Now on to the bourbon!

Litchfield Distillery Double Barreled Bourbon Whiskey Aged 8 Years- $65.99

This month’s Bourbon Explorer selection is an 88-proof whiskey from Connecticut’s Litchfield Distillery.

The bottle has some nice details: the top is dipped in wax and the label is hand numbered.

From the distillery’s website: “Our 8-year bourbon is bottle proofed to 88 and then re-barreled to invite a delicious bouquet of caramels, vanillas, fruits and spices that linger and evolve on the palette.”

The first thing that struck me about this bourbon is the aroma. It smells absolutely incredible—  rich, sweet, and a little like caramelized sugar. The taste is wonderful, too. I tend to use bourbon primarily in cocktails, but I like this one enough that I could definitely drink it as a sipper.

Verdict: I’m very happy with this month’s PourMore Bourbon Explorer pick! This bottle is definitely a winner! The value of this month’s pick doesn’t meet the cost of the subscription, but it’s important to note that the value does fluctuate from month to month. In the last few months, I’ve seen bottles range in value from $42.99 all the way up to $99.99.

Sends cheap bottles that you can get at your local shop – nothing special about this service except that it’s grossly overcharging people. Also, I did a 3 month subscription to start and I had turned off the auto-renew and had a confirmation email from their customer service that my subscription would not auto-renew. 3 months later and guess what? It auto-renewed and they illegally charged our card. Avoid this company – expensive cost for cheap tasting bourbon and crooked auto-renewals.

I signed up for PourMore February 15th. As of March 13th nothing. I did received a nice automated email when I signed up explaining they ship around the 5th of each month. No further information has been sent, and when I emailed them on the 12th of March, again an automated email reply was all I received , within their own 24 hour claim of reply. You would think for $2600 they would have a high level of professionalism. It’s seems they are not ready for this level of subscription.

An update to my subscription. I was excited to see my first delivery finally on March 22. I was under the impression my subscription would ship on the 5th of every month, not so. It shipped on the 16th. We will see what next month brings.
Well that excitement was quickly replaced with disappointment. My first bottle, of a $239/ month subscription, is “The Dalmore 18” a bottle worth $94 and easy to find.
I was expecting literature about the Scotch sent, not so. I was expecting a bottle of Scotch that was, hard to find, and worth at least $230, not so. Will next months make up the $140 gap?

Ahhh I’m so excited to see Litchfield Distillery in this box! I live 15 minutes from there and have toured their distillery with the owner. Their gin is really amazing too – you can taste the rosemary and other botanicals.
