Now, onto the items!

Beauty-box-five-january-2017-0014

So Susan Light Diffuser - FULL SIZE! Value $18

Beauty-box-five-january-2017-0015

I love So Susan products. Their formulas are free of any ingredients you may want to avoid, and their packaging is usually pretty cute, too!

Beauty-box-five-january-2017-0016

This is a bronzer/highlighter duo. The pigment is pretty good on both shades, but it took multiple swipes to get these swatches:

Beauty-box-five-january-2017-0018

(The highlighter is very subtle - it's barely showing up below the bronzer!)

Beauty-box-five-january-2017-0013

Nanacoco Nail Polish - FULL SIZE! Value $4

(Nail polish color will vary for subscribers.)

I'm really loving this pale blue/grey creme shade! Here it is on with two coats:

Beauty-box-five-january-2017-0017

It's a great high-shine creme formula and I've been wearing it for a few days with minimal chipping, too.

Beauty-box-five-january-2017-0011

Pur-lisse Blue Lotus 4-in-1 Cleansing Milk - 1 oz Value $7.20

Pur-lisse is one of those brands that makes a lot of appearances in subscription boxes, but I have no complaints because I really love their formulas. This cleanser is ingredient-conscious, gentle, and didn't dry out my skin!

Beauty-box-five-january-2017-0009

MaskerAide Spotted! - Value $ 5

Beauty-box-five-january-2017-0010

Each sheet includes 12 clear stickers made with a blend of Salicylic Acid, Volcanic Ash, and Tea Tree Oil to help treat blemishes. (These aren't clear to go under makeup, just to not look like you are wearing stickers on your face!) And for best results, MaskerAide recommends wearing them overnight.

Beauty-box-five-january-2017-0012

Novex Bamboo Sprout Leave-In Conditioner - 3.88 oz Value $3.70

This is a great size sample for a leave in conditioner! This formula is pretty light, so it didn't weigh down my hair, and it definitely added softness. The only drawback for me is that this is formulated with parabens.

Verdict: This month's Beauty Box 5 has a value of about $38! I think that's great for a $12 box! I'm continually impressed with Beauty Box 5, and I think it's a great beauty box if you are looking for value and are OK with getting a mix of drugstore and more high end brands.

What do you think about the January Beauty Box 5? Did you like this month’s box?

FYI - If you sign up for a Beauty Box 5 subscription by the 21st of February, the February box will be your first box!

The novex made my hair stop falling out! After the first use I saw a huge difference in fall out, I have a thyroid problem so my hairs been falling out like I had hair plugs I’ve used it 3 times now brushed my hair and maybe 10 hairs fell out and none when I ran my hands threw it. I’m buying more! I am so shocked something helped. So I’m keeping the box (plus I enjoyed the other things too)

Great to know! My hair goes through cycles where it falls out. I read that eating pumpkin seeds help (and it has) but I’m going to try this too!

I really liked my first box this month. I got it on the 26th. They even gave me a bonus loose eyeshadow. I like them so far.

I got my box today and the only difference was the nail polish shade. I got “My Guy”. It’s a dark black/gray color and while it’s not for me, my teen will love it in her Easter Basket. The thing I love about BB5 is that everyone gets the same box for the most part and I don’t know if there’s a correlation or not, but I notice a lot less negativity in the comment section. BB5 sends good size samples and lots of unknown brands that I generally find I like. They don’t usually have that one wow item or brand like most of my other beauty boxes, but I’m finding that out of all my boxes (Ipsy, Sephora Play, and BoxyCharm), BB5 items are the ones I actually use the most and look to repurchase in full size.

Toni

I do wish I would have received that color of nail polish though I like it allot better than the one I got .I will use the one I received I just think yours is prettier lol

Tamara Dungan

Same! I got “My Guy” which is a very dark gray/black. It’s all good though…my teenager will love it so that’s one less Easter Basket item to buy 🙂

Liz your husband should really review the threadbanger box!!!

I’m embarrassed to say all the monthly boxes I get, (Thanks Liz!) and BB5 ALWAYS makes me smile!

Nan

That nail polish looks great. I just wish they would ship my January box. No way it can even get here till February.

Reply ButtonReply

Mallory

I am so mega in-love with that bracelet that I am kicking myself for not signing up for Oui Please! It definitely makes that nail polish look like a million bucks

Reply ButtonReply

Janel

I love the bracelet too, where can you get it?

Reply ButtonReply

Tamara

I got the annual subscription when they had their Black Friday sale so my boxes are only $7 a month and for that price, I’m super pleased with BB5. I love the fact that everyone gets the same thing and even the sample sizes they send are usually pretty good sized. I’m excited about the bronzer and the leave-in conditioner. My 4-yr-old has hair down past her behind and it’s always a battle to get it combed out so I always welcome leave-in conditioner. And I’m sure my 15 year old will put the spot stickers to good use. I just hope my box shows up before the end of January. Lol

Revlon has a Detangler which works like a dream. I have fine hair & always screamed when my hair was combed as a child. That hair is still with me & although the combing isn’t as bad just spraying on the Revlon & having the comb go right through was a real treat.

Reply ButtonReply

Tamara Dungan

I will definitely be checking that out! We love her long hair but combing it out is the worst. We’ve tried several brands and most work ok, but we haven’t found that holy grail yet. Thanks for the tip!

Luna

I still haven’t received a shipping notification for mine yet. 🙁 Usually, I have my box by now. Looks like a good box though!

Reply ButtonReply

Tamara

Email them and they’ll get your tracking number to you. That’s what I had to do and they were quick to respond. If you follow them on Facebook, they always respond quickly there as well.

Reply ButtonReply

Luna

Thanks for your reply. 🙂 I like to give the companies the whole month to get their box to me, so if I don’t have it by next Monday, and I haven’t received a shipping email by then, then I’ll definitely be emailing an inquiry. I do have some boxes that ship really late in the month, but this is out of the norm for BB5 (at least for me), so I guess the unknown, and seeing that others already have their boxes, is making me anxious to receive it! 🙂

Sara

I subbed to this like two years ago and it went downhill really fast. At the end they were sending out free samples and saying they were valued at like $5 or whatever. It wasn’t even worth the $12 you paid for it. They disappeared for a long time and I guess have reemerged and actually have good boxes again. But it was too much like Beauty Army for me.

Reply ButtonReply

Dea

BB5 is my new favorite beauty sub. Good finds, usable products, $84 a year = $7 a box. No complaints here!

Reply ButtonReply

SSM

What is the name of that nail polish shade? Thanks!

Reply ButtonReply

Liz Cadman

Sorry I should have included that in the review. The shade is “Best of My Love.”

Reply ButtonReply

Becca

This is a lower value box then they usually send but it’s still a good box. The novex and maskeraid are New brands to me. I love how I always get different items from bb5 that I don’t get in other subs. I will be swapping the nailpolish however. I only paid $7 for this box so you can’t beat that!

WARNING!!!! Beauty Box 5 IS NOT BBB accredited! They have an F rating with the BBB! Beware! I’m not sure how you got yours… So far no one else has gotten there January 2017 BB5 box yet. They did not ship until the 19th. It took 5 days for my box to get to DHL and it is still sitting in Texas with DHL. It’s the 26th! Beauty Box 5 does not follow their own FAQ’s. They do not respond to customer emails. The quality and value has gone downhill over the last 4 months, January included. I can not believe these products are what I’ve been waiting so long for. I can pick up zit dots for $3 and get a 1 oz sample of purelisse for free just 2 miles from my house, professional nail polish for $1-$5 and better quality professional leave in conditioner for the same price or less a block from my house, and a larger bronzer/highlighter duo just about anywhere near me for 1/2 that price. The only cool thing is that the bronzer/highlighter is scented like cocoanut & chocolate. But it’s really designed for a really white person. I will be able to use it for eyeshadow, maybe. I will use the zit dots on occasion… I will put the cleanser in my travel bag but the other items will be given away. IF I EVER ACTUALLY GET THIS BOX THAT I HAVE PAID FOR!!! Last box.

I feel I must speak up about your accusations. The BBB is not something all business have to belong to. Just because you have had a bad exprience with this company is by no means a reason to turn someone else off to it. And just because you don’t like the items sent and can find them elsewhere cheaper, then go for it. Some of us love our sample and can’t get this kind of stuff down the street. So just cancel your sub. and go down the street and purchase what you want when you want it. And yes the boxes were shipped out later thank usual this month but they always reply to my email and question fast and nice. I have never had a problem and have even given them indie company suggestions they have taken. So please dont be harsh just because you think they should be part of the bbb or because you don’t like the items. Just don’t subscribe and move on…

Reply ButtonReply

Toni

I agree ,I really like this subscription box,I always receive things that are new to me

Toni

I’ve been with them for almost a year and I personally love this box .This months box was later than it’s ever been but their customer service is awsome in my opinion !.I love that you get a variety of things in their boxes .Now. Has there been times that I wasn’t in love with every single item ? Of corse but it’s always been items I will use and the value of the box is always there .Sorry if you had a bad experience but you should give them another shot because I feel they just get better and better

Reply ButtonReply

SusieA

Not sure where you got the info that no one else has received January’s box yet. I have received mine. I have been subscribing to BB5 for quite awhile. I have never had a problem with them. I’ve emailed a couple of times to ask questions and I’ve always received a quick and courteous reply.

Reply ButtonReply

Becca

I got my box yesterday. It comes at the same time every month. They have had wonderful CS and they send some of the best beauty boxes out there. They always send 3 or 4 full size items every month. I have been subbed for a year and have never had a problem ever. Glossy box is not BBB accredited either. And GB is a horrible company with really bad boxes and cost double what BB5 does. I love BB5. It’s one of my favorites!

Reply ButtonReply

Tamara

You’d be amazed at how many legit business’s are not BBB accredited. People only go look at that when they’re ticked off at a business. I’m sorry you’ve had a bad experience with BB5. I’ve been subbed with them for about 3 months now and I couldn’t be happier. I love the variety in the boxes and customer service has been quick to respond when I’ve contacted them which has been these past two months about the late boxes. That’s my only complaint is that they are way behind on shipping the boxes. A simple fix for them would be to change their FAQ section about when boxes ship and be more vague like all of the other beauty boxes are…you know, kind of like the cable company lol “it’ll arrive sometime between the middle and end of the month”.

Reply ButtonReply

Svetlana

I am sorry that you had a bad experience with them, but I feel I need to defend the company based on my experience. I subscribed couple weeks ago and bought mystery box with subscription. Both boxes were sent a week later with e-mail notification of the shipment. I was worried that they did not send me mystery box, I contacted customer service. They responded in less then 24 hours providing tracking numbers for both boxes. They both arrived a day apart. I loved both boxes. Both of them had something new. Love nail polish color, usually I get some weird colors like bright green or gray with other subs, but this polish color was ideal. They gave me gift as a new subscriber too. Very happy with the box and the company.

Reply ButtonReply

Sam

Same here. I have had no issues with this company. I signed up for 3 months and cancelled at the end because I had too many subscriptions. I received all three of my boxes around the same time every month and cancellation was a breeze.

Ragan

The BBB is kind of a sketchy deal, to be honest. I don’t pay much attention to accreditation with them. You can actually get a poor grade with BBB simply by dealing with customers on your own instead of through the BBB’s official process (and they are NOT a government agency or consumer watchdog, contrary to popular belief). Click on my name for a link to an article in Time magazine that outlines some details of BBB practices.

DHL is always slow, it’s just something I’ve come to expect. Companies use it because it is cheap so it helps them keep costs down. In the transition between DHL and USPS, I often find that packages don’t get scanned or sit for awhile.

Reply ButtonReply

Kate

I agree. I work for a business where I handle the BBB complaints when we get them. The grade is based on how fast and often you respond through the BBB website, and has nothing to do with whether the customer is happy or not, and complaints can be anything, they don’t really even have to be legitimate. Seriously once years ago we had someone complain because they had a hard time getting out of our driveway because the state was rebuilding the bridge at the exit where we are located. And we had to respond to it, and the BBB counted it when they sent us our statistics. Ridiculous. It’s all about paying the money to be a member.

Victoria

I also have to defend it based on my experience. I have a subscription & ordered some of the mystery boxes in October. They came in within a week, but had forgotten one of my free gifts. I emailed them that afternoon & they responded the next day & offered to send me another chapstick (one of the items I chose). I asked if they had any eye shadows still & they sent me the eye shadow & chap stick as an apology for forgetting an already free gift in the first place.

SSM

And DHL isn’t as slow as ONE STOP MAILING! Ugh. My Walmart Trendsetter box has been stuck in Las Vegas since 1/9, waiting to be picked up by One Stop Mailing. They’re going ahead and sending me a new one.

Every time I see One Stop Mailing listed in the tracking info for any shipment, I groan.

Svetlana

This was my first box and I was very happy with it. They sent me eye shadow as a new subscriber.

Reply ButtonReply

Kerri

This is my second box and I’m very happy with this sub, I only paid $84 for a whole year! My daughter enjoys it more than me lol.

What a great first box! Glad you like it! 🙂
