I received this brown paper booklet sealed in an envelope. On the inside, each product and brand partner is detailed. The back of the booklet provides PB&Jealous' social media information.
Best Friends Honey Smoked Wildflower Honey, 2 oz.? - Value $2.25?
The first item I pulled out of this month's box is this cute little jar of honey. I immediately opened it without reading the flavor and found the smokiness very apparent. The honey tastes unsweetened and raw, which I prefer. PB&Jealous suggests spreading this on a warm biscuit.
This flavor is a PB&Jealous exclusive and the size of the jar is unknown, so the value is based on a different smoked flavor found on Best Friends Honey's website.
The honey is extremely thick, similar to the consistency of molasses. I found it to be easy to scoop and less messy than typical store brands.
Reginald's Double Chocolate Chunk Peanut Butter, 8.5 oz. - Value $6
This month's peanut butter is double chocolate chunk flavored. I was expecting this spread to be super chocolatey but it surprisingly wasn't. It's a blend of cocoa flavors and peanut butter - not overly sweet and a nice semi-chunky consistency. Best of all, this peanut butter only consists of four main ingredients: dry roasted unsalted peanuts, bittersweet and semi-sweet baking chips, real chocolate chunks, and peanut oil.
There are some seriously awesome flavors on the Reginald's Homemade website - I really want to try the Bourbon Pecan Peanut Butter!
Potlicker Kitchen Raspberry Smoked Maple Jam, 8 oz. - Value $8
Wow, this jam is amazing! It is made by Potlicker Kitchen, based in Vermont. The raspberry is sweetened with maple syrup, which overpowers any hint of smokiness. I tried it on crackers, but could easily sneak a small spoonful when I need a sugar fix. Box favorite, for sure!
There's a 'best by' sticker on the bottom of the jar. There's no way it will last this long, though - it's that good!
Offbeat Gourmet Blueberry Lemon Compote, 7.5 oz. - Value $9.99
The second fruit spread this month is a low sugar, gluten-free blend of blueberry and lemon. I love blueberry and lemon anything, but there was tartness I didn't care for. The flavor is good though and the consistency makes this perfect to pour over a goat cheese log, served with crackers. OffBeat Gourmet only uses locally-sourced, fresh ingredients, and all of their products are 100% gluten-free.
How cute is this little wood spoon? It accompanied the spread and is the perfect size for scooping small amounts.
Barney Butter Vanilla + Espresso Almond Butter, 3 0.6oz. packets - Total Value $1.80
PB&Jealous included a total of six almond butter packets from Barney Butter. The first three are vanilla espresso flavored. The spread tastes dry and bland compared to the peanut butter, but wow is the espresso flavoring apparent. I will carry these in my backpack while on the go, as a backup snack.
Barney Butter Cocoa Coconut + Almond Butter, 3 0.6oz. packets - Total Value $1.80
The remaining three packets are cocoa and coconut flavored and my least favorite item in the box. This spread is creamier than the other Barney Butter flavor, but you really need to care for the taste of coconut to enjoy this.
Here's a closer look at the two almond butters. On the left is the vanilla espresso and on the right is the chocolate coconut.
Verdict: I really enjoyed this month's PB&Jealous, much more than last month. I changed my box preference to Sweets only, which made a huge difference! The value of the products is $29.84, which is lower than the cost of the box and below the average promised value. There was a nice mix of small-batch organic producers, so from a discovery aspect, I'm happy. However, knowing the products included cost more than the average nut butter and fruit spread, I wish there had been at least one more full-size product to help meet the $40 promise.
