Last year LF boxes were fab, and I was highly recommending. Don’t read fashion mags and recycle the mini Elle, but for many it’s a great addition. As far as curation, products were primarily from Europe, mainly the UK, with a few prestige US brands here and there, which is why I joined, to try something different. My box ships out of Spain, which must be an intl hub, translation – cost effective.

Imho, the boxes have been rapidly declining in value and desirability. They’ve been including European ‘drugstore’ brands rather than prestige products, which The Hut.com, an e-commerce unicorn biz touts.

Emailed them months ago when they sent out a trial size Black benefit brow pencil, asking why they don’t have a basic preference form for hair and skin. CS didn’t really care. This month it’s a potentially skin tearing Brunette brow pencil, which their helpful booklet tries to ‘sell’ as universal. Will probably give them a couple of months to improve before cancelling. However, with their buying power there’s no reason to include such cheap products.

The magazine has such tiny font I can barely read it. It really makes me pick and choose which articles are worth going blind for. I can see regular magazine type just fine.

Worth over 50$? Are you kidding me? The shampoo and the conditioner are in every drugstore -7$ full size, so the samples are around 1$.!! The skin79 is in jolse 11$ – again full size and free worldwide shipping. The korres sample is 4$, the lip balm is 6$. So, the eyeborw and the cleanser are over 30$?? This is the most dissapointed box ever!

I’m mad I’m locked in for 6 months. I am waiting for it to be up. I have not found anything useful from any of their boxes

Yeah, I know what you mean, I was disappointed even when I got one Look Fantastic box with the free Illamasqua palette promotion. The box that month only had two good items (spoilers came out already after I bought, just couldn’t resist the palette), and the palette turned out to be ugly in person, and nobody on the swap site expressed any interest in it either. So even with the $51 bonus item I was not sure I got my money’s worth.

I could have sworn i saw in the June review that there will be a MAC box, did I miss it or something. Want to tell my MACjunkie friend to subscribe to this for that. Anybody know anything?

All the products other than the shampoo and conditioner (glad they include both) are new to me. Even when a LF box looks boring I am always excited when it arrives. I have been subscribed a year now and am happy to keep it for another. My favorite box under $20. I have never tried the Mane and Tail products but I remember their popularity when introduced. I had a horse at that time and I had friends using the horse products on their hair for incredible shine. I have noticed other boxes are including it also. Mane and Tail seems to be on the comeback trail. If it’s been around for so many years it must be good even though you can get it a drugstore. Just because an item can be purchased at a drug store doesn’t make it bad. For example: L’Oréal which is a product of Lancome corporation and then Olay and their line of products in red. They are not cheap to buy even though they are at a drugstore. So give it a try, swap it out, or donate to a shelter. One item out of six that can’t or won’t be used is still a good deal. Especially since Look Fantastic has nice sized samples for the most part.

I am the biggest advocate for drugstore brands, with skincare especially where some brand name creams and serums can run you upwards of $150 a bottle, but are really not going to perform any better (and many are worse, especially if they contain fragrance and other irritating ingredients). I think the problem with this one is that Mane ‘n Tail is just so… utilitarian. Doesn’t sound feminine at all, does it? Pretty much any other brand at all would have sounded more glamorous. 🙂
Even Walmart sent us Gliss! And here is a fairly high-end beauty box that comes with its own edition of Elle magazine, and they are sending us Mane ‘n Tail. 😉
It certainly doesn’t help that those shampoo and conditioner at $5-6 at Target for huge 32 oz bottles, so the value of those samples is like two pennies.

STILL waiting for a reason to sub for! 😕

I guess I’m going to be one of the few who are excited for this box. Even if you don’t like the shampoo and conditioner, the other 5 items are incredible and more than make up the worth on this subscription. This is still my favorite monthly box.

Since this is a U.K. Based box, maybe Mane n Tail is not easily available there? That is the only reason I can think of why it is included!

Luna

I was thinking the same thing. Look Fantastic have included products in the past that have been in the U.S. for a super long time, but they’re now just getting overseas, so to the U.K. they are new products, and this box is letting their U.K. subscribers (and most likely other non-U.S. subscribers) “discover” them.

Actually, this is exactly the case. I’ve looked at decently priced beauty subscription boxes abroad out of curiousity to see what other countries get and they include a lot of US drugstore products (skincare and makeup) and the during the unboxings, the reviewers are always so excited to get to try this American brand they have heard so many good things about . . . and it will be something like Cetaphil or Revlon.

Christine

So I followed the link for the “Mane and Tail” and like one of the first reviews has a picture of a horse . . .

Easy pass for me. Glad they spoiled the full contents.

Mane & Tail is the last thing I expect in a LF box.

I’m SO angry that cheap-ass, drugstore Mane & Tail is in this box. If this were a $5-$10 Walmart or Target box, they could justify it, but this is not a cheap subscription. Those products cost next to nothing, they basically have the same ingredients as dish/laundry soap, and they’ve been around for like 40 years, at least. Who wants that? Nobody with any sense of style, who actually cares about the quality of their haircare, or is interested in new, healthy beauty items, which is kind of the point of these boxes — to be able to try current and new beauty items. This is a huge disappointment almost worth canceling over.

I thought that too, not even a quality old stand-by either. Just bleh.
