Goodbeing Box Subscription Review – May 2017

Liz Cadman
ByLiz CadmanMay 18, 2017 | 31 comments

Good Being box is a natural and organic beauty box. Each month you'll receive a box customized to your beauty profile. (This is a box that will have some variation between subscribers.)

You also get to pick two of your products each month!

My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

The Subscription Box: Good Being Box

The Cost: $21 a month

The Products: Eco-friendly beauty and wellness products.

Ships to: US only.

Check out my Good Being reviews and the Eco-friendly Subscription Box Directory for similar boxes!

Every box comes with cards detailing each product.

Now, onto the items!

NOTO Multi Benne Tint Lips + Eyes + Cheeks - .07 oz Value $18

This was my first product pick for the month.

The full-size version of this comes in a jar, but I prefer the stick - so much better for applying to your lips! It's made with natural and organic ingredients, and the peppermint flavor was a nice surprise! It's a pretty bold red for my lips, but it blends easily. I think I'll use it primarily as a cheek stain. Here it is swatched:

Pure Glam Dry Shampoo - FULL SIZE! Value $22

(I'm 95% sure this was my second product pick this month!)

This dry shampoo powder is gluten-free and vegan. It's scented with essential oil of palmarosa and smells lovely. One word of caution if you have darker hair like I do - this is a white powder, so if you accidentally over-sprinkle it on your hair, it will look at a little gray!

Unwind Rest & Relax Herbal Oil - 5 oz Value $12.50

This oil is made with lavender and chamomile - exactly what I would expect in a relaxing oil! They recommend you apply it to your temples, chest, and back of the neck.

HoneyBee Gardens Truly Natural Mascara - FULL SIZE! Value $13

This mascara is gluten-free, vegan, and made in the USA. I like the ingredients, but the formula didn't work for me. It provides great lash color and good lash definition, but length and volume were pretty much nonexistent for me.

If you're looking for a mascara that gives you a natural look, this is good. But, I personally like as much drama as I can get with a mascara!

Previse Hyaluronic Moisturizer - FULL SIZE! Value $48

I'm used to foaming cleansers, but foaming moisturizers?! This is new territory for me! Again, the ingredients are great for this product, and I love that it is fragrance-free. The foam is so lightweight and takes a minute or two to absorb, so at first, it just feels like you have water on your face. But eventually, it absorbed and left my skin feeling hydrated.

(Also, full size!)

Verdict: This box has a value of about $113. That's incredible for a $21 natural beauty box, especially when you consider that Good Being lets you pick two of your samples every month. FYI - my typical box value is usually closer to $50, so do not sign up if you are expecting to receive over $100 worth of product every month. (This was just a really good month!)

What do you think of the May Good Being Box? Which products did you pick this month?

Did they recently change the prices? I just signed up (in early May) for my first box (the June box) – and am so excited! I went back to look at the site today, and it seems that it’s changed? I signed up for the 3 month subscription for $60, and that’s no longer available unless you’re purchasing a gift (in which case, it’s now almost $74. I was looking to switch to their monthly sub (with the option to deliver every other month) when my 3 months runs out, but I don’t see anything like that anymore either. I’m kind of sad… and don’t see any news about it anywhere (and nothing in my email). Does anyone know what’s going on? Thanks!!!

Hi Anna – We have recently increased our price for new members to $24.95 a month, or, $21.95 a box with a pre-paid annual plan. As an existing member, you have options though, so be sure to reach out to us at [email protected] so we can help 🙂

Is this the “beauty” box or “lifestyle”? I don’t want makeup, yet contents of the boxes on the site show mascara in both!

Goodbeing

Hi Jaq – This could be either, however for both, you have the option to opt out of receiving make-up 🙂 We look at all member profiles in assigning products each month. Feel free to reach out with any other questions!

Do they ever have full size frangrances?

Reply ButtonReply

Goodbeing

Hi Sheila – Thanks for the question. We usually do not have full size fragrances in our boxes. As a trial & discovery service, our aim is to provide a meaningful supply of products to help members assess whether it’s a good fit for them. With scents, a smaller sample is usually enough to do so. I hope that helps 🙂

For my choice items, I picked the stick thing Liz got in the highlighter color (I was tempted by the blue one, but would probably have been clueless how to use it!) and a serum from Blissoma (which is, like, the best skincare ever! And Goodbeing introduced me to them originally!) My box isn’t here yet…..and I just checked, those picks are for June!

I would say that $50 average value per box is a low estimate by Liz. It obviously varies by person/profile, but mine is generally in the $80+ range. They often include one or more full size item — most recently I received a huge, full size Previse serum and, in a separate box, a B True Beauty eyelash enhancer formula.

I’ve been trying to decide between this and satva Box for awhile, and the products in satva seem more my style but the prepay only option keeps me from signing up. If I start with this one and decide to switch can it just be cancelled?

Luna

Yes, it’s very easy to cancel. I believe you have to email them to cancel, and they’re very quick to respond.

This is my favorite sub. The quality of the the products is excellent. Many of the items I’ve received I will order to replace the ones I usually buy. I particularly appreciate being able to select samples of vitamins or nutritional powder.

Goodbeing

Thank you so much D! We love hearing this. Mission accomplished!

I was all set to get this box but now seeing you wouldn’t get this one and the value isn’t usually there I guess I’ll be passing 🙁

Goodbeing

Hi Kimberly – As Liz stated and a few members, the retail value of the box does vary quite a bit each month. Some months are pretty high like this one, others are closer to the $40-50 mark – but always more than you’ve paid. Our main goal is to provide value in the form of healthier products that perform well, made by brands who really care, 1-2 of which you get to choose each month, and a high level of customization in every box. Shipping is always free and most brands include special offers for when you find things you love. I hope that helps 🙂

Kimberly, the value is ALWAYS there – it’s usually just not five times the cost, as with this month. I usually get a value of about $60 in my boxes. This is my absolute favorite box, since you can choose two of your five items each month, and like others have said, they really pay attention to your profile. Their customer service is exceptional. I highly recommend you give them a try!

Kimberly

Thank you for the opinion Andi! I had reached out to customer service this morning so hopefully they’ll be good. I had a horrible experience with Birchbook and I keep coming back to this one but I just haven’t pulled the trigger yet! Do they ever give any sort of spoilers?

Andi

My box was similarly awesome. I received the Bella Aura antioxidant moisturizer (along with the Previse foaming one you also received), so it was my highest value box yet.

Did they ship your box via UPS this month? They did for me, and I got my box in a couple of days, rather than ten days. When I inquired about this, they said they were testing out some shipping options. I was thrilled to not have to wait as long as usual!

The relax oil looks amazing. I clicked on the link and everything in that Etsy site looks so nice. They make such lovely products. This is a great box this month. Even when the value is around $50 this box is consistent great. Another sub I need!!!

Taren

Is it too late to get this box if I sign up now?

Reply ButtonReply

Lil

I would email them and ask! It’s been awhile, but when I first subscribed it was after they had a full size 100 Percent Pure mascara in non-black. When I saw that in a review, I emailed to ask there was any way I could get that box and they said yes!

They do things a little differently now, but I’d ask if you can start with this month, and if there is one particular product you are hoping to get I would ask for that too. If they can accommodate you, they will!

Jann

You won’t get this box. Each month they send out a selection list where you get to pick two items and the rest of the box is tailored to your beauty profile. You might get some of the same items, but there is no way to tell what you will get. I don’t think you get to select any of the items in your first box.

vanessa

What’s sort frustrating about reading these reviews is there’s no way to guarantee you get the same box (which is usually awesome.)

Jess

Yes, you would get the June box instead. Also, there is some variation among subscribers as to what you will get. Partly because you can pick different items (selection is pretty good; usually about 15 different items you can pick a total of two from) but also because you take a survey about what kind of items you use, shade of your skin and eye color etc. You may still be sent items you may not typically use because it’s a discovery service (i.e. I received the same mascara this month as I never use mascara), but this is the start of my second year with them and I have loved every box I’ve received from them. I really recommend trying them.

Thank you for sharing great details about how it works Jess and for being a long term member!

Nicole

Oh wow! That looks like an incredible box this month! I hope I receive the previce moisturizer too- fingers crossed!
