Now, onto the items!

SkinFix Foaming Clay Cleanser - 1 oz Value $4.40

(Good to know for swaps - this has a difficult-to-remove foil seal)

SkinFix is one of my favorite drugstrore beauty brands (thanks, Target Beauty Box, for getting me hooked), and this formula is just as lovely as I expected. It's a gentle, creamy clay cleanser that foams, and it has a relaxing cucumber scent, too.

It really feels like a luxe beauty treat - if this was a blind packaging test, I would have believed you if you told me the full size version retailed for $30 or more.

This Works Stress Check Breath In Roll On - 5 ml Value $18.75

The full-size version of this is only 3 ml more, so this is a great size!

It's made with a 100% natural essential oil blend, and the lavender and eucalyptus scents pop the most for me.

To use it, roll it over the pulse points on your wrists and take a few deep breaths! (I think this would work well pre-sleep, too.)

Drunk Elephant Umbra Sheer Physical Defense SPF 30 – 15 ml Value $5.60

Drunk Elephant is one of those skincare brands that doesn't show up in subscription boxes often, so it's always a treat when you get a sample! I would have loved this to be a higher value sample like a moisturizer or a serum, but their sunscreen is new-to-me, so I'm happy to try it.

If you aren't familiar with the brand, they are known for ingredient conscious beauty products, and this sunscreen is made without any chemical sunscreens. And the formula itself is good too - it absorbed quickly into my skin, with little to no greasy feeling.

Kneipp Lavender Body Oil (Travel Size) Value $6

(Subscribers will receieve this scent or Almond, or Safflower & Olive Body Oil.)

I love lavender anything, so this body oil is a hit with me. And a few drops go a long way, so this bottle should actually last for a while.

Doucce Freematic Eyeshadow in (22) Jody - Value $8

Allure Beauty Box is sending this Doucce Eye Shadow Quad to all subscribers with these eyeshadows:

And every few months, they will be sending all subscribers a new pan to switch into your palette!

FYI – if you are a new subscriber, you will receive this palette in a separate shipment from your first Allure Beauty Box.

Here is the latest shade swatched:

It's a light, lilac shimmer, and I like that it's a little different than the types of eyeshadow colors I usually get in boxes!

Luxie Taper Blending Brush 205 - Value $12

I love my pink + rose gold Luxie brushes! (And I have quite a collection now thanks to subscription boxes!)

This brush has fluffy, soft bristles perfect for blending out your crease or edges of your eyeshadow.

Verdict: This box has a value of about $55. That's good for a $15 beauty box, and I really like the brands this month. The sample sizes are good, too. (And I just love that SkinFix cleanser - I will need to buy it in full size!)

What do you think of the May Allure Beauty Box?

This box is regularly $15 a month, but you can use this link to save $5 off your first box. (If you sign up before the end of May, your first box will be the May box.)

You'll also get this eyeshadow palette for FREE:

When did everyone get the eyeshadow palette? I’ve been a subscriber for several months and have been getting the refills each month, but never got the palette.

Renee

The palette first came out in the January 2017 box. You should have received it then if you were a subscriber, but if you subscribed after that month you would have received it in the month you subscribed. It would have arrived in a separate package in that case

I really liked this box when I got it, but I just tried the eyeshadow for the first time. No matter how much I tried, with a brush or my finger, there is almost no pigment. Super disappointed that such a pretty color doesn’t show up.

I love every single thing in this box. I usually can’t say that for Ipsy, Birchbox, glossybox, or Sephora. So I’m very happy that I decided to sub to Allure. June’s box looks great too and I can’t wait to get it!

I left allure a few months ago and decided to come back when I saw the free doucce eye shadow palette offer. Also, I wasn’t sure if I qualified for it cause I was technically NOT a first time subscriber. I called allure customer service to also resubscribe to the allure magazine for $5.00. They also assured me I would get the free tote that I was suppose to get the first time and it never came. So, they said they would run it through as tho I was a first time subscriber to get eye shadow palette, first box for $10.00 and magazine subscription for $5.00 and free tote!! I will never leave allure again!!!

Does everyone get the same box? If not, what are the variations like? I quit GlossyBox when they started their great value disparity.

So my sunscreen came exploded all over the box and empty, so I contacted costumer service. Has anyone had this problem before/what did they do (if anything) to fix it?

This box is amazing. I love every single item. I didn’t think I’d like the eyeshadow, but it’s a lot less pink and more sheer than it looks. So it makes a good brow highlight or base. The this works oil is amazing. I use it before bed and it really is relaxing. That luxie brush is amazing. It’s so fluffy and perfect. I love the cleanser and have been hoping for some screen, and drunk elephant is an awesome brand. Seriously, I’m thinking of ordering another box.

I totally agree with you, I love this box! I was very pleasantly surprised by all of the items and also surprised and happy to get six great items rather than just five. The eyeshadow is beautiful, I don’t know what everyone is complaining about. The body oil smells delicious and works really well on my dry skin. I used the skin fix cleanser and the DE sunscreen today and really liked them both. Happy to add another Luxie brush to my set, especially this beautiful, fluffy blending brush.

Meh, still not mad I cancelled

Got my box today. It was filled nicely w/ everything included. I got the safflower & olive Kneipp oil. I like and will use all items, esp. the Skinfix Clay Cleanser!

I loved April, but not this one, a complete miss. Luckily I paused in time!

Jeanine

Pause that sounds like a fabulous idea!! Allure is turning into a bunch of stuff I put in my junk box!! come on allure, get it together…keep up with the Jonses (i.e. IPSY, boxycharm, New Beauty, etc)

Jill

My May box is on its way and I can’t wait to get it! BTW…I finally tried the Lakur Londontown nail polish and its absolutely gorgeous!!! I got get more for sure.

Tiffany

I’m definitely picking up this up next week!

I had zero interest in the April box, so I put my box on hold for that month. Then I saw the review of this box and was really excited, so I called to take my subscription off hold. I asked the CS rep specifically if I would get the May box, and she said I would. I was so excited when I found out my box was delivered, but when I opened it, it was April. 🙁 Ugh! So I listed at least 2 of the items so far on the swap site. Surprise, surprise, there are a ton of those items listed, and virtually no followers. Looks like I might have some albatrosses on my hands.

Reply ButtonReply

Jeannie

Out of curiosity, when did you take your sub off hold?

Reply ButtonReply

Elena

I guess RV of This Works Stress Check Breath In Roll On is only $10 (full size 8 ml costs $16).

Reply ButtonReply

Michelle

Of course I cancelled last month and this box would have been a total step up from the last 6 or so. Just too many misses for me. Not sorry I cancelled.

Reply ButtonReply

Michelle

Very tempting to get this box. Much better than their usual month. I’ve never been tempted to get this sub until now.

Reply ButtonReply

Laverna

Liz ~ Did you try the Drunk Elephant Suncreen under foundation? If so, how did it work out?

Reply ButtonReply

Mandi

I cancelled and didn’t get march, but I got the gilt city deal on sale and paid $9 and change for each box in total so I’m excited. I’m not completely sure they’re sending the May box, but I hope they do. I really wanna try drunk elephant and I know I’ll use the roll on oil.

Reply ButtonReply

Mary

I missed the gilt deal. When was it?

Reply ButtonReply

Mandi

It was last month, it ended the 24th. It was 29 plus 9.99 shipping, but I got $10 off so it was cheaper. It was 3 months plus the eyeshadow palette and a year of the allure mag, no tax.

Luna

I received the palette like everybody else in January(?), and I cancelled my annual sub in February. I decided to re-sub for a couple of months last week (I think the April box was just shipped to me which is fine), but they’re also sending me another palette too! I received a separate shipping email specifically telling me they’re shipping that palette to me separate from the beauty box that was just shipped. I just thought I’d mention it in case someone already got the palette and like it, un-subscribed, is on the fence about re-subscribing, and would like to receive a 2nd palette (for themselves or to gift).

Jaime Johanson Burke

My box is completely different? WTF?

Reply ButtonReply

Luna

Are you a new subscriber? If so, then you probably received the April box. What’s in it? Who knows, maybe it could be some sort of bonus box too. I don’t think Allure has done a bonus box in a while, but they have been known to send them out to random subscribers.

This is the 1st month I’m disappointed. 5 months in & this is the box I’d say is mostly stuff I won’t use or don’t like – I can’t roll my eyes hard enough at that stress roller ball thingy. WTF? That orchid coloured shadow, unlike the quad, is hideous & I’m probably light skinned enough to pull it off. I pray I don’t get the lavender scented oil too, otherwise that’s also getting tossed.

At (the very) least I’ll have a new cleanser & sunscreen to try & I will never say no to more Luxie brushes! Worth $15 though? Not even close. Allure & Birchbox are on life support after May.

Reply ButtonReply

ReneeH

Ditto, Birchbox and Allure are probably going soon for me too. Birchbox put me in the beta box, so I will give that a chance for June and see how it goes. Ipsy and Sephora are so far ahead of these ( in the $10 range), it’s not even funny.

Reply ButtonReply

vanessa

As of today, I’m sub’ed to 10 beauty boxes. Based on spoilers, reviews & coupons – Allure & Sephora are the likely candidates to get axed. So many more better curated boxes with better RV out there!

I’m into BB beta for a year, so I’m giving them a little more leeway. For now.

Chrystal

I feel the same, both Allure and Birchbox are definitely on life support!

Reply ButtonReply

Chrystal

I was honestly hoping that the boxes would improve after the $10 Black Friday deal had run its course. My Ipsy bag for May even blows this one out of the water. I signed up during the May Allure debacle from last year and this doesn’t even feel like the same subscription 😩

Reply ButtonReply

Mary K

Don’t lose hope yet. The BF deal actually concludes with this May box, not April. Allure has been my fave box for almost 3 years now and it’s only been the past 3-4 months they’ve slipped in quality. This month is slightly better than last’s, at least. Hopefully June will be quite a bit better & get back to the old Allure I loved. (No more Doucce eyeshadows would be a nice start!) 😀

Reply ButtonReply

Veronica

I just re subscribed to Allure last month. I really hope i get the Drunk elephant, if i don’t get it or at least the makeup brush. Then I’m done with Allure , they are consistently underwhelming. I guess i expected more from them since i love there Magazine.

Reply ButtonReply

Jeannie

Does anyone know if I renew my subscription now, would I get the May box or the April?

Reply ButtonReply

Janel

Whatever month you subscribe in that is the month you will get, starting May 1st you will get the May box and so on. Unless it is already sold out. So you would get the May.

Reply ButtonReply

Jeannie

Thanks for the info!

Katy

Even though I already have that Luxie brush, I am still really happy I decided to sub this month. I can’t wait to have my box and the palette.

Reply ButtonReply

Taren

Omgosh, now THIS is a nice box!! I just cancelled in March after their boxes were getting progressively worse and then they come out with an awesome box. I can’t win, lol!

Reply ButtonReply

Beth L

Hahaha so true right. I bet yoi next month will be even better… I signed back up for Ipsy to get the It Cosmetics Palette and because you can request a sample each month now….

Ipsy has been blowing all other Subs out of the water lately. They’ve let me pick an item for each of my last 3 Glam bags and their email Customer Service is so friendly. In addition my bags have been great. I’ve loved everything they picked for me!!! ❤
