Retro Pop Box is a subscription service that sends pop culture items and relics from your favorite decade! My favorite decade is the 1970's. I was barely alive then, but I love the fashion and culture from that era. They also offer an 80's box and a 90's box!

Close Encounters Ugly Holiday Sweater Exclusive T-Shirt - Value $15?

How perfect is this tee? I totally needed a tee with Close Encounters completely depicted in ugly Christmas sweater form! I actually really love all the ugly Christmas sweater designs (of everything!) that appear this time of year.

Star Wars Wooden Blocks - Value $3.68 USD

Haha! This is a reference to the absolute worst thing that has ever happened in the history of television (in 1978). And here it is.

70s-retro-pop-box-december-2016-coaster

Bing & Bowie Coaster - Value $5?

This is another exclusive item, so I'm guessing at the value. This little cloth coaster is so awesome! It's a depiction of the music video for "Little Drummer Boy," a duet that Bing Crosby and David Bowie performed on Bing Crosby's Christmas Special that aired in 1977. I loved both of them.

This is also our Fun Fact item of the month. It makes me sad to read that it was such a difficult experience for them because this song is one of my favorite holiday tunes.

Santa Claus is Coming to Town Wrapping Paper - Value $5?

It's another Retro Pop Box Exclusive! I have to admit that I'm kind of glad they no longer show this Christmas Special during the holidays. It scared me when I was a little kid! Claymation was so creepy.

70s-retro-pop-box-december-2016-slinky

70s-retro-pop-box-december-2016-slinky-2

Plastic Slinky - Value $1?

It's a slinky! My eight-year-old grabbed this up and started playing with it immediately, so I guess it's never really lost its odd appeal. I told him the ones in the 70's were made of metal and were mainly good for ripping your arm and leg hair out accidentally. He laughed pretty hard at that.

Verdict: I love my 1970's Retro Pop Box so much! Every month is awesome, but their holiday curation last month and this have been truly excellent. The value of everything this month totals about $30, but my estimates may be off. It clears the cost of the box, so I'm happy.

Santa Claus is coming to Town is definitely still shown every year. Watched it this last weekend and it was on several times. Maybe they don’t show it where you live?? I actually think claymation was awesome. It was quite innovative for the times.

This box is quite interesting. I might have to try the 80s or 90s one as those are the two decades I grew up in. I loved slinkies when I was a kid too!

Kind of surreal watching the video on the day Carrie Fischer passed!

...

You must have linked the wrong video, as the holiday special is certainly the very best of all the Star Wars movies.

Lol to the Slinky hair removal method.

There are real items that work on a similar principle. Look for “hair removal spring tool” on Amazon. (Although those are mostly small, for the face.)

Omg I wonder if the slinky is where they got the idea for the Epilady in the 80’s?! Which I also had. So. Awful.
