The Capital Candy Jar Chocolate Covered Oreo Cookies (2.7 oz) – Value $6
These are almost too cute to eat. I gave them to my husband (who doesn’t care about food cuteness) because they contain high fructose corn syrup, which gives me hives. He says if you like Oreos, you will like these.
Quin Smith Tea Lord Bergamot Caramels (10 pieces, 3.2 oz) – Value $6.67 (buy 15 pieces for $10 on Quin)
These are delicious. They honestly don’t taste a lot like tea or bergamot to me, but I just like caramels. They don’t stick in your teeth too badly, either.
G + H Tea Services Darjeeling Tea Strainer – Value $3.50
I can only find this exact item on eBay, but the price there seems reasonable based on what you get. I have not tried making individual cups of tea using a tea strainer before but I do see some benefits already – for example, it is easier to clean out than one of the ball-shaped mesh strainers.
Nepal Tea Company Kumari Gold (1.7 oz) – Value $12.99
Although I like fancy flavored teas, sometimes I just want plain black, and this delivers. This is grown in the foothills of Mt. Kanchanjangha and supposedly has a high volume of essential oils. I don’t think my palate is sophisticated enough to detect the caramel and baked fruit flavors (!), but it is a great tea. I am keeping it at work where it will probably be gone before the end of the week.
Here are the tea leaves and a shot of the brewed tea.
Verdict: I calculated a value of $29.16 for the March Tea Box Express. That is a reasonable value considering the price of the subscription plus shipping. If you sign up for a longer subscription or use our MSA20 coupon, the value is a little better. I would say this was a fairly typical month from Tea Box Express (you don’t always get two food items, though). I personally like the discovery aspect of this subscription – there are dozens upon dozens of little tea companies out there and it is hard to even know where to begin. Plus so many of them have shipping charges or minimum orders. Tea Box Express takes some of the guesswork out!
What did you think of Tea Box Express? Do you get any tea subscriptions?
