The information card highlights a few of the items for the month as well as a few items from the BuffBoxx Shop.  There was also some product literature.

Reebok Unisex Gym Sack – Value $20?

This didn’t seem to be available on the Reebok site, but I found a similar drawstring bag for $20, so that’s the value I used.  BuffBoxx typically includes an article of Reebok clothing. Subscribers did receive a heads up via email this month that the Reebok item would be gear instead of clothing. The email came with a note that you can skip months of this subscription, so if you weren’t interested in getting Reebok gear instead of apparel, you had plenty of time to opt out for the month. I do have some drawstring bags from other fitness subscription boxes, but this is, by far, the nicest quality one I’ve received. Although I don’t work out at a gym, I do sometimes have need for an extra bag (like in winter when I climb the stairs at work and need somewhere to carry my pumps until I get to the 8th floor), so this will be put to good use.

Beast Aminolytes in Pineapple Flavor, 5 servings – Value $3.67 (Buy 30 servings for $21.99 )

This has 10 grams of total amino acids per serving. 5 of those grams are of branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs). This is a type of product I use pretty much every day. I don’t like to drink plain water, so I put some BCAA powder in the water I take down to my workout room. This has a decent flavor although I would recommend starting off at half strength as I do find it a bit intense. This is low-calorie and to me, there’s not an artificial sweetener aftertaste, but I consume artificial sweeteners all the time and so I may not notice such things. This is caffeine free and also contains some electrolytes. I like BCAAs because I don’t eat a lot of protein (I’m a vegetarian and prefer carbs), but also because I feel like they really help prevent delayed onset muscle soreness after workouts.

Beast Sports Nutrition Beast Mode Black, 1 serving – Value $0.80 (Buy 30 servings for $23.99)

I’m going to be honest, I didn’t try this one because, quite frankly, it scares me. It has 400 milligrams of caffeine per serving, which is far more than I’m comfortable consuming at once, especially when I am getting ready to increase my heart rate by working out. I would be really careful with this one and either not consume a whole serving at once, or only take it if you are sure your heart is healthy and you are pretty tolerant of high doses of caffeine.

Muscle Milk Protein Bar in Peanut Butter Cookie (1.76 oz) – Value $2.33 (buy a 12-pack for $28)

I have seen this brand all kinds of places but I have never tried any of their products before.  This is low in sugar (which is important to me) and I do love the peanut butter cookie flavor.  I find this to be just a little bit dry, overall, though.

The Scoopie– Value $3.79

This is a good idea. You can use the scoop part to get out whatever product you want (there are measurement marks on the side in tablespoons and cubic centimeters) and close it up. Then remove the plug on top and use the upside-down scoop as a funnel to dispense your product without mess. This is recommended for powdered baby formula, protein powder, etc. This also does snap closed pretty securely so you could scoop out some powder in the morning and then, at the end of the day, add it to your water at the gym, without having to carry a large jar of product around.

Flapjacked Protein Smoothie with Greek Yogurt in Milk Chocolate, Strawberry Banana, and Vanilla Bean (1 serving each) – Value $7.75 (Buy a mixed 6-pack for $15.49)

I am familiar with this product from another subscription box. I am happy to have a couple of new flavors to try. I like to add a bit of this to my smoothies in the morning; it blends really, really well and gives my smoothies a nice, creamy, non-gritty texture.

Sklz Hydro Roller – Value $39.99

This is a cool idea. It’s a water bottle that doubles as a foam roller. It is super portable, though a bit smaller than any of the foam rollers I have right now. The bottle part is made from stainless steel, and this seemed to work pretty well as a foam roller when I use it on my hamstrings.

Check out my review of BuffBox for June 2017!

I found a little insert inside the bottle with a few suggestions for using the roller.

Verdict:  I calculated a value of about $78.31 for the June BuffBoxx. That is a great value for this box. I thought the items were well-chosen and am not upset that there was such a high-caffeine supplement since it was a very small part of the overall value.  (It is always a good idea to research supplement ingredients before ingesting…) I appreciate getting to try new brands of protein powder and BCAA supplements, since those are things I buy a lot of anyway, the bag will come in handy, and I might just leave the foam roller bottle in my drawer at work because sometimes I get a little stiff from sitting at my desk all day. (I have an office where I can close the door so no one can see me foam rolling!)

Public service announcement: If you still have the Halo Top ice cream vouchers from last month sitting around, I highly suggest using them. I recommend the salted caramel flavor.  I found this product in stock at Publix, Target, and Whole Foods, so it should be easy to find. And it was really good.
