Wine Subscription Boxes - 7 Monthly Wine Clubs We Love

Happy National Drink Wine Day! I’ve been reviewing wine clubs and monthly wine subscription boxes for well over a year. Every club is unique – no matter if you’re just getting into wine or you’re practically a sommelier, whether you like red or white or sparkling, there’s a wine delivery box for you. I pulled our favorites from our Wine of the Month Club List and put together this comparison guide to help make it easier to choose!

If you’re looking for more direct comparisons of the wines I’ve received and reviewed each month, check out my Winc vs Blue Apron Wine vs Wine Awesomeness posts and Winc vs Bright Cellars vs Firstleaf vs Wine Awesomeness posts, too.

Wine Subscription Boxes - Winc

Why Is This For Me?

If you know what you like (or don’t like) to drink, I highly recommend checking out Winc. Even though you’ll get personalized recommendations every month that are based on a quiz you take when you join, you can swap out as many wines as you want. This full customization means you can order all white, or four of the same bottle, or even pick your wines solely based on which labels you like best. (Winc regularly collaborates with artists and illustrators for their labels, and they’re so much fun that it’s hard not to occasionally pick a wine based solely on the artwork!) Winc also works directly with vineyards and winemakers on exclusive bottlings, so it’s a great way try out wines that you won’t find anywhere else.

What’s In The Box?

Small-lot wines sourced directly from vineyards and wine makers. You can order as many (or as few) bottles as you like, but shipping is free when you order 4 or more.

What Else Should I Know?

The Cost: Bottles start at $13 each. (Shipping is free on orders of 4 or more bottles.)

COUPON: $20 off your first order, no coupon required, just use this link

Ships to: All U.S. states EXCEPT AK, AL, AR, DE, HI, KY, MS, OK, PA, RI, DS, and UT

  1. Wine Awesomeness

Wine Subscription Boxes - Wine Awesomeness

    Why Is This For Me?

  2. The curatorial team at Wine Awesomeness is led by a Food & Wine Sommelier of the Year, and I think the quality of the wine sent by Wine Awesomeness is top notch. Selections often veer toward the rare and unusual, though, so this is definitely a subscription best for adventurous drinkers who like to try new things. You’ll definitely see familiar varietals pop up from time to time (like Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon), but you’re equally likely to see more unconventional offerings. Recent shipments have included Picpoul, Falanghina, and an orange Georgian wine called Kakheti.

    What’s In The Box?

  3. Three bottles of wine “curated for adventurous souls.” Wine Awesomeness offers 3 different subscription options: all red, all white (with a chance of rosé or bubbly), or a mix (with a chance of rosé or bubbly).

    What Else Should I Know?

    The Cost: $45 a month

LIMITED TIME DEAL: Get a FREE bottle of bubbly with any prepaid Wine Awesomeness Membership, no coupon required, just use this link!

COUPON: Get one bottle free when you subscribe!, no coupon required, just use this link

  4. Ships to: U.S. (Including states most other alcohol subscriptions don’t ship to, like PA and OK!)

  5. Vinebox

  6. Wine Subscription Boxes - Vinebox

    Why Is This For Me?

  7. Most wine subscriptions send full-sized bottles of wine, so Vinebox’s “wine by the glass” approach is fairly unique. Each box contains three vials of wine that have been bottled using a technique that maintains the freshness and integrity of the wine. (FYI— each vial contains enough wine for a smallish glass. For reference, each vial contains 3.38 oz. of wine and the average restaurant pour is often 5 or 6 oz.) Wines are sourced exclusively from Europe, so I recommend this subscription for those who prefer Old World wines.

    What’s In The Box?

  8. Three single servings of wine (3.38 oz each). When you sign up for a subscription, you can specify whether you’d like to receive all reds, all whites, or a mix. You can also let Vinebox know how adventurous of a drinker you are, and they’ll keep that in mind when curating your box.

    What Else Should I Know?

The Cost: $29 per month + free shipping (less with longer subscription commitments). Sales tax may apply

COUPON: Use code MSA5 to save 5% off any subscription or limited edition box!

  9. Ships to: All U.S. states except Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Delaware, Hawaii, Kentucky, Mississippi, New Hampshire, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Utah, and Vermont

  10. Blue Apron Wine

Wine Subscription Boxes - Blue Apron Wine

    Why Is This For Me?

  11. Blue Apron Wine is a monthly wine subscription from Blue Apron, so it’s a great option for anyone who subscribes to Blue Apron’s meal subscription. (Every wine comes with pairing suggestions for Blue Apron Meals!) The wines sent are also 2/3 the size of a normal bottle, “the perfect amount for two over a weeknight dinner.”

    What’s In The Box?

  12. Six 500 ml. bottles of wine, half red and half white. Keep in mind that there are no customization options here, so it’s probably best for those who like all different types of wine.

    What Else Should I Know?

    The Cost: $65.99

Coupon: Save $20 off your first order, no coupon required, just use this link

Check out our Blue Apron Wine Reviews to get an idea of what to expect from the box.

  13. Bright Cellars

Wine Subscription Boxes - Bright Cellars

    Why Is This For Me?

  14. If you’re just getting into wine and you don’t yet know what you like, Bright Cellars might be the subscription for you. When you sign up for Bright Cellars, you take a quiz that helps pinpoint your taste in wine. Based on your answers, Bright Cellars matches you with wines every month that they think you’ll enjoy. (There’s not a lot of customization available through the website; however, if you’re matched with a bottle you don’t want to receive customer service can usually swap it out for you.) Prefer to enjoy your wine alongside cheese? Check out Bright Cellars’ companion cheese box subscription.

    What’s In The Box?

  15. Four bottles of wine that are picked to match your individual taste profile.

    What Else Should I Know?

    The Cost: $60 + $8 shipping

COUPON: Receive a $30 credit towards your first box!, no coupon required, just use this link

  16. Check out all of our Bright Cellars Reviews to get an idea of what to expect from the box.

  17. Firstleaf

    Wine Subscription Boxes - Firstleaf

Why Is This For The Me?

  18. Firstleaf has one of the best introductory offers I’ve ever seen from a wine sub. (Get your first 3 bottles for only $19.95 including shipping. No code required, just use this link.) I previously reviewed one of Firstleaf’s intro boxes, and even though I wasn’t in love with all of the wines I received, I was impressed with the value.

    What’s In The Box?

  19. Firstleaf offers a pretty impressive level of customization. You can choose whether to receive all white, all reds, or a mix. You can also choose whether to receive U.S. wines, International wines, or a mix. (I think Firstleaf is the only subscription I’ve seen that lets you pick between foreign and domestic wines!) You can preview every box before it ships and swap out up to three bottles.

    What Else Should I Know?

The Cost: $79 per box + shipping (For reference, the total cost with shipping to DC is $88.95.)

COUPON: Get your first 3 bottles for only $19.95 (including shipping). No code required, just use this link.

  20. Plonk

  21. Wine Subscription Boxes - Plonk

    Why Is This For Me?

  22. Are you interested in trying boutique wines from around the globe? Plonk specializes in small-batch and sustainably grown wines from small and independent producers. Plonk reviewer Jessica is consistently impressed with the quality of the wines she receives, and it’s also key to note that Plonk offers “variety wine clubs” for subscribers who only want specific wines. Prefer to only drink Cabernet Sauvignon, for example? Plonk can send you an all Cab box!

    What’s In The Box?

  23. Two bottles of wine from small boutique wineries around the world.

    What Else Should I Know?

The Cost: the Curated wine club start at $49.99 for two bottles a month, $89.99 for 4 bottles a month and $249.99 for 12 bottles a month (You can choose: whites, reds or a mix of both). Plonk also offers a grape variety wine club for wine lovers who want specific wines (Cabernet, Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc) which costs $64.99 a month for a two bottle box. Shipping is free.

COUPON: Use code MSA25 to get a free bottle of wine when you sign up! (that’s a $25 value)
