The theme for this month is “Tis the Season!.” ZenBox by Jen sends a paper outlining the box items. I appreciate this information as it helps me know if anything is missing and how to find items I’d like to purchase again.

Yogi Tea (Cinnamon Berry & Purely Peppermint) - Value $1.22 (for 4 tea bags)

I bought Yogi Tea’s Bedtime blend before receiving this box and loved the flavor. ZenBox by Jen sends a lot of Yogi teas and they are always good! Plus, I love the little sayings on the tea bag tag.

“Tis the Season” Essential Oil Spray - Value $8

We’ve been using this spray in the room where we have the Christmas tree and it feels so joyous! It is a blend of pine, cinnamon bark, and cedarwood.

ZenBunni Chocolate Bar (Spirit Weavers) - Value $3.00

This bar is made from some high serious organic ingredients – “Biodynamic & Organic Hibiscus Flower, Blood Orange, Elder Flower, 70% Cacao, Cane Jaggery.” The flavor is seriously different too. I really like the blood orange as it give a bit of bitter citrus to the bar and there is a strange sweetness that I think it hibiscus. It is certainly different but I liked it.

Handmade Wild Bird Seed Ornament - Value $3.00

I love the idea of sharing the holiday with the wild things outside. We usually have a bird feeder out so hopefully some birds will find this too.

100% Pure Wintergreen Essential Oil - Value $7.00

ZenBox by Jen suggests using this as a perfume oil or adding it to a bath or foot soak. I tried it as perfume and I smelled like a piece of gum. I think the foot soak is more my style.

Guatemalan Worry Dolls – Value $3.00

ZenBox by Jen suggests these Worry Dolls can help (or signify to) us leave our worries behind as we enter into the new year. My daughter got some of these as a gift before but I didn’t realize know why they were called Worry Dolls until now. From Wikipedia:

In traditional and modern times, worry dolls are given or lent to brooding and sorrowful children. They would tell their doll about their sorrows, fears and worries, then hide it under their pillow during the night. After this, the child will literally sleep over the whole thing. At the next morning, all sorrows are said to have been taken away by the worry doll.

Verdict: Each month this box is full of little things that when I use them, make my life a little brighter. On the ZenBox by Jen website, Jen writes about her personal struggles and how essential oils, teas, and regular meditation have helped her. I imagine it isn’t easy to keep some of these smaller subscription boxes running. I’ve sampled several different ones now and I’d much rather have some homemade interesting items then cheap, bulk items. It’s hard to price a box like this due to handmade items so I reached out to Jen and she assisted me with how she values the items. The value of the items this month is at $25.22, which is slightly above the monthly subscription cost.

Zen box… WAY overpriced. Good items, but seriously? No go, for me.

Yeah, I don’t get this box at all. I am usually not this harsh, but wow.

Everyone, please do not apply a full strength essential oil directly to your skin. They are only intended to be used very diluted in carrier oils before applying to the skin. Wintergreen especially has toxic elements that can be overdosed on. Essential oils are very powerful!

Kp

That’s seems so dangerous for the box to tell you to apply it like a perfume then. Cuz we usually apply perfume to our thin skinned wrist

Yeah, be careful with that wintergreen oil if you have kids around especially. Keep it out of reach — you don’t want them ingesting it by accident.
