Each box comes with an insert card, but the contents of the box are not included. The theme for the month of February is, “Self-Love Starter Kit”. This month’s products assist me in looking my best and taking time for me.

Doucce Freematic Eye Shadow Palette – Value $35.00

This magnetic removable eye shadow palette comes in shimmer and matte shadows. There are over 82 shades to choose from to complete your palette. The eyeshadow can go on wet or dry. Unfortunately, the palette didn’t come with the double-sided brush, but luckily, I had brushes on hand. It was hard to adhere enough product to the brush I was using but after enough tries, I had enough shadow to apply to my eye lids. I don’t wear eye makeup often, except for mascara and liner, so it may have been the wrong brush to use. I like the idea of changing out the palette with different shades to suit your mood or outfit. I will be checking out other shades that I can add to the palette.

Doucce Punk Volumizer Mascara – Value $24.99

This mascara lengthened and gave volume to my lashes with no clumping. I applied one coat and could see the volume in my lashes and after two coats my lashes were more visible. From Doucce:

The jumbo brush fiber bristles are cut smaller and larger, in succession, to coat every lash, while distributing the formula evenly throughout the lashes.

Black Radiance Matte Lip Crème– Bronze Sugar- Value $3.99

I don’t wear matte lipstick so this was an interesting experience. My lips felt dry and the lip crème had a weird texture. I can’t describe in words, but it just felt awkward with this product on my lips. My first try I dabbed Estee Edit Flash Photo Gloss on top for a slightly glossy finish and my second try I didn’t apply anything on top of the matte lip crème. The color was flattering so it will take some time to adjust to wearing a matte lipstick.

Here are the swatches of the lip crème and eye shadows.

Here I am wearing the mascara, shadows on my lid, and the matte lip crème.

5 Steps to Lovely Skin: Complete Facial Solution– Value $8.00

This is a 5-step facial kit for a home spa day or on the go and is completely packaged together for my convenience. The steps consist of a cleanser, ampoule, sheet mask, moisturizer, and neck cream. The entire process is about 25minutes. Step 1 cleanses with foam cleanser. Step 2 is to treat with ampoule and let it soak in. Step 3 pampers with the sheet mask. Step 4 moisturizes with the facial cream and step 5 nourishes with the neck cream. I love facial products and sheet masks and this kit delivered. I especially like how there are products that cater to my neck which I make a habit to target in my daily facial routine.

Nail Polish in Zuma Beach Bum – Value $18.00

This pastel polish states it’s chip resistant and long lasting. From Lauren B. Beauty:

Each formula is non-toxic, eco- and vegan-friendly (with no formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, DBP, toluene or camphor), TPHP free, and proudly made in the USA.

I usual wear nude colors or bold reds and mauves on my toe nails so, this color is not suited for me but may be best for others. My mom’s favorite color is yellow so I will be passing this polish on to her.

Pinback Button – Value?

I received this small pinback button with “Non-Conformist. Free Thinker, Wild Woman. Black.” printed on the front of the button.

Verdict: We Are Onyx Beauty Box has a value of $89.98 (not including the pin), which is an incredible value for a $25.00 box.  I enjoyed trying new products, old favorites, and to have colors that suite and flatter my complexion is a bonus.  My favorite items in the February box are the 5 Step to Healthy Skin Kit and the volumizing Mascara. I look forward to exploring new products that are out of my comfort zone and I can’t wait to see what’s in next month’s box.

  1. This box looks great, just like the Essence boxes were great. However, this box has the same amount of items but costs $10 more. Can someone explain the cost difference to me? I was an Essence subscriber so I don’t want to pay more than I was unless it’s made clear why. Thanks.

  2. Nice review!! My favorite item was the matte lipstick. And that color really looks great on you! Two thumbs way up!

  3. Nichelle, did you use the eye pallete wet or dry? I think if used wet they might have adhered to the brush better and even a brighter on your eyes? I think the lip swatch was beautiful, the trick with mattes is making sure your lips are exfoliated. Love the review, thank you, thinking about subscribing to this box.

    • I highly recommend this box. This month is my third month and I have not been disappointed yet. I subscribe to lots of beauty boxes and this is easily top 5, maybe top 3. It’s a great assortment of nice shades and quality of makeup, skin, and hair.

    • I applied shadow dry that would explain it. Thanks for the tips, will try palette wet and make sure to exfoliate lips prior to applying matte lipstick.

  4. Nichelle, did u use the facial before u took that picture of yourself because your skin looks amazing & u look beautiful especially with that matte lip color!! So pretty!

    • Yes, thank you 😊

  5. I love that matte shade on you! Beautiful!

    • Thank You, Loba 😊

  6. Like this box. I used to sub to Onyx but stopped because the products were very random. Have seen a change and may go back. Thanks for the review.

    • 😊

    • Receiving totally random things is actually why I really like Onyx Box. 🙂 It’s always a surprise. It sort of reminds me of the randomness of BB5.
