34-Degrees Vanilla Crisps, 5.5 oz - Value $3.76?
I am unable to find the vanilla variety for sale online, so I have based the value on a different flavor. These crackers were the first snack I tried and I absolutely love them. I prefer sweet over savory flavors and these thin crisps pack a nice vanilla flavor and crunch. They are almost too easy to eat and I've been enjoying them not only with the included spreads but also by themselves!
Here's a closer look at the crisps. Despite the exceptional packaging, they arrived somewhat broken, although I think each crisp is supposed to be imperfect.
Stagg Chili Pepper Jam, 4 oz. - Value $9
This jam is the first I unpackaged. Upon opening the jar, I smelled a distinct salsa smell, likely due to the chili pepper. Wow, this jam is hot! I agree with PB&Jealous that it is incredibly flavorful, but I can not get past the spiciness. It's overwhelming to my taste buds and for me, not in a good way.
Something I appreciate is the info on the side of this jar. Stagg handwrites the batch and best by date, which makes me feel this product is truly handcrafted with care.
Primo Blackberry Serrano Preserves, 10 oz. - Value $9
The second fruit spread is a nice blackberry flavored preserve. It includes serrano chili, so I also got a salsa-like smell upon opening the jar. However, the heat is much milder and is a nice combination with the blackberry sweetness. I have been eating this every day on toast, it's really delicious!
Wild Friends Honey Pretzel Peanut Butter, 16 oz. - Value $5.99
I received a full-size jar of this organic creamy peanut butter with little bits of pretzels. I didn't taste an overpowering honey flavor, in fact, the peanut butter overall tasted a bit bland. However, the pretzel bites are crunchy and the peanut is very creamy, so overall it's a nice combination. This has become a mid-day snack - one spoonful is just what I need before dinner.
Here's a closer look at each product. Clockwise from the top: Primo Blackberry Serrano Preserves, Honey Pretzel Peanut Butter, and Stagg Chili Pepper Jam, each on a 34-Degrees Vanilla Crisp.
Blackberry Wildflower Honey Sticks, 5 count - Total Value $1.40
This honey is awesome! It is made by The Minnesota Honey Company, so although not local to me, I appreciated trying a locally-produced honey made by a husband-wife team. The honey has a sweet and pure flavor and I have been enjoying it on its own and in my morning cup of tea.
Buff Bake Red Velvet Protein Peanut Spread, 1.15 oz. packet - Value $0.96
This was a bonus packet included in all January boxes. I had never tried a protein spread before and I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked this one. The red velvet wasn't obvious, but there was a nice sweetness mixed with the various seeds (ie chia and flax) and powders (ie whey and beet root). There was also a hint of chocolate which is always welcome!
Wild Friends Cinnamon Raisin Peanut Butter, 2- 1.15 oz. packets - Total Value $1.98
PB&Jealous also included bonus peanut butter packets from Wild Friends. The first flavor is cinnamon raisin. I am not a fan of cinnamon raisin cookies and the same is true for this peanut butter. It has an overwhelming taste of cinnamon which I'm not used to when eating peanut butter.
Wild Friends Chocolate Coconut Peanut Butter, 4- 1.15 oz. packets - Total Value $3.96
The second flavor is chocolate coconut. I love chocolate and like coconut, so this should have been a win. However, there is something about when mixed with peanut butter that I did not enjoy. I almost wish the flavor was just chocolate peanut butter because the coconut was a bit much. I do appreciate PB&Jealous sending four packets that I can toss into my bag for a quick snack on the go.
Verdict: This was a good first box from PB&Jealous. The value of the products is $36.05, which is a little higher than the cost of the box, but a bit below the average promised value. There was a nice mix of small-batch organic producers, so from a discovery aspect, I'm happy. I am definitely interested to see what other brands and products will be in the next box.
