Stitch Fix for Men Clothing Subscription Box Review – May 2017
Note from Liz: I’m so happy to introduce our newest reviewer to the MSA team! Welcome, Rob!
In addition to women’s styling, Stitch Fix recently added a men’s clothing subscription box service that is focused around vamping up the style in your everyday wardrobe. When signing up, you take a pretty in-depth survey so your stylist gets a handle on what you’re looking for. Questions range from your occupation, your personal style, sizing, pricing preference and so on. You can even send them your Instagram or Facebook so they can get an even more personal feel for whom you are. After you pick the date of when you’d like to receive your fix, the stylist handpicks 5 items and sends you your shipment. The fee for this service is $20, and that includes free shipping and free returns. And if you keep any of the items they send you, you get to deduct the $20 fee from the total. (If you keep all five items, you also get a 25% discount!)
My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)
The Subscription Box: Stitch Fix
The Cost: $20 styling fee (pay for whatever items you keep minus the $20 credit)
The Products: 5 clothing and accessory items selected for you based on your Style Profile.
Ships to: U.S. only
Keep Track of Your Subscriptions: Add this box to your subscription list or wishlist!
This is my detailed invoice noting the products that are in my box, the sizing, and cost of each item. Total cost to keep all five items, minus the $20 styling fee and 25% discount would cost: $172.75– Average cost per piece is $35 and total discount of $64.25.
The box also included some cards with styling suggestions along with a little note from my stylist on how they would pair each piece. I really enjoyed this as it gave me some different ideas on what to wear with!
For anything you plan to return, Stitch Fix instructs you to complete a checkout process online so they know what to expect coming back, and it also allows you to provide feedback about the items. They include a USPS prepaid mailing bag in your box too. You just pack up the items you don’t want and drop the bag off at your post office.
Cohen Slim Leg Jean by ROHM – Cost to keep: $68
To start with a positive, the denim quality is great and I really enjoy the dark wash. The fit however, despite being called slim, is not the case at all here. They were large throughout and more of a boot cut leg. I’ll be sure to mention to my stylist that I like a more slim fit with a tapered fit at the ankles.
Baseline Long Sleeve Henley by Threads 4 Thought – Cost to keep: $48
I love this Henley! The color, the fit and especially the side panel detail. It really makes the shirt feel a little more unique compared to similar styles out in the market. I also really like and respect the brand, Threads 4 Thought. They use sustainable and environmentally friendly materials to produce their clothing and that is something that’s pretty important to me. I do have something similar to this already in my closet, so this is going back.
Richmond Classic Crew Light 2-Pack Socks by Stance – Cost to keep: $24
The feel of these socks are very nice. The quality is high, the material is thick-combed cotton and I enjoy the color combo on both pairs. The pricing, however, is a little a little high in my opinion so these are going back.
Vintage Oxford Long Sleeve Shirt by Hawker Rye – Cost to keep: $58
This button up is extremely well made. The quality of the 100% cotton fabric has a great feel and is very comfortable! I do have something quite similar to this in my closet though, so it doesn’t make sense to keep. I will however communicate how much I like the fit and feel of the garment to my stylist so they can send similar products in future shipments.
Donny Reversible Tee by Tailor Vintage – Cost to keep: $59
I received this reversible tee in my last Stitch Fix shipment and fell in love with the color and versatility of it. The sizing was a bit small (original size Medium), so I asked my stylist to send a size Large in this months box to see if we could find a winning fit. Sadly we did not; the Large is a bit too big throughout the entire tee! Pretty bummed that this has to go back.
Verdict: I very much enjoyed all of the Stylists picks and the quality of the garments but there were quite a few fit issues this month. I’ll be sure to communicate these concerns on my feedback form and hopefully, we can find some winners next month!
