Another nice handwritten note this month from co-founder, Dan!
This card explains this month’s combo and the Israel-based companies that made the other items included.
Another card directs you to where you can buy other combinations they’ve had in the past, plus a 10% off coupon code.
Handmade Ceramic “Ahava” Bowl – Value $22.00
The first item is always a ceramic bowl from VIB Ceramics. The co-founder of Earth Wax and Fire, Vered, makes each piece by hand in her Tel-Aviv-based studio. This dish is stamped with the Hebrew word for love, pronounced “ah-ha-vah”. The card included suggests using this shallow, dishwasher-safe bowl for a myriad of things after using as a candle holder, such as: holding rings or jewelry, to serve sauces, or hold a teabag among others. I enjoy Vered’s ceramics, as you can tell they are well made, and this one has such a positive message inscribed. The neutral color lends itself to fit into any decor-style.
“Desire Lips” Floating Flower Candle – Value $14.99?
This bright red fragrant floating rose candle is really quite pretty. If you are feeling romantic, you can even pop this in the bath since it also floats! It’s handmade by the Israel boutique, Spring Perfume House, and has a burn time of 5 hours. I do take a lot of baths, so I’ll definitely try this in the tub, before return it to it’s perfectly-sized dish. I couldn’t find this seller online anywhere, but candles with a similar burn-time go for about $20 on Etsy. This one looked a bit smaller than the ones I found, though, so I’m guessing it’s around $14.99.
Flowers of Israel Picture Card Game – Value $18.99
Since this subscription is all about showcasing Israeli companies, this card game fits in perfectly:
“Each card shows a beautiful flower from The Land of Israel with information, including the name of each flower in English, Latin and Hebrew and the English, Latin and Hebrew family name.”
The rules seem to be a sort of Go Fish situation, where players are trying to complete series of flowers by picking up, or asking other players. You can certainly learn a lot from this game!
Guri Linero Artisanal 3D Flower Stickers – Value $3.99?
You all know I love stickers, and even though these aren’t quite my style, they are really colorful and fun. Guri Linero works with local designers to come up with innovative art products, available on her site. I couldn’t find this exact style for sale there, so I took a guess at the value based on similar stickers I’ve come across.
Verdict: I’m not sure if I’ll end up playing the flower game or using the stickers, but the ceramic bowl and candle this month were both crafted well, so I’ll put them to good use. After the $11 shipping to the US, this box costs $38, and I estimated the items added up to a value of just under $60! I love that Earth Wax and Fire is getting Israel-based wares out into the world a little at a time, and it’s fun to see which combination will come each month!
