Each box comes with a fold out card detailing the items included, and what themes inspired the box.

The themes this month are: fireflies, bonfire, camp, sand, and fireworks.

Now, on to the items!

Ocean Tribe by Turkish-T Kilim Towel – Value $49

This is one of my favorite POPSUGAR items of all time! I love Turkish towels, and this one is different than any of the others in my collection. The pattern is gorgeous, and the fabric is a little thicker than your standard Turkish towel, too! It’s a perfect beach/pool towel!

It’s 100% Turkish Cotton and measures 35 x 63 inches. The reverse side is lovely, too:

This could also work as a throw blanket for indoors or outdoors.

Here it is with me holding it up to give you a better sense of scale:

Bando Sip Sip Tumbler – Value $14

I love Bando! (I buy their agendas and phone cases all the time!) They are such a fun and cute brand, and this tumbler matches their aesthetic perfectly.

It’s a double-walled acrylic tumbler with a silicone straw.

It holds 20 ounces and is handwash recommended. (I’ve put other Bando tumblers in the dishwasher on the top rack and had no issues, though.)

Supergoop Super Power Sunscreen Mousse SPF 50 – Value $19

Another brand I love! (And I’m always happy to see quality sunscreen in subscription boxes.) This mousse formula is new to me, and it is amazing. (For reference, you need about a golf ball sized amount of mousse for each arm.)

It’s super easy to blend into your skin, and it is SO lightweight! And the formula is free of parabens, sulfates, phthalates, synthetic fragrances, and oxybenzone.

Tarte Lights, Camera, Splashes Waterproof Mascara – Value $23

!!! This is the waterproof version of my holy grail mascara! It adds volume, length, and you can apply multiple layers without any clumping issues. I normally buy the non-waterproof version, so it’s great to have this for the summer.

And it is REALLY waterproof! It’s even a little makeup remover proof! You will need a really good makeup remover to get this off, but the good news is you will not have to worry about any smudging, flakes, etc.

One thing I’ve noticed with both the regular and waterproof formulas is that the first one or two applications take a little more time/coats to get the results I want. After that, the wand seems to be perfectly coated, and the formula goes on perfectly in a few coats. (So if you aren’t in love with it after the first try, don’t give up!)

Sisters of Los Angeles California Fireplace Matches – Value $10

I love the colors and design of this box!

And these oversized matches (10 inches long) are perfect for lighting grills, bonfires, etc.

Snyder’s of Hanover Wholey Cheese Smoked Gouda – Value $3.50

These cheese crackers are gluten free and made with real cheese.

My taste testers agreed they were super airy, crisp, and just generally delicious!

Verdict: This box has a retail value of about $118. And I think it’s my perfect summer box. There are so many brands I love in the July box, and a lot of products I would pay full price for, so the value here is even higher for me!

What do you think of the July POPSUGAR Must Have Box? Does this box feel perfect for summer for you too?

  1. I will wait until I find a good deal and definitely buy another one of these boxes!! The “towel” is more like a light throw, so I’m using it that way. The crackers are dangerously good, I already knew I liked the mascara, the matches are cute and will be handy this winter when we start lighting fires again, and the sunscreen is shockingly small, but cool. I hate the pattern on the cup, but I have used it every day since I got it, so it must not be that bad. In fact, it’s on my desk right now. It keeps my water cold and me hydrated, without leaking on my desk. Bottom line: I love this box enough to buy another!

  2. I can only pick this sub box up on sales and coupons so when I saw this box was perfect for my summer lifestyle I was happy to see even a $10 off coupon so I could get this one. I’m disabled so I take water aerobics all summer so this box fits perfectly. I’ll use the towel, sunscreen, and waterproof mascara every day at the pool. I live on strict SS income so I usually have to wait for a bigger disc. Like through GILT CITY but I really wanted use these products at the pool this summer.

  3. this box was good for me vs the last few months. and finally a gluten free snack item !!!!

  4. The towel is nice! I washed it and it shrunk and became softer. I can wear as a wrap or bathing suit cover up as well as use it as towel. I also plan on using it as a fun tablecloth. The crackers taste like cheese it crackers only they are gluten free ( reg cheddar flavor… the smoked flavor was awful).
Cup is going to be updated with sticker . That company had so many cute things was disappointing. What had happened to the must have attitude of the company….it’s hard to get excited like in the past. Mascara brand is also gluten free so I’m happy! Sunscreen is useful! Matches will be used, but can’t help thinking how clever it would have been to add a mini s’more making kit or some cute item with fireflies! Cute twinkle lights even? I want to be on their creative team!

  5. The matches go with lighting grills, fire pits, candles. I think they are more than appropriate for a patio/evening beach theme. The mascara is waterproof, for summer water activities. Cute cup for iced tea by the pool, remember no glass? Cheese snack for the wine I’ll put in my cup. Add sunscreen and an awesome towel that’s easier to pack and carry than a thick beach towel and you’re set for summer adventure.
S’mores in a summer box? Get real. Ants when I open it? Melted chocolate/marshmallows from sitting my outside mailbox? Glad to get this box as is. I think they did a great job at the theme,
Just my opinion though. How much do you expect in a box I paid $22. for? Hate on, ladies. I’m happy.

    • not everyone paid $20 for the box, so………………..

    • What was the coupon that you were able to pick up this box for $22. The cheapest coupon out now is for $10 off so $29.99
Or is your discount based on a previous sale like the Black Friday sale? Just curious cuz I love me some deals.

    • I paid $43 for my box. Not all of us paid $22.

  6. As I’m unpacking my box today my brother sees the cup and asks where do I get free refills from…I thought it was just him being silly and brushed it off but then later my hubby sees the cup in the sink and asks the same thing. I feel like it’s going to be an ongoing joke to use this cup

  7. Once again, my box is missing items. I cannot get a response from anyone at Popsugar. I have emailed, I have Twittered, I have Facebooked. They just continue to ignore me. They will not even respond to my request to cancel my subscription. I am beyond frustrated.

  8. I’m sorry, but matches and cheez-it crackers?? This box gets worse every month.

    • Funny, I was happy for both items. My husband loved the crackers, and the matches are perfect for beside the gas range for those (rare) occasions it won’t light or the power is out.

  9. Mascara only, this time….

  10. I got my box and absolutely love the Turkish towel- I’m using it as a light throw as we speak. The tumbler is a great size. I feel like the towel is worth the $40 alone- it’s huge and great quality. The rest of the box is added bonus or swap items. The matches are ridiculously long, like 12 inches or so! The box looks cute on the fireplace though. They might be appropriate for a fire pit. Overall I’ve be pleased w my subscription. Hoping for a Black Friday deal since I hadn’t tried Popsugar by last years deal and now am a fan. I love the practicality of the items.

  11. I just got my box in today and even though I was initially excited about getting the box, I like it even more in person. Because of the weather I am glad they chose a salty snack and it was delish. In fact my husband let me have some (lol). But the item that surprised me the most was the cup. I guess I was expecting a lighter weight lack of a better word flimsy cup but it is solid. Plus me or my husband could use it. I really like it. I almost wish this box would go on sale because I would gobble more as gifts. And of course I like the towel, but we are going to use it more as a throw for our sofa. I know everyone has different tastes which I respect and appreciate but I felt this box was solid for me. The matches are going into our emergency weather pile since we tend to have a tendency to get tornadoes.

  12. These boxes are not worth 40 bucks a month. Maybe half that. No way would matches be 10 bucks, the towel is maybe 7-10 on amazon, the tumbler is a wal mart special, and who needs more mascara and sunscreen? The quality and wow factor just aren’t there. Fabfitfun seems to be the only consistent box in the value department.

    • I have to agree . I’m not so sure it is worth it . I did like the towel although I’m not sure if it’s something I would have bought myself. And everything else was just MEH. And can I just say the crackers were just disgusting!!!

  13. People are tagging the supergoop sunscreen from this box! I’ve seen several other people being tagged with things that I know are from subscription boxes. It’s getting annoying. 😣

    • What does tagging mean, if you don’t mind explaining ☺️

  14. This box makes me so happy! (that I don’t subscribe anymore) #SorryNotSorry

  15. I like and can use everything except……..the dumb cup. I’ll take a refillable water bottle any time over a flimsy cup.

  16. Had to sign back up after seeing the Turkish towel spoiler! Ive been wanting one and that blue is gorgeous! The only thing I may give away is the cup since I’m getting so many.

    • I have to admit the towel is cute. I hope I get the grey

      • Pretty sure there are no variations. Everyone is getting the blue.

  17. This is my first box ever and i was really excited about the firefly theme and am bummed theres not going to be any cute fireflies in the box. I had even thought that maybe had a firefly tumbler that we would receive or a mason jar with feux fireflies. I also thought a smores snack woukd be fun when i think campfires i think smores. Maybe they should have put some marshmellow roasting sticks in the box. I am excited about the giant box of matches. I wont use them as matches but i love the california writen on them and can display it as an art piece. I think the matche are pretty too and i love the blue tips. 10 ppl are suppose to get a free gift in the box a giant blanket. I would love that.

  18. If they do a half off, I may go for it!

  19. I’m super disappointed and regretting that I jumped the gun and bought this one after how excited I was about the June box. I was really thrilled about the towel when they revealed that spoiler and had my hooes high for a fantastic box but everything else is lackluster to me. I will probably end up using about half the items but the value definitely isn’t in this box for me.

  20. This month looks like a major improvement over last month, but still I am on the fence about subscribing.

  21. popsugar works perfectly for me because I have a teen and a tween daughter. The towel will be useful to me, the teen will take the mascara and the tween the tumbler. Well all use the sunscreen and I’ll keep the matches for when we need them.

  22. PSMH already elevated my preferences on drinking containers (Swell, Corkcicle) so this tumbler is definitely not something I’d use but I’ll use everything else. Overall I think the box is good and I can see how the camping theme fits.

Maybe I’ll take the straw out of the tumbler and use it to hold snacks while traveling in the car since it fits in cup holders

  23. Idea to fix the cup: Put a vinyl sticker on it to cover the graphic. If you own a Cricut machine, you can even design/make your own vinyl sticker. I’m thinking about borrowing my friend’s Cricut to made a black and white vinyl sticker of the Little Mermaid Starbucks mashup logo created by artist Bruce Yan.

  24. So this is why I like getting the spoilers on popsugar. 90% of the time when I see a review for a box that I would initially find disappointing, it gives me time to think about the items, what I want to keep and what I want to trade, and often I end up liking the box more than I thought it would by the time that it arrives. This isn’t the most exciting box ever, but it’s a bit more practical than most, so the value is there to cover the cost of the box.

While the towel is the hero item, I’m on the fence with that one. I own so many towels thanks to my boxes, that I really don’t need another, but I have been told that a Turkish towel might do wonders for my naturally wavy/curly hair (recently grew it out and discovered I had curls, it was a surprise to me). Might keep it, might trade it, but it up on the trade site last night and have people lining up to trade. If there’s a good enough offer, I’ll totally trade. Sunscreen is something I always need, I love my candles to the matches will get use, I just ran out of mascara, the tumbler is tacky but will get used (this was the biggest disappointment to me), and I already know that I’ll love those cheese crackers (is it weird that I’m most excited for them). So not exciting, but practical and useful, which I’ll take any day over a box with one or two wow items, then filled the rest of the way with stuff I’ll never use.

  25. I hate when boxes are in this price range & the content is BLAH! I’ve always thought I would miss something good but they really need to do better.

  26. A towel, a cup, sunscreen, mascara, matches and crackers? I’m so glad I didn’t pay full price for this box, I’d be fuming! One more month until my sub runs out, finally!

  27. I love everything, except the tumbler. However, I can see the tumbler with a movie candy, small uncooked popcorn bag, and movie tickets as a really fun teacher appreciation gift. I may buy two because everything else is perfect and my youngest has two teachers!

    • Really cute idea!

    • You can probably grab a second tumbler on the swap site!

  28. I am so happy that I have cancelled. But I am not saying that this is a bad box, just that it really isn’t a good match for me.

  29. I’ll at least use everything in this box and I’m excited about the towel. The tumbler is not cute (mostly because of the slogan) but I can use it for smoothies. I like that the items are functional and not just something that sits on a shelf.

  30. @Liz is the towel too thick to be used as a sarong?

  31. I don’t love everything in this box but I’m good with this. I’ve been wanting to try Super Goop, I love the towel so much and the rest is kind of eh. I might end up loving the others and if I don’t I’m sure my daughter will love the cup but not the matches because she’s 10 :p

  32. Wow, I was really impressed with the variety in the curation! I can use some new fireplace matches and I go through so much sunscreen. Seems like we are always loosing towels on our trips so another can’t hurt. I’m excited to try the snacks too. Great job this month Pop Sugar!

  33. Everyone loves to hate! I know some months are sort of a miss, but overall I think Popsugar sends quality, fun, trendy, and different items that I wouldn’t buy myself, and that’s the exact purpose of me subscribing to a 40 dollar a month box. Not sneezing on 40 dollars because of course it’s hard earned money, but I could go to target and spend 40 dollars on almost nothing that is of a great value. So hate all you want, I’m going to enjoy my fun surprise every month with Popsugar. It’s my little gift to myself, and for my friends when I’m not into something and I know they’ll enjoy it! A little positivity goes a long way people 🙂

    • This is exactly how I feel about the boxes! It’s such a wonderful thing to actually get mail that is a fun surprise to open, and I agree, I spend 40$ just on everyday things on a regular Target trip. My husband bought me a subscription for Valentine’s Day, so every box I open I think of it as a gift from him, and it makes every item seem worth something.

  34. I want that towel. Maybe if the box goes 50% off…

  35. If anyone wants to unload your box, let me know! I have some things up for swap.

  36. And also…leave out the snacks…I don’t sit around and snack all day.
    What happened Popsuger??
You used to be great…I’m tired of towels, throws as well.

    • I actually appreciate the snacks offered in sub boxes! lol I guess they can’t please all of us :/

      • Same! I love the snacks that come in boxes. They’re usually something I wouldn’t necessarily buy for myself, which is what makes them special.

      • I agree! I don’t mind the snacks at all! If you don’ t like the snacks or the box it’s time to unsubscribe and go away.

      • I love the snacks…but I don’t eat them and my husband is diabetic.. So they’re wasted. I would have loved wind chimes, jar lights..etc..
        I’m glad others like though.
        Happy Tuesday ladies!

    • Leave out the snacks?!? What !!!! Sometimes the snacks is are the best part!!! Those speculoos cookies, that smores chocolate bar.. totally awesome and I look forward to a gourmet treat every so often since I don’t buy junk food regularly. If you don’t like the snack I’m sure a food pantry would gladly take it off your hands! Or leave it in the break room at work.

    • I love the snacks. Do not get rid of them. I don’t sit around snacking all day either, but once a month it’s nice to get a little treat to toss in my beach bag and take along to the pool. I especially loved the little cookies last month with the frappacino. The two together made for a nice little mid-afternoon treat.

      • Some people have to drag everybody else down. I can’t believe the negativity here.

  37. What?? Last month was awful and now this? When I read fireflies I was hoping for a DIY light kit at least. I will use nothing in this box.

    • I hate DIY. Thank heavens I don’t see much in sub boxes. I don’t have patience for DIYs and crafting.

  38. Popsugar STOP with all the sunscreens! This box in my opinion is not great. I am thinking of canceling my subscription. Every month the quality goes down. $40 is a lot for a towel, cheese doodles, and matches that say California.

    • I’m ok with all the sunscreen! I go through it. That being said why is sunscreen always in the summer boxes? If you do it right you use it in the winter as well.

  39. I feel like everyone will have a better perception of the box if they didn’t include that matches.

It’s a great box, cute towel, quality sunscreen, mascara, bando tumbler, yummy snack.

Why they need include that matches? …

    • Agreed! I can’t use them. I live in an apartment with no fireplace and our state has strict fire laws so that means we can’t own a grill or even have a campfire in the park. Even when we go camping, which is rarely we just bring a lighter for convenience. I like everything else in this box though. Oh and where is the fireflies part of the theme? Or Smores? They could have focused on those more and it would have been a home run.

  40. I am really excited about this box. I think I will like and use everything in it. The towel looks awesome and I don’t have any Turkish towels yet. Even the snack is something I have been wanting to try. I like this box much better than last month, but then it has been every other one that I have been really liking.

  41. Awesome box

  42. I love this box! I was so needed more boxed matches for my candles because I have almost used the ones I got in my winter Happy Rebel box. I love the Tarte mascara. It is my favorite mascara. The Turkish towel is gorgeous. This is a great box! I can’t wait to get mine!

  43. Yay fun box!! I want a second one! The towel is gorgeous. Sunscreen, matches, and crackers will all get used. I’m not a huge fan of waterproof mascara but I have several nieces and can gift it. The only real disappointment for me is the cup. I’m a YETI fan and there’s nothing that compares. I don’t understand why people like those bkr bottles that keep showing up in boxes. The opening is so small you can’t possibly put ice in it and who wants to drink warm/hot water when it’s 100 degrees outside?

    • You can easily put ice in the BKR bottle. There are ice trays now made to fit inside bottled water and they work fine. I love BKR!

    • I fill it w water and chill it in the fridge so in the morning I have cold water for my morning commute. I love that it’s not plastic and looks cute. It’s great for bringing to the airport and filling up once you’re past the security line.

      • Ohhh good idea! Thank you Kc!

    • I like glass better than metal or plastic. To keep it cold because we have over 100 degree weather now, I carry a little cooler (from the petite little lace box) with ice packs. It works really well. The silicone covering hides whatever I’m drinking, too. To clean, I stick a Kleenex inside and swish it around with a chopstick. So there are workarounds and I’ve come to really like my blue bkr.

  44. LOVING this month. Every single item is a win! Woo hoo! So happy to subscribe 🙂

  45. So, just the towel and the matches will be useful. I’m avoiding sunscreen that has anything else besides the minerals. And I bought a 2nd box. I hope I really like the towel. If not….

  46. I can’t wait for the black friday deal for this box!! Kind of glad the $15 coupon they emailed me didn’t work after I saw that the spoiler really was I I would like in the box but hoping to get a long term cheapy deal on this because I enjoy what they send I would just be super disappointed with it at $40 a month.

    • Who sent you the $15 coupon? Was it through POPSUGAR as a perk to get you to resubscribe? Just curios cuz I can only afford this subscription with a coupon.

  47. @liz About the sunscreen… When I hear mousse, I think sticky and the last thing I want in a sunscreen is sticky haha after applying it. So… Is it sticky??

    • “haha” was supposed to be “hands.” (Sigh. Oh for the ability to edit comments…)

    • “The last thing I want is a sticky haha”
I have a sense of humor of a nine-year-old boy so that really did make me LOL

      • Me too! 😂

      • Well hey, at least I made someone laugh! My work here is done. 😀

(Except no, i really do want to know about the sticky hands thing.)

      • Lol! 😂🤣😂🤣

  48. Boo on the cup. It will end up piled up in the cabinet with all of those cups I get on vacations and at theme parks etc. just for the free/cheap refills. Can’t bring myself to throw them out but really don’t use them.

I like the regular version of the mascara so hopefully I’ll like the waterproof. Sunscreen is always useful for me. Matches are odd. Would I ever spend that kind of money on them…California box or not? No.

I’m hoping I like the towel. If I do and the boxes go on sale I’ll probably buy another one so I have a matched set.

  49. And I was sooo looking forward to the straw fringe clutch…… but no it’s a cup.

  50. Is it just me or do their spoilers reveal absolutely nothing to do with the boxes? I want to love their boxes but they’ve really been let downs lately… 😐😕😝

    • I agree … the inspirations don’t really give anything away about the contents. I figured we would be getting some yummy smores treat or something really cool since that was the biggest font – but no only matches. My grandma is turning 93 so a match that long might actually be useful for lighting 93+ 1 for luck candles. The rest will go in my camping bag I guess . I can already taste those cheesy crackers tho yummm
