Switch will always use USPS First Class mail to send your jewelry unless it weighs more than 1 pound. Each package comes with a prepaid USPS return label so you can leave your return for your mail carrier or drop it off at the post office if you're the nervous type (like me!)

When you sign up for Switch, you take a look at all the pieces in their collection and select your favorites. They then match your picks with what they have available and send you the number of pieces that match the plan you've chosen. You choose from actual items in their collection and not just something in a similar style.

This month I was looking for some statement earrings. I received a pair of simple, classy clip-on earrings and a pair of bold, dangly earrings.

Delfina Delettrez Gold, Pearl, and Enamel Earring - Value $550, Member Price $545

I've been wanting to rent this earring for a while and was so excited to see it back in stock! I love the idea of a special single earring, plus the eye design is great. It is made of 9 karat gold with green and white enamel and a pearl closure. This is a bold, playful, and uniquely stylish piece.

Switch-february-2017-0007

The earring came in a velvet drawstring bag.

Switch-february-2017-0010

Unlike typical earrings that you push through from front to back, this one goes through the back to the front and is secured with a pearl piece.

Switch-february-2017-0011

This earring was comfortable to wear and my kind of bold. I really love this piece and how the gold and green look with my hair color. This is the kind of item that you can pair with a denim jacket just as easily as a velvet dress.

Vita Fede Mini Titan Two Tone Bracelet - Value $275, Member Price $192.50

This is a great rose gold bracelet decorated with black spikes. This is an item I could see myself wearing every day, the black accent works so well with most of my wardrobe - which is also black! The spikes are a nice design addition and make this a slightly edgier piece.

Switch-february-2017-0012

Like the earring, the bracelet came in a black velvet drawstring bag.

Switch-february-2017-0014

The bracelet was very easy to get on and off because it opens with a spring mechanism.

Switch-february-2017-0015

The bracelet is stamped with the brand name and a mark that it was made in Italy. You can see here that some of the finish is wearing off due to use, but this isn't too surprising for a piece of rental jewelry. I will say that it seems the spikes have suffered damage and have some sharp edges where small pieces have broken off. It may be time to retire this specific piece of jewelry.

Switch-february-2017-0016

I love how this piece works with my sweater and how comfortable it was to wear. The rose gold is lovely and not too pink!

Verdict: I think this was my favorite Switch so far! Both pieces suit my personal style so well and I could see making both a part of my jewelry collection. The bracelet would work with the basic outfits I wear most days while the earring would be great for my bolder, more stylish days. My only note is the sharp edges on the bracelet spikes from wear and tear, but I know this is something to expect from time to time when renting jewelry. This month's Switch had a value of  $825 which is great for a rental fee of $49 for two pieces at a time!

I’m glad u showed the wear on that bracelet because I have the plan with 3 pieces and just received my second shipment and I’ve definitely noticed that every single piece I’ve received has had extreme wear & tear! Enough so that I won’t be subscribing anymore. For example I just received a Hermes bracelet that had extensive bubbling & chipping on the inside and it just made it so much more less desirable. I think that’s the thing with them they send out these pieces that they got on the cheap because they are so badly worn.

Hi Sally,

We feel really bad about the experience you had, and want to make it up to you. We wish you had told us about the piece you received, and we should have told you before we sent it–the vast majority of our members don’t mind the wear on the inside of the bracelet since it doesn’t show but your feedback is helpful and something we are going to definitely keep in mind going forward.

We source our inventory from the most reputable vendors, and we can assure you we do our best to get pieces that are in excellent condition.

Can you please e-mail us at [email protected]? We can’t find your record in our database or else we’d reach out to you directly. We want to refund your last month for you and try to make it right.

Thanks,
The Switch Team

Emily, thank you as always for the lovely review. With respect to your comment about the bracelet having too much wear, you’re absolutely right. And we’re really sorry about sending it to you. We should have mentioned that before we sent it to you, and we almost always e-mail our members if there is even the slightest issue with a piece before we send it.

We’re working on having more accurate pictures of our pieces and figuring out which styles are better suited for being rented out multiple times.

Marissa

$5 savings on the first one is a joke. Seriously they need to do better than that for a used piece of jewelry if someone wants to keep it.

Hi Marissa,

The vast majority of our pieces can be purchased for at least 70% of the retail price. In addition to that, members earn $10 a month toward purchasing items. The reason we kept this particular piece close to the retail value is because it’s the only one we have in stock, and it’s a very popular piece so we’d like to keep it in rotation a little longer before we reduce the price. We hope that makes sense but we’re all ears if you have any suggestions.

Krista

I love the idea of this but I’m high on love for accessories and low on self control so I’d probably go broke wanting to keep things!

I get that the wear level is going to accelerate with the rental model but that bracelet is looking WAY worse for the wear for something they want almost $300 for original price.

Hi Krista,

Thank you for the kind words about Switch. The member price is actually under $200 to buy this piece, but you are absolutely right, that still is too expensive given the wear on this piece and we have fixed that. We’re going to take this piece out of the rotation once it’s returned and we have already started reducing the number of items that have significant wear on them.

EC

Agreed. Especially considering that you can buy a like new, pristine vintage Hermes bracelet for under $300. I know, I just bought one for $279. I still can’t get past the price of this subscription in general. I have a Rent The Runway Unlimited membership that costs $130/month and I’m able to enjoy at least 12 high end designer pieces for that price. So, $49 for 2 pieces a month is absurd, particularly if they’re sending pieces of such poor used quality.

Reply ButtonReply

Hi EC,

Thanks for the feedback. To be clear, our model is very similar to Rent the Runway unlimited—we allow members to exchange items as often as they want in a given month. So in many cases we’ll have members wear 9-12 pieces of jewelry in a given month (our highest plan is $69/month for three pieces). We also think our pricing model is reasonable given the average retail value of our jewelry is $500, but your feedback is helpful and is something we’ll consider.

We should also mention that the piece we sent Emily in this current set is an outlier, and we feel really bad about it. Almost all of our pieces are in excellent condition, and if they aren’t we let our members know before sending it to them.
