Trunk Club for Women Subscription Review – November 2016

Trunk Club is a clothing styling service for both men and women. Subscribers work closely with their stylist to find a selection of pieces to try on at home, and they receive a trunk shortly thereafter. Trunks can be ordered as often as you like, so you can try it once, or have a trunk sent to you quarterly or monthly. Or even more frequently!

My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

The Subscription Box: Trunk Club

The Cost: $25 styling fee, credited towards any items you choose to keep, plus the cost of whatever you keep

The Products: Ten clothing items hand-selected by a stylist for you to try on at home

Ships to: Their website states that they ship to the contiguous 48 states only, for free, but it also states that there is a shipping and return fee to ship to Alaska and Hawaii. They do not ship internationally.

Good to Know: Trunk Club does price matching!

So first, a little more about how Trunk Club works. When I signed up, I took a pretty lengthy style questionnaire online. Then I was matched with a stylist, Kelly, who asked me even more about what I like and what I was looking for via an online chat. Based on this information, she selected ten items for me to try on at home. She then sent me a link to preview all my items! This month I decided to try everything she selected.

My box finally arrived! This notice was in my paperwork. Apparently, subscribers used to have ten days to try everything on, but now it has been reduced to the standard five days.

This packet was also included in my trunk.

This is a note from my stylist, Kelly. I chatted with her before she selected my items, so she is speaking to why she chose these items based on our conversation.

This is my invoice. It lists the items I was actually sent and the cost to keep each item. My $25 styling fee will be deducted from anything I decide to keep. There is also a reminder to provide feedback on their website or app about how well each item worked for me.

On the back of the invoice are instructions for returning the items I don’t want to keep. I can drop my box back off at any UPS location, or I can schedule a free pickup through the Trunk Club app!

These items were also in the packet. When I’ve finished repackaging the items I don’t want to keep in the box, I just put this return label on it and use the tape straps to tape it back up! So convenient!

Pleat Front V-Neck Shell by Sejour – Cost to keep $69

My husband (the photographer) really liked this piece on me. I have a growing fondness for eggplant (the color, not the vegetable), and I think this is a really unique design for a shell. I really like it!

Stretch Roll Cuff Ankle Jeans by Kut From The Kloth – Cost to keep $99

You know how sometimes you just put on a pair of jeans and they instantly feel like they were made for your body? That happened with these jeans. They are so soft and comfortable! I love them! I don’t know how flattering they are, though, plus I’m not really in the market for jeans right now. I’m completely torn!

One Button Blazer by Vince Camuto – Cost to keep $165

Wow. That’s a lot of white. This fit well, but this is not really my style.

Cowl Neck Tunic Sweater by Caslon – Cost to keep $79

First of all, I love this color, and I have absolutely nothing in this shade. Having said that, I’m not sure this fit is right for me. It’s the right size, but I just feel like it’s too big in general for someone short like myself. I get that it’s supposed to be a tunic, but it feels like maybe a bit too much.

Cold Shoulder Top by Sejour – Cost to keep $69

This top is super cute, flattering, and comfy! Triple threat! I just wish it felt appropriate for the season.

Bomber Jacket by Sejour – Cost to keep $129

Bomber jackets have never really been my style, but this is a pretty nice one. I think it looks okay on me, but I’m not in love with it.

Smocked Off the Shoulder Top by Sejour – Cost to keep $59

I felt super sexy when I tried this top on! I don’t think it looks very sexy in the pictures, though. I love the sleeves and the color and the bare shoulders. One again, torn!

Geo Burnout Trapeze Dress by Vince Camuto – Cost to keep $188

Kelly and I chatted about holiday party wear, and she was kind enough to send a couple of dresses over that might suit the occasion. I think this dress is really cool conceptually, but it’s just not flattering on me. I think it would look amazing on someone tall.

Lace Overlay Sheath Dress – Cost to keep $188

Okay, hear me out. Yes, I need to be wearing some kind of shapewear under this to smooth everything out, BUT… Y’all this dress is amazing! I love it! I love the color, and I think it’s super flattering. I love the neckline, too. It’s not cheap, but if everyone reading this would just be so kind as to invite me to your holiday party, it would completely be worth it!

Verdict: This was my second package from Trunk Club, and it was awesome! Kelly did a fantastic job picking out pieces she knew I would love, but in our next chat, I think I need to remind her of my boho chic aesthetic. There were a few pieces that weren’t my style at all. Then again, I never would have picked out that lace dress for myself, and it’s such a winner! Having other people pick out things for you to try on is one of the things that makes styling subscriptions so fun! I’m turning into a huge Trunk Club fan!

  1. I think the trapeze dress is my favorite!!! It looks lovely on you.

  2. That blue lace dress looks really gorgeous on you. There are a few items in the past that I haven’t bought because I didn’t think I would get enough wear out of them, and I still remember them and regret it. When you find something that looks great on you and that you feel great in, don’t let it get away. You’ll find opportunities to wear it!

  3. I love your reviews and also wanted to come in that the lace blue dress is stunning on you. Your coloring and hair just pop next to the dark blue.

  4. So many nice pieces. The lace overlay dress is amazing on you!

  5. I love that cool black geo dress! It does look good on you, but you would need equally cool, yet non-competitive shoes to really rock it. Every time I see a bright pink and black pattern shirt in one of your reviews, before I even read what you wrote, I think, that’s so Anna and her husband likes this combo on her. That’s your go-to, always works look, the deeper, brighter pink with black. I love the off-the-shoulder top, great style and color – the lines of that look great on you. And the jeans do fit you so well…but at $99 bucks if you don’t see them being a valuable addition, send them back. I do think you will enjoy that big pale gray (?) sweather, even though it feels big. I think you will like it if you need to go somewhere on a chilly night.

While I don’t think any of this stuff is horrible, for me, the rest was just meh…none of it worth the price tag, not enough wow. That said, you make it all look good!

    • I agree the geo dress is awesome on you. Think about keeping it too.

  6. The one button blazer looks amazing on you!

    • Thank you Lynsey!

  7. Anna, I think you need to find a way to get that blue lace dress. It looks great on you and you love it. While I like a lot if the other pieces this is the first time I gave ever really heard you fight for a piece. You need that dress!

I also think those jeans are super cute on you too. A good pair of flattering jeans is a great investment considering how much you can wear them.

I have to mention the tunic. Anna, no natter how you wear that tunic it’s not a keeper. As a fellow short person it’s the sleeves that are really bad. Unless you get them altered you will forever be messing around with those sleeves. Why waste money in that tunic when that dress and jeans are calling out to you?!? 😉

I like the other tops as well but felt like if you are going to purchase Summer type tops (I know you could layer the shell, etc.) they should be at a discount because who knows what bigger, better thing you’ll want to pay full price for will be out there when the warmer seasons come back around.

    • Thanks loba! I know, I neeeeed that dress!

  8. First and most importantly, you look downright gorgeous in that lace dress, Anna! Seriously, the color is perfect on you and the cut & style are just the right amount of elegant and festive without being too fussy! I love it! I think it could be a great piece for so many occasions, so its gotta be a keeper! I also think the burgundy top is really pretty on you too. It could look really chic with black skinnies, maybe some black boots or heels, a leather jacket and a black velvet choker. 🙂

Second- is anyone else having trouble getting the polls to load? I typically use Chrome, and lately the polls wont open and it just says “Loading poll” in that spot. I tried it on IE and it could load but was having major issues on the page, so that was a no go. Anyone else using Chrome having issues with it loading?

    • Thank you so much m! I can’t speak to the technical issue, but I appreciate your awesome feedback!

    • No polls on Chrome for me either.

  9. You need to keep the blue lace dress! It looks amazing!!!! I love your reviews, especially the voting portion. Keep it up!

    • Thank you June! That makes my day!

  10. I loved the first outfit! The jeans are super flattering especially when compared to some of the other jeans you have received from other boxes. Definitely a winner. I really liked the cranberry top on you, Everyone needs an article of clothing that makes them feel sexy! You have an awesome stylist.

    • Thanks Tammy! I know, Kelly rules!

  11. I think the cowl neck tunic would look great with leggings. It’s a beautiful color on you! (The Caslon items I own have washed and worn well, too.) And the navy dress is timeless! You look great, and I’m impressed by your stylist’s picks 🙂

    • Thanks Jessica!

  12. Next time, would you mind including how much you ended up spending? Just wondering!! Thanks and you look great!!

    • Thanks Morgan! I definitely will if I have decided, which… I just haven’t decided yet! 🙂

  13. Anna – I love your reviews! I was plus-sized for 30 years (happily lost 200lbs 3 yrs ago) and I just wanted to say once you find something that fits and you love – get it!! There’s so much “grandma clothes” for plus-sized!! Ugh! That blue lace dress looked gorgeous on you – make it your go to dress for weddings, parties, night out without the kids, whatever! Get some mileage out of it! 🙂 The print top might be out of season, but it also looked fantastic on you – save it for spring. The red bare shoulder top was a great length and colour, same with the eggplant sleeveless. And the jeans looked comfy and stylish – how can you go wrong with great fitting jeans?! You are beautiful!

    • Omg thank you so much Resa! You are too sweet!

  14. I actually think both dresses look really beautiful on you! As a fellow plus size woman I love seeing your try-on posts. You look really good in that first set and the last dress, those are definitely my favorites. And trust me—if the jeans made that first impression on you, you should keep them!

    • Thank you Hannah! It means so much to me to hear that other plus size women are getting something meaningful out of my reviews. It’s so great to hear!

  15. You have to keep that lace dress! It is perfection on you.

    • LOL! Thank you Heather!

  16. I’ve noticed when I think something is really beautiful I inhale a little bit (more than usual). Lol– it may sound weird, but I think it gives me my real opinion without any filters! I definitely did that with the red off the shoulder top and the lace dress. They are gorgeous and perfect for the season and really do look stunning on you!!

    • Wow, thank you so much Wendy!!!

  17. Oh btw the tunic would look good belted with skinny jeans and heels!

    • Good thinking Karen! It really does not take much to convince me to keep stuff, haha!

  18. I’m in love with that last dress!!!! Spanx is definitely my best friend, lol. The dress is gorgeous on you- I think that’s a piece that could use for years to come. I love the lace, and that shade of blue compliments your skin and hair perfectly! Keep it!

    • Thank you Jenn! And a big extra thanks to the makers of Spanx, lol! I think I have to keep it!

  19. I voted to keep everything except for the black trapeze dress. That dress doesn’t look like it would flatter anyone. Everything else looks beautiful on you!

  20. Anna! That eggplant top and lace dress are amazing on you! So fab. ♡♡

    • Thanks Haley! That means so much to me coming from a supermodel like yourself! 💕💕💕

      • Aw shucks, Anna. I’m just a writer, too! I love reading your clothing reviews.
