sized version that I’ve been using for quite a while that I got in one of my natural beauty boxes (I can’t remember which one). I love how moisturizing it is! It’s actually got me considering trying that Jersey Shore sub for a month or two just to stock up on some more of their balms!

  37. Christophe Robin sea salt scalp scrub – it’s amazing! I’ve swapped for six, and already used up three πŸ™

    • Ugh, I love that little jar so much. I just have to remember to really douse my hair with my usual hydrating mask afterwards.

    • I know! this scrub and also the ACV rinse from dphue that came in an allure beauty box a while ago have done so much to help my scalp!

  38. everything! I don’t remember when it came but I just cracked it open so it’s still a new “find”. I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE Lancome’s Hypnose Drama mascara. I am going to be so bummed when the deluxe sample is finished. I may even spend the $30+ to buy it even though I have a bunch of other samples to get through from all my subs

    • love too

    • Yes!! Me too! Love this.

    • I just tried that stuff recently and love it too! I like my old maybelline mascara but the LancΓ΄me volumizes more.

  39. Julep lip oil from the June Glossybox.

A good question might be: what was your Yahtzee Box (a box where you like and use every single item, no trades, nothing gathering dust under the bed).

  40. Surprisingly many of my favorites are from glossybox, tarte bb, bang lip and cheek, and aerin beach cream, plus the josie moran powder from the mother’s day LE. From beautyfix, I love the Laura geller lip liner and Kevin acucoin lip in cashmere. I discovered my holy grail mascara, w3ll people expressionist, in a target box. And I love the brown sugar shower oil from PSMH, I can’t wait to open one for fall! Oh! And the hibiscus beauty counter blush from RZ. SO MANY great items since my addiction blossomed late last year!

    • LOVE the brown sugar oil. I use it after a long 12 hour shift. So lovely!!!

    • That beauty counter blush is AMAZING. I’ve been using it nonstop.

    • I agree with the first 3 glossy box picks I haven’t got a chance to try the powder yet. But especially the Bang beauty I will literally not leave Ithe house without it in my bag.

  41. I’m still over the moon about my oval face brush from the May boxy charm. I use it every day without fail to apply my foundation, and it gives a perfectly blended finish.

    • I do love that brush. I swapped for another!

  42. From a “sub” box… the Acure Day Cream that I got in the Whole Foods bag. It’s a wonderfully light day cream that instantly absorbs into the skin, and leaves my skin feeling moisturized, but not greasy.

From a non-sub box… the Uma Ultimate Brightening Mask. I believe I got this in a Detox Market GWP, and I just tried it for the first time last night, and all I can say is… lovely! I could feeling it working as soon as I put it on, and saw a nice glow after I washed it off. I also love how it looked & smelled too! It reminded me of something that could have come from Mahalo, which is one of my favorite skin care lines.

I definitely would purchase the full-size of both of these products.

    • Luna, I just have to say I love when you comment in reviews (not to sound weird). I’m a big fan of the natural/green beauty market and all your posts turn me on to new ideas. THANK YOU! πŸ™‚

      • Awww, thanks Lauren! I truly appreciate your comment! πŸ™‚

  43. The Winky Lux Uni-Brow Universal Eyebrow Pencil from Boxycharm’s July 2017 box. I never used eye pencils before but this one is easy to use and very suttle so I feel comfortable using it πŸ™‚
