Pure Cosmetics Buff Collection Palette – Value $50

(This item is in all boxes.)

boxy-charm-december-2016-0020

I absolutely love my Pure Cosmetics palette from the Fall FabFitFun box, so I was pumped for this box as soon as I saw this spoiler!

boxy-charm-december-2016-0021

This palette is packaged and ready to gift - if you are able to part with it!

boxy-charm-december-2016-0023

The colors are a mix of matte and shimmer shadows. The eyeshadows have excellent pigment, too. And it comes with a dual-sided eye shadow and blending brush!

boxy-charm-december-2016-0024

These colors are gorgeous! And this palette also comes with a coupon for 25% off your first order of $40 or more from Pure Cosmetics:

(Subscribers will receive this or Butter London Eyeliner OR ModelCo Bronzer)

Tip for applying Butter London polish - the outer cap is removable:

This shade is a gorgeous high-shine berry creme. The finish is seriously glossy. Here it is on:

boxy-charm-december-2016-0029

I normally go with lighter nail polish shades, but I'm really liking this shade - it feels very Winter and Holiday appropriate!

Makeup Geek Full Spectrum Eye Liner Pencil in Plumeria – Value $9

(This is a variable item - not all subscribers will receive it.)

boxy-charm-december-2016-0013

I've sampled a few Makeup Geek products thanks to Boxycharm, and I'm officially a fan now. (Everything I've tried has such great pigment!)

This burgundy eyeliner glides on so smoothly, and no surprise - the pigment is fantastic. They staying power is pretty great, too. (Swatched in lower photo.)

OFRA Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick in Napa Valley – Value $19.90

(This item is in all boxes.)

boxy-charm-december-2016-0015

This purple liquid lipstick has a subtle metallic/micro shimmer effect, and the pigment is fantastic. It has an almost matte finish, and the formula has a cupcake flavor, too!

This color is a little too dark for me to pull off, but I'm going to try it as a liquid eyeshadow - it's just too pretty not to use!

Here it is swatched below the eyeliner and above the palette:

Beauty For Real Lip Revitalizer – Value $14

boxy-charm-december-2016-0017

What a pleasant surprise - I was not expecting this lip scrub to smell so wonderful!

boxy-charm-december-2016-0018

This sugar scrub is made with a blend of vanilla, orange, and cinnamon bark essential oils. (It reminds me of a Spiced Orange Pomander Ball!) And in addition to smelling wonderful, the sugar scrub did a great job of exfoliating and moisturizing my lips.

Verdict: This box has a value of about $108! As always, the value for Boxycharm is amazing! (And I believe I have one of the lowest value variations this month, too!) The palette alone is worth more than the cost of the box (and it's a fantastic palette), so everything else is just a bonus to me!

What do you think of the December 2016 Boxycharm Box?

FYI - According to Boxycharm, if you sign up before the end of any month, that month's box will be your first box.

can you tell me why this pallet looks exactly like the Urban Decay, Naked 3 pallet just with a different name?

Hi! I just signed up for this subscription, hoping my first box would be December. Got an email saying I’m on the waitlist. Does anyone know if that means my first box will be January or is the waitlist the default message everyone gets at first? If anyone knows, I’d love the info!
Thanks!!

jo.domino

I signed up in November for boxycharm for my two daughters and myself . We received the November boxes and loved them but neither of us received our December boxes . They weren’t shipped – they were paid for but not shipped. And I finally got a response from their team today saying that in a situation like this they will send replacement boxes at no extra cost to,me ?! Is it just me that thinks that is a horrible response , no apology for the mix up by them just a response saying they won’t charge me an extra charge for the boxes I already paid for that they never sent. I am so mad. WORST.CUSTOMER.SERVICE.EVER.

Emma Soji

I keep coming back to this box and deciding NOT to subscribe based on comments like this. In almost every thread, people are super mad and their customer service seems like its sorely lacking. too bad. I hope you get some resolution.

Marielle

I’m a new subscriber 🙂 and have been waiting for my box to arrive for what feels like an eternity. After reading all of your reviews and comments I still don’t know what to expect! Mind you, I’ve never has a subscription service other than my utility bills 😛 But I’m very excited. I like the fact that I atleast know the gist of what I’ll be getting and I’ll have 2-3 surprises which is pretty awesome. I’ve also inherited 2 sister in laws that I will be gifting any products that better suit them.

Side note: My box weight is .9 lbs
(I’ll update what I get when it arrives)

Got my first box today! Yay!!! I got everything Liz got except the makeup geek, instead I received the IBY in Grey Pearl. The only thing I really really wanted was the scrub or the highlighter and I got the scub! Woot ! Woot! I’m pretty happy. I already sent the Ofra lippie to a new home and the Pure palette, I will be re-gifting. Overall, pretty happy experience! Can’t wait for January!

I got the same box as Liz, except my Makeup Geek eyeliner was called Royal and it was definitely purple. I love the shadow palette and the eyeliner. I feel like they work well together with the lip and nail color.

That said…that lip color was quite the shock. I love purple lipstick, but this is so dark it looks black. The first time I tried it, I felt so goth and immediately wiped off what I could and then went over it with my beige Bossy lipstick from this month’s Glossybox. (see Glossybox December reviews if you want to see that shade). That toned it down slightly so I felt I could go to work. After that I was afraid to wear it again. There it sat, unused, as I continued to make pretty combinations from the shadow palette and wear them with my purple liner.

One day, about three or four days later, I decided it was time to face my fear of the dark lip. (I am a pale lipstick lover, golden tan skin and dark golden blond hair). I swiped that blackish purple lip color on and…ROCKED IT. I think I went slightly darker on the eye shadow than I had the first time, and I just decided to wear it like it belonged there. Posted my pic on facebook, with the Boxycharm look and reindeer antlers on my head, and got tons of likes and compliments, some specifically about the lipstick.

I feel so liberated. Will it be my go-to? No, especially because it’s harder to maintain the color than my pale faves. But I know I can wear it. Thanks, Boxycharm, for getting me out of my comfort zone. Because isn’t that the real reason many of us love these boxes…the surprise and trying new things?

Reply ButtonReply

Bonnie

I also feel like even though my shadow palette also says “Buff Collection,” my shades skew much more pink/purple than the ones Liz shows. No browns. Really pretty neutral pinks and purples, but different than what is pictured.

Ivana

I signed up this month for boxy charm because I read this review and was so impressed by the items. My box promptly arrived this morning. I received everything that the review box except for the Iby gold brown pencil I received. Over all I’m very pleased. The only thing that was disheartening and makes me think twice is the broken Pure palette. Love the colors in it. So exited to try it. Just was broken and all over my box. Sent in a picture to there customer services. Im curious to see how this will be handled.

ReviewStuffz

Totally subbing on Friday. I <3 Ofra and purple so that alone makes everything else what $2? I only wish they would go as bold on the eyeshadow palette as they did on the lip.

Reply ButtonReply

Cornflake

Yayyyyyy I got the exact same box as shown, except a golden brown eyeliner by IBM instead. Works for me!!

Reply ButtonReply

Samantha

Box twins! I love the eyeshadow palette and I’m excited to try the nail polish and lip scrub. I’ll try to swap or donate the purple lipstick and gold brown eyeliner.

I love BoxyCharm! This month purple lipstick was gifted to a friend who saw the spoiler and wanted it. And everything else I liked: eye shadow palette, lip liner in a shade of pink, nail polish, Cougar powder. After trying out a few different beauty boxes, I am starting to weed. I am definitely keeping Boxycharm! And probably BeautyFix as well. Said goodbye to Sephora Play, just not for me. I also said goodbye to Beauty Box 5, although I liked them a lot, and recommend it for the price. I have honestly collected so many products in the last 3 months, I think I am set for the next year! And I still have more coming in the FFF box and the Zoe Report box. Plus some things from various PopSugar boxes I have ordered. Entering product overload, oh my!! Just curious: Do any of you ladies actually use up these products? Do you gift lots of items? Do you have huge collections? Do you toss the items that aren’t getting much use?

Reply ButtonReply

Melissa W.

So.. yeah, selling is an option. Or you can gift like you mentioned. I believe most products are good for like 3 years.. that’s what I read anyway. So, perhaps you’ll get to them someday!

Reply ButtonReply

Melissa W.

I’m on product overload too! I think I have enough for 3 years..lol. I have 2 dresser doors full. Plus stacks of beauty boxes everywhere. I’m going to have to build a whole other room just for my sample addiction. So… I decided to start selling the things I won’t use by posting on Craigslist and Facebook sale pages. I usually sell in lots of 20 for around $20, and also some larger lots. I keep the price at about $1 an item. It helps get rid of things I won’t use, plus puts some $ in my pocket to help support my beauty box addiction!

Reply ButtonReply

Jasmine

Never thought about selling things! Good for you and the buyer!

Lesli

I have only been doing ipsy and Boxy for four months but I can see how product overload would start happening soon…ipsy not as much. I use up the samples as fast as they come for the most part. Boxy is where they really accumulate. But I went from never buying makeup to now having quite a bit. The nice thing is that I probably needed more than I had before, have gotten more interested in trying new things and I put on makeup and make an effort every day now. I also have a pretty sweet makeup bag for my purse now too with the extras. But yeah in a few months I may have to take a break for sheer volume alone. It would be hard for me to spend the money and then just give it away but I guess I could do that occasionally too.

Reply ButtonReply

Jasmine

I definitely needed the volume. My history with makeup: I basically wore stage makeup as a teen for ballet recitals 20 years ago. And again for my wedding 15 years ago. And once or twice since then. Lol! I decided that it was time for my 36 year old self to start wearing makeup. We go so many places where i feel under dressed without makeup. After a bit of a learning curve, i am liking the new look (well, looks!). The variety of brands, products, and tips have quickly brought me into the modern era. And on a budget! I really love this site! I think Liz does a wonderful job! And thanks to all of you ladies who comment with opinions and tips, super appreciated!

Julie B.

Received mine today. Last month I got leftover items, so feared the same…but happy to see I got same as Liz except eye brightener instead of pencil. But gosh that purple lip is worse than expected! This box will forever be known as “the month with that purple lipstick.”

Reply ButtonReply

Chrissy

Is it just me, or does that Pure palette look exactly like the Naked 3 by UD? It looks just the same: the colors, the order they are in- the package. Only difference is the color of the palette & the lettering.

Reply ButtonReply

Jasmine

Yes, for sure! I thought it WAS the Naked brand. I am new to all this… and a friend had recently shown me her Naked palette. I was so excited to get mine, thinking it was the same thing. Sometimes knock offs are just as nice as the original. Hope that’s the case here!

Tina

I’m getting mine on Tuesday. I really want the eye brightener. If someone who got it would post the weight of their box, I’d appreciate it! My weight is .9 lbs. I’m going to try the Ofra lip color as an eye shadow because it looks too dark for my light skin.

Reply ButtonReply

Emma Soji

The eye brightener was my favorite item in the box. i LOVE putting a highlightingline under my finished eyebrow. I have found that this product doesnt last long at all. If you blend with your finger, it almost completely disappears. Its still my fav but you need to apply with care.

Reply ButtonReply

Diana

I got the brightener and my box actually said it was .92
Otherwise, exact same box as Liz.
Not sure if I will wear the purple lip. I tried it and it looks more severe than my usual look. It’s pretty, but so dark.

Reply ButtonReply

Julie B.

I did what Liz mentioned and used the purple lipstick on my eyes, right over my usual eyeshadow and it gave the look a cool duochrome vibe. No one else may notice it, but it makes makes me feel better about not throwing it out!

Violet

I received mine yesterday and it weighed. 9 lbs too. I wanted the eye brightener but got an IBY eye liner in olive pearl, the lip scrub, nail polish, ofra liquid lipstick and the pure palette. This is my first box and I am pleased with it but it amazes me how many variations there are. One charmer received an eye serum that put her total at $179 😯! Box envy immediately overcame me 😢.

Reply ButtonReply

Cady

I am so over these palettes we’ve been receiving, I guess I’m just being bratty, but I would like for BC to switch it up a bit. With that said, they are all pretty pigmented I just have way too many palettes.
I loved the OFRA dark purple lipstick. It was so pigmented, so opaque, with such a beautiful sheen (yet still matte), and comfortable!
I’m putting the makeup eraser in someone’s Christmas stocking.
The brown lip liner didn’t make sense. Why send brown lip liner and purple lipstick? But regardless I’ll use it, it just didn’t seem fitting.
And I loved the color of the nail polish (vampy red), but it’s such a terrible formula..surprising for such an expensive polish.
Part of me every month wants to cancel, then I don’t because of the overall value of the items.

Reply ButtonReply

Chris

I received the variation of IBY eyeliner in olive pearl. Very surprised that there was NO cap on it. ( and no not in the box at all ) The tip was broken and smeared off onto other items. I have never received an uncapped eyeliner, was anyone else missing theirs?

Reply ButtonReply

Dianne

I Got
-IBY lip liner in coco (more like brown eyeliner color)
-Ofra Lippie in Napa Valley (more like metelic purple black)
-Pure eyeshadow palette (comes apart when opened)
-Butter nail polish (bloodred color)
-Magic Eraser tiny size about 2″ wide by 5″ long. Sample?
Most of the box seems Gothic theme?
Is that still in style?
Not for me this month.
Next month do you think it will be pink!? I hope so!
The eyeshadows are powdery but I like them the best out of the box.

Reply ButtonReply

Stacey

This is my first box and I am blown away! I got the pallet, the lip colour, lip liner, bronzer and a eye serum.. total value of the box is $179!!!!

Reply ButtonReply

Ashlee

I got my boxycharm today, online tracking said it weighed 0.8.

– Pure Cosmetics palette – we’ll see what I think. If I don’t think I’ll use it, I’ll give it to my sister or a friend.

– Ofra liquid lipstick in Nappy Valley – my 40 year old self is never going to pull this off without looking like I’m trying too hard. I tried it on and sent a pic to a friend for a laugh, then my 11 year old daughter saw me and her expression pretty much assured me I’ll never wear this. I do seem to like the formula though, only wore off around the inside of the lips while eating, it dried fast, good consistency, applied well, isn’t sticky, so I’ll have to try it in another color.

– Butter London nail polish in Ruby Murray – love this! I’ve always wanted to try Butter London polishes, I’ll have to give it a go tonight and see if it holds up as well as my Essie gel setters. Would the Essie base coat and the gel setter top coat be ok? Or what does everyone use with their polishes? I seriously only use Essie’s, so I have no idea. My card said I’d be getting the Model Co bronzer, not this polish, but I’m good with the polish, the color is so pretty!

– IBY lip liner in Classic Red – this is actually perfect as I don’t wear red a lot, but when I do, I need a liner, so I’ll use it.

– Blinc black lash primer – I just bought more Benefit lash primer last weekend, but I’m always up to try something new, have never heard of this. The packaging is very nice. Based on the spoilers and weights over everyone’s, I thought I was getting the mini make-up eraser, but I’m much more pleased with this,.

Overall good box, but that purple lip, eek.

Reply ButtonReply

Jenny Chen

Same exact happened to me with the card and the bronzer.

Reply ButtonReply

Jillian

I got the palette, the Ofra lip color (can’t use. Way too dark. So disappointing), the butter polish, the lip scrub, and a navy IBY liner. I was disappointed when I thought it was a black liner. When I realized it was navy, I was much happier. So happy I avoided the bronzer! I love Butter polishes!

Reply ButtonReply

Teri

Love this box!
Pure Cosmetics Buff Collection Palette – Already winning!
Butter London Nail Lacquer in Ruby Murray – Card says bronzer but received this beautiful shade of nail polish from BL so can’t be upset with that!
OFRA Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick in Napa Valley – Look forward to trying this brand in another color. I love the metallic shimmer but can’t pull off this shade. Probably for the best as the yummy buttercream smell would have me biting my lips.
IBY Beauty Lip Liner – Classic Red – Finally a red lip liner and not a red lipstick.
Blinc Black Lash Primer – I love getting mascara so I can’t wait to try this primer. If this product is as good as its’ packaging (picture a metal tube with a twist off cap that has a mascara inside with a paper instruction pamphlet), I’m going to love it.

Winning Bigly!

Reply ButtonReply

Ashlee

That’s the same box I got! And my card also said bronzer but I got the nail polish!

Reply ButtonReply

Teri

Yay!

Cjchav

Love that primer;got it earlier this year in anorher sub! I felt like I didn’t need any mascara on my lashes, it was so dark! (and that’s a good thing!

Reply ButtonReply

Teri

I see why you love it. I really liked the applicator. It separated and extended my lashes and did not clump. I was very happy with the primer alone but added mascara to go for the coveted falsie look and was very pleased. The first time I applied both it did not end well. This formula dries fast so work quickly. Anyway, this definitely makes it into my “go to” makeup bin.

FYI…I am not fond of red but the Classic Red IBY lip liner pairs very nicely with the Red Warning Smith & Cult lip lacquer from the September PSMH box.

Now what to do with the Napa Valley lipstick…
…lovin’ the idea to use as an eyeliner and will start there…

Lucy

Boxy, I am so sorry, but this is goodbye forever. Last month I so badly wanted the oil and didn’t get it. This month I was so excited about the lip scrub. Didn’t get it either but instead got a flimsy little makeup remover rag and a lip liner which I am not excited about at all. To make matters worse, now I get to read from those happy subscribers who received the lip scrub how wonderful it smells and how great it tastes lol! Please don’t get me wrong, I’m happy for all of those who were lucky enough to get it. But to dangle a nice product like that or the oil from last month in front of your loyal subscribers and then only give it to some is not the business model I so admired and enjoyed. There are way too many variations in the boxes at this point for me, and this month, again, the value of my box was much lower than others. I have been a subscriber for over two years and will miss the excitement of opening a box each month from you, but I’m so disappointed. Thanks for the memories. Bye.

Reply ButtonReply

Kim

I am with you…I seem to be getting the lower value variations with less desirable products. I am not a fan of the recent variations. I preferred when this sub provided everyone with the same, especially since they are not working off a beauty profile for the variations, it has no rhyme or reason. I too have been a long time subscriber, which tells me BC must not care about keeping long term subscribers satisfied, but instead want to thrill newer members. It may be time to move on and I really am on product overload anyway…

Reply ButtonReply

MIchelle

I’m a bit miffed at Boxycharm today. I got an email saying come back and here is a 25% off code, so I go to sign back up and it says the code doesn’t exist. WTH???

Reply ButtonReply

Maria

Please double check that the pigments in the lip color are safe for eye use. Sometimes they aren’t, especially if there is carmine in it.

Reply ButtonReply

Paula

I received the eye pallet, the ofra, the butter polish, and….cougar body shimmer and an Iby lipliner in shade lovely, whichwould probably be good for spring. I am unimpressed. It seems lately I only receive older items that are left over as fillers, and never the spoiler items. I figured, at first, that it would all even out, and I would get the best picks sometimes, but I really feel now that this has gone on long enough. Boxycharm, I am leaving you.

Reply ButtonReply

Lorraine

The same happened to me. The only thing I like in the box was the ofra lipstick. I keep getting disappointed so I’ve unsubscribed. I even emailed them when the spoilers first came out and said “I really don’t want the nail polish because I don’t use nail polish and I’ve gotten nail polish in the past. Could I please get one of the other spoiler items” but they said no because everything is “random” which I don’t believe. Youtubers and influensters always get great products and I always get bad ones. The liner sucks and isn’t a winter color at all (it’s coral), the palette isn’t very good, who uses body shimmer?, and I won’t use the nail polish (I gave it to someone else). I was so excited for the eyeliner and lip scrub, but of course I got the one thing I didn’t want and none of the things I really wanted. Oh well, I guess I’ll be saving $21 a month.

Reply ButtonReply

Stefanie

I use body shimmer all the time. Mine is in the form of a Shimmy shimmy bar from Lush, but i use and love them. That said, i had gotten the powdered “shimmer powder” spoken of from BC back from june? July? One of those 2 months…but anyways, it sucked. It was a lame product i ended up giving away.
And it is random, which boxes go where. I have nothing to do with youtube or influencing and i have gotten the “good boxes”, i have yet to be disappointed. I just rationalize that its only 21$ a month and there is always at least a few products i have liked-even if i didnt love everything. I will just go buy a specific product that i want that badly. I wont leave it up to chance to see if i get one. Im on palette overload and wish they would cut it out with them though (im giving away 3 of them as xmas gifts) . And the variations are getting a little out of control because theres sooooo many. I dont think thats cool they are tossing in stuff from begining of summertime.

Katie

I got the palette and ofra liquid lipstick like everyone got. I also go the nail polish (yay!!), a blinc eyelash primer and an iby red lip liner

Reply ButtonReply

Andrea

I must be the only one but the palette was a total miss for me. It’s basically just the urban decay naked 3 palette but poorer quality. everything else was nice though.

Reply ButtonReply

wendy

Glad I’m not the only one who thought cheap when I opened the pallette. Not impressed at all. The ofra is a terrible color. Not sure many people can (or should, haha) pull that off. Don’t need nail polish and won’t use eye brightener from thrive. Not a great box for me. Oh well. Maybe next month.

Reply ButtonReply

Lesli

It is, and I’m surprised they can get away with such a blantant knock off, but that being said I still like the colors and it works pretty well for me. Would never spend $50+ on it, that cost seems inflated.

Reply ButtonReply

Patty

It’s fairly common place in the cosmetics world for one brand to come out with something and for others to duplicate it, as long as they aren’t claiming it IS a Naked 3 palette and aren’t stealing formulas or names etc there’s nothing wrong with it and how a free market works, I think at this point about every single brand has a “Naked” dupe.

Marian

My lip product smells awful, nothing like what was discribed here. So bad I don’t even want to give it away .

Reply ButtonReply

Sara

I’m sorry hunny! Email them, they will take care of you! Boxycharm has awesome customer service and have been wonderful to me. They will send the typical generated email and say will get back to you in 24-72 hours. The longest I’ve waited is a day. Liz described the scent of the Lip Scrub Perfectly! It does smell like that. But I would email them Sweetie! ❤

I’m new to box charm subscription. I love it. I do want 2 sub services.. Someone mentioned beauty fix? I don’t want my subs to be too a like. What’s your favorite next to boxy charm?

Reply ButtonReply

Jaclyn

Try BeautyFix. I have a lot of (too many) subs and BeautyFix is one of the best. It’s different than the make-up subs and has great quality products.

Sherry

I’m very relieved that I got the lip revival rather then the make up eraser and that I got IBY olive pearl eyeliner ( would had loved the MUG more). The nail polish is beautiful and I’m excited to try the palette. The ofra lipstick is another story though. Lol
If was 20 years younger I would love this. I do wear purple make up but not so dark its almost black. Its not a good look on me at my age but hopefully some of you love it. I will try it at home so I can see if I like the formula. It smells amazing. So even though this months box isn’t a wow for me, I’m happy because I didn’t get a lip liner or make up eraser.

Reply ButtonReply

Sherry

My ofra lipstick smells like cupcakes and lip scrub smells like orange spice. If your stiff smells bad I would email boxy right away. 😢

I have beauty box 5, allure, and ipsy. I’d say beauty box 5 is a really good one to try. I got the year black friday deal & everytime I see the review I think ughhh I hate this box I won’t like any of these things then I get the box in & actually try the stuff out & end up loving every single thing. They are like magic. Ipsy is getting better. They are actually listening it seems to what people want in their bags, at least they are for me. I’m waiting on boxy to quit with their huge variations before I resubscribe. I always ended up with the low valued stuff that I’d never use.

Reply ButtonReply

Melissa

My favorite sub is Look Fantastic Beautybox by far. If you sign up for the 12 month sub, then it brings the price way down. My price came to $14.50 a month with free shipping. Then, I would have to say that I am enjoying Birchbox so far also. I only received my 2nd box, but I’m very happy with the selection of samples.

Reply ButtonReply

Becca

I love beautyfix. It is mostly skincare and hair care with usually one makeup item a month. They always send tools like mirrors, rushes, tweezers, nail clippers. This month the value was $150 dollars. You get amazing products every month. I also love Look Fantastic. It ships from london free. You get six products that are always unique and most you can’t find in the US. The value is really great.

Reply ButtonReply

Anna

I also have only 2 subscriptions; Boxycharm and Play! By Sephora. I used to have Glossybox, Ipsy, and Birchbox for a year but had to cut down to two (student on a tight budget) so I cancelled those and got Boxy and Play based on the reviews. This is my second Boxy month and third Sephora and I’m loving them both!

Forgot to mention if you don’t want them too alike I suggest BeautyFix they have mostly skin care while Boxy is makeup heavy. I do not recommend Glossy, Ipsy or Birchbox. Or you can go through past reviews on various beauty boxes this site has lots of them.
