Each box comes with its own booklet full of info about Tokyo culture and of course the products inside.

These snacks are nothing like snacks you'd find here in the states, so it's nice to have a guide to help you understand what to expect.

Sanritsu Chocolate Pie - Value $0.50?
This bar is kind of like a crispier version of a chocolate-filled pastry. It's flaky and crispy with a richer flavor than I expected. The chocolate inside is slightly soft, and the taste is dark and not overly sweet. I liked this little treat a lot!

Calbee Seaweed and Salt Chips - Value $5.99
These chips are thin and light. They taste very similar to regular chips, but the dusting of seaweed brings a distinct, briny note to them.
I liked this unique flavor, though I do think the price I found is way too high for what's essentially a bag of chips!

Mayotara - Value $0.50?
Oh boy, this snack. What looks like an innocent enough little cracker is actually a piece of dried fish, and boy does it smell like it! The fishy smell burst out of the package as soon as I opened it. The flavor of the fish was mild and a bit tough. In other words, not up my alley. And the packet? That's mayo that you're supposed to squeeze on top of the fish. I passed on that. The fish was weird enough as is!

Morinaga Bake in Sweet Potato - Value $2.50
I didn't know what to expect with these little biscuits. They're supposedly sweet potato flavor, but to me, the taste was almost citrusy. The consistency was kind of chalky where I expected it to be more like a cookie, so I was a little thrown off by this one.

Coris Whistle Candy - Value $1.49
Blow through these classic candies and they make a little whistle noise! They're chalkier hard candies, so they're not the most revolutionary thing in the world, but I do love that they come with a little surprise toy!

Sweet Potato Yokan - Value $0.50?
Yokan is a kind of traditional jelly treat. This type is sweet potato flavor, so it has a mild, sweet flavor. The texture was a little too odd for me. It's sort of like a thick gelatin that dissolves in your mouth.
Verdict: I wasn't a fan of these TokyoTreat snacks, but I did like being introduced to totally new, unexpected flavors! The value of the box is only $11.48, which is pretty short of the $14.99 box cost. I wish there was something more in the box to make up that cost. I was bummed that I didn't absolutely love any of the treats this month, but this is still a unique box for fans of Japanese culture!
