Upon subscribing, you'll take a "style survey," so Rocksbox can suggest jewelry pieces that fit your style. You can also browse their catalog and add pieces to your wishlist. Each month, Rocksbox will curate sets of three pieces to send your way, including at least one piece from your wishlist.

Try on the items in the box, and wear them as long as you'd like. From there, you have two choices. If you love any of the pieces enough to want to keep them, you can put your $10 monthly "Shine Credit" towards your purchase. Or, if you're ready for another style, return your box using the free shipping label and reusable envelope you got with your shipment. Shortly after, you'll get a brand new box of jewelry to enjoy!

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

I had a lot of fun scrolling through the Rocksbox site, adding jewelry to my wishlist. The site has lots of products, from subtle pieces to bold statement makers. From what I saw, though, everything has a relatively modern feel to it. If you've got a slightly fresher, edgier aesthetic, there's probably a lot for you here. If you're looking for pearls and more traditional, romantic pieces, Rocksbox might not satisfy your style.

This little booklet reveals what picks made it into this month's set and includes a note from my stylist, explaining what's special about these picks. I noticed that this month, I have a different stylist than last month. I would've assumed that once I was assigned a stylist, I'd continue to have that one stylist throughout my subscription. It's not a big deal if that's not the case, especially since all the pieces I received were ones that I had put on my wishlist (where you can list the jewelry you know you'd like). I added a lot of items to my wishlist, and since Rocksbox prioritizes what's on your wishlist, it'll probably be a while before I need official "styling."

They include some care instructions on the back of the booklet. That's particularly helpful if you're planning to return the pieces (since they should be in good condition when you do so), but these things are also handy if you're going to keep the jewelry. I can get lazy about how I store and care for my jewelry, so I need these tips on how to keep it looking its best.

Everything comes in cute, individual, velvety bags.

Slate Etched in Stone Pendant Necklace in Marbled White - Member's Price $58.00

This necklace is so cool! It's kind of a crisp, modern interpretation of a boho pendant.

Check out my review of the May 2017 Rocksbox!

I love the shape of the pendant and its gold detail. Everything is very crisp and geometric, but the branch-like shape of the gold element and the swirling patterns of the stone give the piece an organic vibe.

It hangs pretty low on me, which is an effortless look I like for summer.

The next pick also came in its own velvety-soft pouch.

Kris Nations Hundred Studs in Gold - Member Price $36.00

Oh, how I love these earrings! I'm such a fan of cheeky fashion pieces like this—two seconds after I saw them in the Rocksbox catalog, they were on my wishlist. These emoji-inspired studs are light as a feather, simple enough to wear every day, and most importantly, just so irreverent and cool!

Check out my review of the May 2017 Rocksbox!

Be aware that they are pretty teeny tiny, though! These earrings are the kind of thing that will make people look twice—not the kind of thing that will turn heads right off the bat.

The final item in the box has a special pouch... because it's by Kate Spade! I love this brand, so I'm thrilled.

Kate Spade Square Studs in Grey - Member's Price $38.00

What I like about Kate Spade is how her classic and refined pieces always feature playful, unexpected details. If these studs were plain white or a more typical gemstone color, I don't think they would've caught my eye. But the cool gray color is unconventional and awesome.

Unlike the Hundred Earrings, these studs are on the heavy side. I'm thankful that the backings are bigger to help them feel more stable.

They're super pretty though! I feel really classy wearing them!

Verdict: Another awesome set from Rocksbox! For $21.00 a month (+ free shipping), I got $132.00 of really unique jewelry that perfectly suited my style. And I can wear these pieces as long as I'd like! I can buy what I'd like to keep (and use the "Shine Credit" I get each month to keep the cost down), or send things back when I'm tired of them—and get a new set to play with. I think my favorite thing about this subscription is that you have some control and foresight into what you're going to get, thanks to the wishlist tool. Or I can just let Rocksbox choose for me if I want.

Do you get charged for the first box or is it free for the first one?

I just wanted to point out that I feel like this subscription box is misleading and I’m canceling as soon as I put the box in the mail. The jewelry is not at a discounted member price. I checked the price of the 2 Kate Spade items I received and they are exactly the same price as their “member price” on Nordstrom’s website. I’d rather just buy it from them new if it’s the same price.

Has anyone bought their sale pieces? (That is, not the items you were sent but you browsed their sale page and bought something at a much reduced price)??

I ask because you are buying something that is used, but that you do not have in hand to check the quality. they make a bid deal about the items not being returnable. So how can you tell if it is “too used” for your preferences if you don’t see before buying? This is confusing to me.

One of my favorite boxes. Love the jewelry. I have also bought quite a bit from their sale store.

Shine credits do NOT roll over, you must use them within one month. Check the Rocksbox website FAQ section for more official info, it could be a different amount of time, I just know they don’t roll over from month to month. Unfortunately.

Another question: When you write, “Member’s Price,” is that the cost of the jewelry minus the shine credit? Or is the shine credit an additional 10.00 off the member’s price? And yes, can you tell us if shine credits roll over? Thanks for the great review, Anna. This looks like a cool subscription.

Leslie

Sorry for the repeat question about the shine credit roll over? The replies had not yet shown up on my screen. So the member’s price is the price you would pay with the $21.00 already deducted. Thanks for the info.

VeronicaLM

The Shine credit is actually $21 and is only valid for a month and does not ad up. You can only use it once every 30 days and then it just expires and if you don’t use it you just get a new $21 Shine credit that is used to purchase any of the 3 pieces from your set and if you buy all three pieces you get an extra $10 off.

Donna

This is probably a stupid question but do you know about Rockbox’s sanitizing process? I don’t know how I’d feel using earrings someone else has used.

Reply ButtonReply

VeronicaLM

I sanitize the earrings as I do not know how they do it. They may use heat as alcohol is damaging. I’ve wondered the same thing but it’s the same as if you were to get from a store or from a swap is the way I look at it.

AmyM

I was wondering the same thing, Donna.

TheSonorista

Do the Shine Credits add up if you don’t buy something, or does it roll over each month?

Reply ButtonReply

Carolann

The Shine Credits do not accrue from month-to-month.

Reply ButtonReply

VeronicaLM

It does not roll over it just expires. You actually get a $21 Shine credit. They just increased it a couple months ago and the credit it to purchase items from your set.
