BarkBox Subscription Box Review + Coupon – December 2016

barkbox-december-2016-0001

BarkBox is a monthly subscription box for dogs. It’s one of our favorite subscription boxes – our dog loves it, and we’ve gifted it to dogs in our extended family as well!

BarkBox customizes your box to your dog’s size. For reference, this review is for the small size (our dog weighs 14 pounds). Check out Ragan’s review of last month’s box for large dogs!

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

This month’s information card is made to look like a gift tag! It also shows some toy options for the month.

Our little elf, Buckles, was primed and ready to review!

Hugo’s Hot Cocoa – Value $14

We received two plush toys this month and couldn’t be happier! The first is a hot cocoa mug with 2 removable marshmallows!

barkbox-december-2016-0032

Buckles absolutely loves the little marshmallows with this toy, which was expected, since he loved the little dumplings from earlier in the year!

Stella the Snow Bunny – Value $10

The second plush toy was a little snow bunny!

It has little skis and everything!

Both toys were very well received – he kept playing with both after taking photos.

Duck Party Platter – Value $6

The first treat this month was a bite-size duck treat.

Both treats ended up being perfect for Buckles this month. These duck treats were the second favorite, but he still loved them.

Nice Jerky Bites Chicken and Duck – Value $8

These were the favorite of the month – and he let us know right at the beginning of the photoshoot:

These are the perfect treat for him. He likes anything that is soft, chewy, and bite-size!

Dynamo Butcher’s Block Beef Chew – Value $4

For the past couple of months, they’ve always included a rawhide/chew in the box. While Buckles doesn’t chew these, I can see why most dogs would love receiving one every month.

Verdict: This was my favorite BarkBox yet – every item was great for the theme and loved by our dog – what more could I ask for! All of our friends and family that get this box always mention how much their dogs love it, and how they think every box is for them – I think that’s why I just love gifting and receiving this box.

What did you think of the December BarkBox?

  1. I JUST subbed and the coupon code: Get a free extra month when you sign up for a 6 or 12 month subscription (SUBADDICTION) resulted in get 6 months for 5 month price. Not a free extra month – just a free month.

I think that’s a good out in case I don’t love it to get 7 months worth of stuff – but wanted to clarify out there.

  2. Hail yes on the click bait remark. I love pictures of Buckles!!! I only come into this one because of Buckles and the too cute pictures you post.

    • Aw thanks! We’ll keep the Buckles pictures coming! 🙂

  3. Wow, bark box must vary quite a bit. I got total trash for my small dog. The only item I got that matches yours is that crappy bone. The other items were inappropriate or too large for a small dog. Unfortunately, I subbed for 6 months and they don’t refund. They will replace one item, big deal when you have a full box of trash.

    • Same for me! I have the small dog box and got heavy chewier stuff and large treats. I’ve told them not to send those items and they’ve always sent 2 plush toys. I got some huge rubber champagne bottle that is awful. I did get the cute bunny but this box is the worst one they’ve ever sent me. The hard rubber toy is way too big and the treats are too large. I hope it’s just an off month for them because they usually send such great stuff!

  4. We get the Super Chewer Box as my dogs would destroy the toys in the regular in seconds. For those who are interested *spoiler alert* this months box included a Super Chewer Max the Marching Penguin that is hallow inside (think Kong treat stuffer but instead black penguin). Also inside was a Orbee-tuff ball (I have other toys from this company and they are fantastic for super chewers), a pigs ear, Yetti Dog Treat Biscotti (very interesting), a bag of the Nice Jerky Bites (same as above) and a box of Treat Simple Prime Rib Dinner. I’ve been a subscriber off an on throughout the years, usually around the holidays so my fur babies each get an amazing gift under the tree. I have to say they have only gotten better and better. What I love most is the chew guarantee, if my one of my dogs destroys the toy they’ll replace it with a better one. Honestly though, I haven’t had to yet, the toys are made to last. We still have a few from 4 years ago floating around. I only wish I would have gotten a regular box for my parents pups, they would have loved this one.

  5. Buckles is such a supermodel. My Louie cat would love those plush. He carries stuffed animals around the house. He would probably like the treats also. I think this might be my favorite dog sub and I don’t have a dog. Or maybe it’s Buckles, super elf.

    • Wait til you see his Santa sweater! 🙂

  6. Buckles is adorable! Read this review just to soak up the cuteness! Merry Christmas to all of you, especially the elf!

    • Yay! Merry Christmas to you, too! 🙂

  7. I’m hoping my pup gets the mug with marshmallows! She received the peas in a pod last year, as well as the cherry pie and dumplings this year and they are always her favorite toys! I even emailed Barkbox thanking them and asking if she can always get that style toy as its her favorite. Our mailman said he couldn’t deliver the box on Saturday so hopefully it’ll be there when I get home. I receive several subs, and my little Dixie knows she gets one as well, but she is starting to think every box is hers these days ;D

  8. Buckles is definitely click bait 😊 I don’t even have pets but I look at reviews just to see him. So cute

    • Thanks!! His reviews are definitely my favorite! 🙂
