Defy the Stars by Claudia Gray - Retail Value $17.99 (On Amazon for $10.58)
Book Summary from Amazon:
She's a soldier.
Noemi Vidal is seventeen years old and sworn to protect her planet, Genesis. She's willing to risk anything--including her own life. To their enemies on Earth, she's a rebel.
He's a machine.
Abandoned in space for years, utterly alone, Abel has advanced programming that's begun to evolve. He wants only to protect his creator, and to be free. To the people of Genesis, he's an abomination.
Noemi and Abel are enemies in an interstellar war, forced by chance to work together as they embark on a daring journey through the stars. Their efforts would end the fighting for good, but they're not without sacrifice. The stakes are even higher than either of them first realized, and the more time they spend together, the more they're forced to question everything they'd been taught was true.
This book gets excellent reviews, and it grabbed my attention on the first page! I have a feeling I'll be finishing it within 24 hours!
And this book came with a promotional magnet, too.
Ink & Wonder Bookmark - Value $7
This bookmark is a thin strip of wood with the colorful design printed on it. I especially love the watercolor blue background - it is light enough to let the wood grain show through.
Paladone Hogwarts Notebook - Value $14
I love all things Harry Potter, so this item was a lovely surprise!
It has 100 lined pages inside:
Unfortunately, the corners of the notebook got a bit bent in shipping so it isn't in pristine condition, but I know that would have happened with a matter of days keeping it in my backpack so it doesn't make that much difference to me.
Verdict: This box has a value of about $32. (Using the Amazon sale price of the book.) That's just over the cost of the box, which I think is fair for any book box. Also, I know for a lot of readers there is extra value in getting a book that is signed every month!
I'm almost always happy with this subscription. I think the curation is great, and it seems like my taste in YA books is similar to Lisa's so that works out very well!
