This month’s featured brand is Akar Skin.
Akar Skin Neat Remedy Face Oil – FULL SIZE! Value $80
This face oil is designed to “calm inflammations and clarify your complexion without drying your skin.”
This oil is made with all organic ingredients and it feels lovely on my skin. (It’s designed to work well for oily, combination and sensitive skin.) It absorbs pretty quickly, too!
Akar Skin Mini Care Lip Butter – FULL SIZE! Value $25
This lip butter is made with natural and organic ingredients, and it’s super moisturizing and provides a hint of shine.
If, like me, you prefer your lip balms in stick form versus a jar, this worked equally well as a cuticle cream!
Akar Skin Lush Balance Toning Mist – Travel Size (30 ml) Value $24
This toner is “formulated to protect skin from free radicals and help smooth fine lines and wrinkles.”
Two things I like about this toner: 1. The scent! It reminds me of the Bobbi Brown Beach perfume! 2. You don’t have to wipe it off after using it, just apply post facial cleanser!
Akar Skin Travel Bag – Value Listed $25
This is a decent travel bag, but there is NO way it is a $25 retail value – it’s more like a nice freebie you get when you buy a value set. Still, it’s a nice extra!
Verdict: This box has a retail value of $154. (Or $134 if you give the makeup bag a retail value of only $5.) Either way, that’s a great value for a $40 beauty box that sends you natural and organic beauty brands! And full-size skincare! I’m so impressed with this subscription, and I love that I get to discover new-to-me ingredient conscious beauty brands!

I would love to be able do a review of December’s box because I am still using all my Metta products and loving them! Metta is form Brisbane Australia and they included a full size face balm, full size hand balm (these are very thick but melt into your skin and the face balm is definitely evening-only), full size lip balm (coconut), and travel size body butter (lavender). Everything is handmade, natural, and in beautiful glass containers.
I am also using the Akar toner and don’t agree with the BB Beach comparison. The last time I used Beach, it smelled like suntan lotion. This smells like sipping cucumber water AT the beach, very light an natural.
My February box (Red Flower) just arrived and I can’t wait to start with these items too!
Like Misty, I also noticed that MSA doesn’t have reviews of Pearlesque every month which is disappointing.
Ooooh, the toner smells like Bobbi Brown’s Beach?!?!? I had no idea since I don’t open my products until I’m ready to use them. Beach is my go-to summer fragrance, so I’ll hold off on using the toner until then. I know it’s weird to be excited for my face to smell like Beach too, but I am! 😀
I agree about the “value” of that makeup bag, no way can it cost that much. That said, it is perfect for the pocketbook – relatively flat but holds a good number of lipsticks and such. Overall, while expensive, this beauty box is well worth it, and customer service is top notch (which might even be worth more as so many boxes fall very very short in that area!)
Hi Liz,
I wanted to see a review of the November and December 2016 Pearlesque boxes. I can’t find them on the MSA website.
Thanks!
