The bag included a list of items in the box.

A note on prices: Items like this can come from a variety of different suppliers at many price points, depending on how many you buy, etc. I couldn’t find a lot of these exact beads from common sources (e.g., Fire Mountain Gems), and it’s of questionable value to pick something similar, because a slight difference in grading or size or material could mean you are looking at half or double the price (or an even greater difference). Even different colors of the same size and shape of glass beads are priced differently due to materials needed to make the colors!

3 mm Czech Fire-Polished Beads in (from top to bottom) Crystal Light Beige Luster, Light Erinite, Opaque Medium Purple, and Chalk White

With this subscription, you pretty much always know what you’re going to get (only the colors vary a little). These colors are all useful. I am particularly happy to get the white ones, as that is a color that would work in most designs, and yet I have very little of it.

4 mm Czech Fire-Polished Beads in (from top to bottom) Opaque Red Vintage Bronze Luster, Full Coat Silver, Aqua AB, and Medium Yellow Opal

These colors are all great. Well, the red didn’t show up well here, but it looks better in the bracelet I made below. The full-coat silver will be nice in a design where I want some of that color without the weight of metal beads.

This is a bracelet I made using the opaque medium purple and chalk white 3 mm beads and the opaque red vintage bronze luster 4 mm beads, as well as some seed beads from my stash. This is a slightly modified version of Deb Roberti’s Ophelia pattern, which you can buy here for $5.

Verdict: I did not calculate a value for the July 2017 Dollar Bead Bag, for the reasons explained above. This is one of those subscriptions where you know in advance what you are going to get each month (only the color is a surprise). It works out to $1 per strand, and I think that is reasonable. These strands are a little shorter than what you’d get at Fire Mountain Gems, for example, but the prices are also lower. This is a good subscription if you are looking to build your stash.

Please note that no directions are given on how to use these beads, and you have to supply your own needles, stringing materials, tools, and findings.

What did you think of the July 2017 Dollar Bead Bag? Do you subscribe to any beading or craft boxes?
