Dia & Co. Subscription Box Review – January 2017

Dia & Co
2.5 overall rating

Dia & Co. is a monthly clothing styling subscription service for plus sizes. When I signed up for the service, I filled out a fairly in-depth questionnaire about my likes and dislikes, my size, my price range, and other questions that might help my stylist. Every month my stylist sends five pieces for me to try out. The service fee is $20 per month, but that fee is applied to any item I decide to keep. Additionally, there is a 20% discount if I decide to keep all five pieces!

FYI - My items are reflective of my style and price preferences, so your package from Dia & Co. may be completely different!

This is the note I received from my stylist this month, Alexa, explaining why she chose each item. I think this is the first month I've had Alexa as my stylist.

dia-and-co-january-2017-booklet-2

This is the invoice for the items they sent this month. It shows each item and the cost to keep, plus the cost of the items totaled. Then at the bottom, it shows the total with the styling fee credited and the 20% discount for keeping all five items. The discount this month would be $65.18 if I kept all five items. That's a deep discount!

Amari Dress by Chetta B. - Cost to Keep $75

The colors and pattern on this dress are absolutely stunning! I've never seen anything quite like it! I also like the cut. I just wish the neckline were a bit more open.

Jazlyn Tie Waist Knit Top by Eloquii - Cost to Keep $59

I appreciate the stylish details that Eloquii tries to incorporate in all their pieces, but I find them universally unflattering on myself and usually others as well. Does anyone else find that to be true? The neckline is awkward, and a self-tie in knit with a vertical rib makes for an extra lumpy silhouette. After trying this, I requested no more Eloquii from Dia. I hope they honor that request!

Clark Boyfriend Jeans by Kut From the Kloth - Cost to Keep $98

I love these jeans! Kut From the Kloth is one of my favorite labels for jeans. They fit me like a glove! They are also really soft.

Verdict: Dia & Co. is one of my favorite subscription boxes, but this month was a little out there. I love being pushed to try new things, but the lace top was a bit much. On the other hand, I loved the jeans and the Jessica Simpson top, and I'm crazy about the colors in that dress! I have to admit, because of my style preferences, I would have been more upset if they had sent five boring pieces. Overall, I have been very pleased with Dia & Co. They have excellent customer service, and their pieces tend to be more reasonably priced than a lot of other styling services.

What do you think of Dia & Co.? What pieces did you get this month?

I honestly wonder if they really pay attention to the feedback and requests. I said I wanted to get away from all the black and red in my wardrobe and they send me a box full of black stuff, with a red skirt. I aslo find the prices high. My favorite store’s website lets me pick clothes, have them shipped to me free (if over $75 is ordered) and I can either return it free or drop it off at the store. $250-300 gets me a lot more to pick from that way.

After 9 boxes, I have finally cancelled Dia&co. I am a lawyer at a state agency and while I don’t need super nice suits and dresses, I do need nice pants, work shirts and skirts. I consistently found that they sent me overpriced extremely casual and ugly clothes. I asked for nice work pants in olive, tan or brown and they sent me form fitting tight grey leggings for $98! They also sent me a polyester top they claimed was a peasant top at $88! I asked for a nice cream work blouse. This was after I had a styling call with them and told them I needed professional work clothes. They are incapable of dressing anyone who works in a professional setting and they do not have a stylist over 40 so they send you ballerina skirts and leggings. They consistently send old cheap stock and try to pass it off as new. I thought about trying plvsh but they seem to be just as bad. I think I can actually do better shopping Nordstrom’s rack and fashion to figure and elloqui sales (they always have sales). I really like the idea of the company but if you need nice work clothes, don’t waste your $20.

This is good to know, I too need professional clothes as I am a University professor. So, I think I will pass! Thanks for the heads up!

I just received my 3rd box and thought “FINALLY”, something that is more style. I loved the jeans I got, the leggings? Not so much. But everything else was more my style. Then I saw the price tag $98 for a pair of jeans? No way. No how! Not ever! Sadly, I will be canceling my subscription as well. 🙁

I felt the same about my Jeans! They were just so, so expensive. I cannot justify paying $98 for ripped jeans- that I can’t even wear to work on casual Friday. After getting jeans in 4 or 5 boxes straight, I finally had to tell myself that if they don’t stop sending jeans, I’m cancelling.
Not to mention that they did not take my height into consideration at all- telling me that I can cuff every.single.pair. I’m sorry no… find a pair that are short.

AmyM

Hi Anna! I actually have that Eloquii top in forest green and in navy. It’s meant to be tied in a knot in front, which ends up creating a really nice hourglass silhouette. You might try it like that before deciding for sure to return it. (They also should have noted that since the general rule is tops tying in the back)

I adore Eloquui, but it depends on the piece. You’re probably not getting the cream of the crop via Dia (I don’t think we get the best stuff from them via Gwynnie Bee, either). I have a couple dresses from them that are second to none on style and fit.

Love your face in that FTF 🙂 haha.

Def. keep the Jessica Simpson top. If you are not considered tall you should not wear cuffed jeans at the bottom especially darker jeans, they make people look shorter. I love when jeans are soft and comfortable too, I also didn’t mind the bottom cuff or having to cuff them…. a store stylist helped me pick a lighter pair that had a longer one layer stitched cuff, very very different for me, but I could tell what she was telling me in the photos she took. I went with the ones she advised. Love them, and someone actually told me ” hey you look taller today” lol.

Okay, I signed up. Can’t wait to see what they send. Have had two months from Wantables and not been terribly impressed yet, but I’m giving it some time. I figure I’m being introduced to new brands at least, and I don’t have to go out and shop!

Laura

Ok I scrolled back up and took another look at the photo with the alize top (cause the look on your face is priceless) and I’ve gotta say, that top IS crazycakes, but you are Pulling. It. Off.

Melissa

Crazycakes! Pulling. It. Off. Yessss!!! Thank you for taking the words out of my mouth, LOL. Crazycakes is the perfect description and I LOVED the look on your face! Rofl!

I really like the Lorelai Blouse by Jessica Simpson!

I find them to be on the pricey side. I like getting clothes to try on, but the price point, even when I specify what my budget is, is not representative of what the item quality is. I have returned most items than kept lately. 🙁 I am going to give them a shot again and see what they send me.

Reply ButtonReply

Anna

Good luck Elisa! I hope it works out. If you look at the prices on plvsh or trunk club, dia is definitely less expensive. But it completely depends on what you like and need, lifestyle, etc.

Love the dress with tall boots. The colors are great and the neckline fine. Wear a long necklace to draw from the neckline. Jessica Simpson top is a good look. Love the cold shoulder top and a great price. The suggestion of a tank or camisole underneath would make it work. I would go with a low cut black cami and pair with a small patterned or colored pencil skirt with tall boots for a look all your own.

Anna

Thanks Loba! Great tips.

I think those jeans and top look great on you. (Man everyone seems to love those Kut from the Kloth jeans).

I actually liked that Eloquii too at first glance but after your review I really examined it and hear what you are saying but wanted to note that in general most people aren’t going to razor focus on you. They will look at you as a whole (sorta like how someone can be fixated with something on their face or about their hair but no one else noticed it.). However, if you don’t feel beautiful in something you shouldn’t buy it – even if it’s only a dollar.

Moral of the story: 😉 Don’t be so harsh on yourself but stay true to your instincts.

Anna

Thanks Loba! And K from the K jeans are awesome!

You look Amazing in those jeans and redish top… You Rock in those Colors.

Bonnie

That dress is so great on you!! The jeans too – boyfriend is great for you because you have issues with length, and boyfriend fits you perfectly. Couldn’t agree more on that black top…yikes! It’s really Madonna wannabe, and not in a good way. Your face says it all. You’re right about the black rib top too – you can just do better than that.

Anna

Thanks so much Bonnie!

Eileen

I love the idea of the black lace top but the fit isn’t there. That dress is gorgeous!

Reply ButtonReply

Anna

Thanks Eileen! Oh yes, I also noticed they sent the lace top in the wrong size! So it was a wee bit tighter than it should have been.

Reply ButtonReply

Samantha

The dress is definitely a keeper, and I think the neckline works fine! That lace top… yeah, at best, I would have work that when I was in high school or college, if then, lol. Doesn’t leave much to the imagination.

Reply ButtonReply

Samantha

*worn, not work

Reply ButtonReply

Lola EB

I bet you would have worked it when you had worn it

Connie

The jeans were a good fit and wash and I am going to try Kut. I thought the dress looked great. The colors were perfect for you. I so appreciate your reviews. I barely like looking in a mirror and not much for having my picture taken. Thank you!

Reply ButtonReply

Anna

Thank you Connie, that means so much to me. And please know the only reason I modeled the lace top is bc I ❤️️ MSA readers so much!

Reply ButtonReply

JacLyn

I like the lace top, too! I think if you paired it with a different colored tank underneath, the contrasting color with the black lace would look cool and that would cover up more skin on the bottom. Any color goes with black. Ooh, or maybe put it under a nice vest? The lace on your arms looks so pretty. 🙂

Reply ButtonReply

Anna

Thank you JacLyn, you are too kind. I don’t think I could fit a cami under there though! It’s a bit tight!

Reply ButtonReply

Amber

I’m wondering if they throw in a completely off-the-wall piece in every shipment just to prevent people from keeping the entire box and getting the discount haha

Reply ButtonReply

Maritz

I’ve thought the same thing!! Lol. It’s happened to me a few times and in my review I put that in there…that I was only keeping the piece because it was cheaper to do so.

Reply ButtonReply

Anna

👈👈Shrewd thinking, Amber. In this case if I kept everything it would be free, so hmmm, maybe.

Courtney B

I think that Alize Cold Shoulder Lace Top could potentially work if paired with a high-waisted pencil skirt and a nice pair of heels. I wish Dia still included those little blurbs on each garment with styling suggestions.

Anna

Me too. Thanks Courtney!

I went shopping for jeans last weekend and wanted to try Kut from the Kloth because I’ve heard a lot of people raving about them. But, they didn’t have anything even close to my size in the store. (Also, why must every pair of women’s jeans have spandex or elastane in them?) I gave up and ordered men’s Levi’s. Crossing my fingers that I chose the right size.

I like the first dress. I found it at Nordstrom in my size but now that I am looking more closely, I think it looks better as a plus size dress than it does on the model in the Nordstrom photos. Probably not worth a $98 risk, at any rate. (That is how much it is selling for there.)

Anna

Do they still have that awesome jeans store at Around Lenox? If I was a size teeny like you, that’s where I would go!

Ragan

I can’t remember the last time I went Inside the Perimeter…

Becca

Oh my, I don’t know what they were thinking with that Alize Lace Top! Definitely not a keeper. I love your face in that pic Anna, My sentiments exactly LOL!
