This box included a letter for Nyx!
And this meme, which I think is really funny for some reason.
There was also a card with the Pet Treater Pet of the Month and an info card for this month.
And ANOTHER gift code for Hello Fresh. There must be a warehouse full of these somewhere.
Siesta Time “Lights Out” Pet Throw from Vo-Toys (37 x 29 inches) – Value $7.99?
This is not a particularly useful item for a full-grown Rottweiler (well, Nyx would try to eat it , anyway, in addition to it being too small for her). I have given it to the cats. You will see a white spot on the front; there was a sticker there that said “inspected by metal detector” and it left that residue when I pulled it off. (I could only find ended listings on eBay for the price reference.)
Puppycake Wheat-Free Cake Mix in Red Velvet (9 oz) – Value $6.99
Pet Treater sent out the Puppycake ice cream last month. I’m not sure a dog cares about red velvet flavor but I know my mom’s dog loves some of the Puppycake products I’ve given her in the past, so I think I will send this back to Missouri since Nyx is currently recovering from a bit of an IBD relapse.
Exclusively Dog Sausage Bits (7 oz) – Value $7.59
These are made in the USA and are free of wheat, corn, and soy – all important things to look for in dog treats. Plus, they are small, so they will work for small dogs or as training treats for large dogs.
I (heart) Bacon 2017 Wall Calendar – Value $16.45
Every month, Pet Treater sends one item “for your human.” I realize I may be in the minority, but I find bacon to be repulsive. (But then, I have been a vegetarian for over 23 years.) So this was kind of a fail for me. I will find someone else to pass it on to.
Emmy’s Gourmet Canine Creations Santa Cookie – Value $1.75
We’ve been getting a lot of Emmy’s cookies from Pet Treater. I think it is nice that they have partnered with a small company. And technically speaking, this box came before Christmas (by like one day) so it is seasonal.
Plush Puppies Light Up Candy Cane Headband (L) – Value $15.62
The candy canes were supposed to light up but they didn’t work. This was big enough for Nyx. But she DID NOT like it. She spent the whole time it was on, trying to get it off. At least it was not as violent an episode as the time I tried to put an e-collar on her.
Seasonal Kerchief – Value $3?
We’ve been getting an average of one of these per month from Pet Treater. They do fit Nyx, although she doesn’t understand the concept of modeling for the camera.
Kikkerland Elephant Dog Toy – Value $9.36
Nyx loves rope toys so this was a win. And it was more durable than I thought it would be. I could only find these on eBay’s UK site.
Zanies Barnyard Unstuffables Large Mouse – Value $9.28
I would not have known this was a mouse without the product tag. I thought it was a squirrel (Nyx loves squirrels). I also did not know Zanies made dog toys (I’m familiar with their cat toys). As you might expect, Nyx loved this, but it did not last terribly long.
So I tried to take a picture of Nyx in the candy cane antlers for you. But all the pictures turned out like this. Because she spent the whole time it was on, trying to get it off.
Playing with the elephant toy was much more agreeable!
Verdict: I calculated a value of $78.03 for the December Pet Treater dog subscription box. That’s better than average for this box. I am happy that the treats appear to be new, currently-in-production items (there have been some closeout issues in the past), although I was bummed that the antlers didn’t work and that the blanket was too small and of course I did not enjoy receiving a bacon calendar. So the value was good but the items were iffy for this month. However, my evaluation is based on my personal taste and your mileage may vary.
What do you think of the December 2016 Pet Treater box? Do you subscribe to any dog or cat boxes?
