Julep-February-2017-0004

This box came with a fold out sheet detailing the beauty item for the month and the new colors launched.

Julep-February-2017-0005

Now, onto the items!

Julep-February-2017-0009

First, Julep usually includes a bonus item like candy in every box! This month it's a foil sample of the No Limits Luxe Hydrating Creme. I liked this face cream a lot - it is just as luxe and hydrating as I was expecting! The only downside for me is that it is scented.

Julep Nail Polish in Jolene - Value $14

Julep-February-2017-0018

This polish is a full-coverage "Iron Ore" metallic. It's super shimmery, and it catches the light beautifully!

Julep Nail Polish in August - Value $14

Julep-February-2017-0015

This shade is described as a "Chocolate Cherry Ghost Shimmer." I have tried a few "ghost shimmers" now, and I have to admit I can only see the shimmer in the bottle. On my nails, this just looks like a high-shine coffee creme. Here it is on with the Jolene polish:

Julep It's Balm Full-Coverage Lip Crayon in Blossom Pink Creme - Retail Value $20

Julep-February-2017-0012

I've sampled these lip balm crayons before and I love them! The lip balm center is moisturizing, and the color coverage is good, too. Here it is swatched:

And this box also included a coupon for a free polish with your next purchase of $10 or more.

Verdict: I'm happy with my nail polish selections this month, and the beauty item isn't a new discovery, but it's a lip balm I love so I guess I played it safe this month! What did you think of the February Julep Maven box? Which items did you pick this month?

This month was my first Maven box and I was so excited, what a let down… Out of six polishes I received, one a free gift with my add-ons, only two looks like they did on the website. The free gift was an anemic, pale green and after three coats its still streaky. My two ghost shimmers look matte on my nails, some shimmer does show in the bottle. I didn’t receive a sample or the coupon. I don’t think I’ll get another maven box. Been hearing great things about their Korean beauty products and I’ll definitely be on the lookout for a good sale to try them down the road. This is the first subscription box I’ve ever been disappointed with (to be fair I’m less than thrilled with Squix.)

They have amazing customer service, if you are really unhappy, they will make it right. I’m sorry you had such a bummer experience for your first box. I seriously have loved them from day 1.

I got the blossom pink lip crayon too, and it’s perfect for my pale, cool complexion! The formula is wonderful as well.

I subbed to Julep for the nail polishes, which are great (though I wish they’d put out some more exciting effects like holos and super glittery formulas – and a ghost shimmer with actual shimmer would be lovely). I’m really surprised by how much I like the makeup and skincare, though.

I only buy Julep’s mystery boxes. More value for me.

I ordered the last one, Diamonds are Forever. The value was good, but the blush stick I got was too orange for me and I wasn’t into the glitter polishes that much, which I think ended up being 1/3-1/2 the value of the box.

I know people put things up for swaps, but I feel like mystery boxes haven’t always done it for me, and I was ordering to try Julep for the first time. Julep’s pick-your-own is actually a pretty cool model if you like their products while still being a good value.

Ellen, what was in mystery box? I am still debating if I should order or not. Do you mind share the information please.

Jeannette C

I got the lip balm in Mulberry and I love the color and formulation. It is one of the only colored lipsticks/balms that actually doesn’t dry out my lips. I got Yiyi, which is a pink holographic jelly polish. I really like it and with 2 coats it’s semi-opaque. Julep is seriously my favorite box!!

My little sample this month was the Love Your Bare Face Cleansing Oil (which I already love) so they may vary, which is fun. Jolene & August seem to look really cool together.

Reply ButtonReply

Kristen

Yes! I got the cleansing oil too and it is the best thing ever. I already ordered the full-size.

Steffy

I got that sample too and love it. I also got the Blossom lippie and it’s great too, but I already love them, Vintage Mauve and the other plummy/lilac shade I forget the name of being my favs. I for once didn’t choose a polish this time, opting for their clear lipliner and travel sharpener since I needed both. Jolene is making me think twice though! Really pretty. Julep Maven remains one of my favs and I was very tempted by the mystery box this month but don’t really NEED anything, but have liked the ones I’ve gotten in the past.

Amanda

I’m not sure that I can resist this sub any longer. I really don’t NEED the polish, but would love that 12 piece kit and could try it out for the 3 months. Can anyone share the ease of cancelation?

Monique

I just did the same because of the 12 set. I emailed them and asked if they would let me pick my first box instead of a curated. They said yes and credited my account for the first month and sent out my 12 piece immediately. I ended up selecting all makeup for my box. I’m truly impressed with all their selections other than polish.

Lunalee

I emailed and asked if I could pick out my 1st box after seeing your post and they said no that the welcome boxes are always curated. I wonder what comes in that box. Does anyone know?

Amanda

So I signed up today, is that within the window that will let me customize my March box? I don’t want a curated one either.

Lunalee

I took advantage for the 12 piece set also. I am not sure how Julep works.

With the half off coupon I am not sure what to pick, lol. Do you think the cleansing oil that everyone raves about will be there when we pick our boxes? Or should I take advantage of it and buy it now?

I’m also thinking about the eyebrow powder.

Nikki

I think I’m in the minority here, but I hate julep polishes 🙁 They take soooo long to dry and peel off. 🙁

Linda

I think the pastel colors..especially the older “soft focus” ones take too long to dry and use to struggle with that alot about 2 or 3 yrs ago when i first joined, but if you havent tried their polishes recently, id say you might be surprized their formulas have changed alot. Still chip like crazy. Theres maybe 5 out of like 50 that i own that will wear for 7 days, all the others chip withiin 2-3 days 😶…but i dont do the whole base/top etc so kinda my own fault..?? And im the same with all polish…finding the right topcoat to make them last is a science 🙁

Ann

You will love it! I just started using them in early December and the discounts on products alone have been worth it. I now use the entire Korean Skincare line- it is amazing! my skin is glowing every day(omg the Radiance oil!). I’ve been so happy with their nail polish/nail products, as well. I’m not even big into nail polish, but it’s getting me to branch out from the same colors I’ve been wearing since I was 15. I highly recommend the translucent lip glosses, too. I had 3 arrive today and i can’t decide which i love more.

I switched to the 6 month subscription about…literally 2 minutes ago. I called and they updated my account and I was off the phone in a minute from dialing to hanging up. Great service! People on here have said canceling is just as easy.

Amanda

Well I signed up!
I read that you get Jules for your birthday too, and mine is this month. Where do I enter that information?

svetlana7e

12 piece kit is spectacular, it came in special present box where nail polish stored in foam and the colors are so bright and pretty. I loved that box.
I signed up for 6 month so my monthly sub only $17. It was kind of glitch with my account and I could not select the items, so they sent me lip crayon, gel eye pencil, and one polish, which I was so happy about.

Reply ButtonReply

Amanda

Thanks! I think I’m gonna do the 6 month option too. It’s a lot easier to justify that way.

Hillary

The 12 piece collection they give you as a freebie is amazing. It comes in a beautiful box and the color variety is really nice. I’m super happy I signed up for this sub.

abidina

Super easy, but even better (imo) is that you don’t even have to cancel, you can just skip whenever you want and keep accumulating points & receiving Maven discounts.

i LOVE LOVE the skip a month option and have used it since month 3 of joining…which was almost a year ago. That way I get access to the sales, without the commitment of a box a month. They send an email when it’s time to review your box so it’s really easy to remember to check through the box, then hit skip.

Steffy

^This. Very easy although I’ve never even thought about it. I just skip months when I want or need to!

Valene

Do you know if they charge more if you edit your box? My box price is $26.99 a month and no longer the $24.99 price. I also didn’t get the foil sample either this month.

Reply ButtonReply

Steffy

The price can go up if you add/swap out things that go over the ‘basic’ box you get every month, and if you do add-ons.

Reply ButtonReply

Julia

Are they giving you the monthly price now? I haven’t noticed being charged more any month, but I pay for 3 months at a time (I’d do 6 months, but my partner might not be happy…).

I made a custom box, did 3 add ons, and got a cleansing oil sample. Maybe you got nail decals? From my experience, it seems unlikely that choosing a higher-value box would cause any issues.

Reply ButtonReply

LB

I did a special 6 months prepay in December so I’m not sure about the price discrepancy (I have not been charged any extra for editing my items though). But I also did not receive a small sample. I thought maybe it was because I added on 3 items and therefore got a free surprise polish instead….but who knows…

Reply ButtonReply

Courtney

I didn’t get any samples either and I did order 6 extra things.

abidina

I did the 3 add ons + a free polish and still received a sample, so it must have been a weird fluke?
