WOWBOX is a Japanese snacks and sweets subscription service that offers multiple themed boxes.

Currently there are four themes in various sizes (Small, Regular, or Large). The Fun & Tasty Box is the original box filled with “all the fun, tasty, and weird treats that Japan is known for,” including DIY kits. The Kawaii & Beauty Box contains kawaii packaged beauty-themed products as well as low-calorie snacks and health-conscious treats. The New & Limited Box contains new, limited, or exclusive items that are hot off the shelves from Japan. The Dagashi Box is a mini-sized snack box filled with traditional dagashi treats “from a bygone era.”

The Large New & Limited WOWBOX usually includes 9-11 items. This month I counted 12 snacks total.

Descriptions, nutrition facts, and allergy information can be found online in the account information section.

wowbox-september-2016-chocosand

Harvest Choco Sand (Vanilla Choco)

This is, to my pleasant surprise, like a tastier, less crumbly version of Oreo cookies! The wafers are crispy while the smooth, creamy filling complements the chocolatey taste of the cookies.

Fit’s Gum (Slime)

This is a citrus flavored gum featuring the mascot from the Square Enix game, Dragon Quest. The flavor is strong at first but then mellows out to a citrusy sweetness.

Natsu No Fruits Kore Ippon Tropical Fruits

This juice cocktail contains ten types of tropical fruit. I can easily identify the orange, mango, and pineapple flavors. The carton reminds me of school lunches!

wowbox-september-2016-pretz

Ultra Slim Pretz (Salt Butter)

This is like the angel hair pasta of pretzels! Each slim, crunchy stick is packed with savory, buttery flavor. I inhaled my bag right after opening it. Now I’m left with remorse and a strong urge to find more on the internet.

wowbox-september-2016-marshmallow

Rich Choco Marshmallow

These are individually wrapped marshmallows with chocolate filling. The texture is plumper and denser than your average marshmallow. The chocolate filling is a delicious bonus too.

wowbox-september-2016-rings

Boukun Habanero Haba Lemon

These crispy, circular chips taste lemony and spicy. Spicy snacks are not my cup of tea but I did enjoy eating these in moderation.

wowbox-september-2016-caramel-corn

Caramel Corn (Apple Pie)

I’ve had this snack before in the “original” flavor and this one is just as delicious! I can kind of detect the apple pie but the most robust flavor is caramel.

wowbox-september-2016-candy

Nazo No Aji Hi-Chew Assort

These are individually wrapped Hi-Chew candies in assorted flavors. I love the gummy, chewy texture and have no complaints about any of the flavors.

wowbox-september-2016-pineapple

Kaju Gummy (Pineapple)

Each gummy fruit snack is made from real fruit juice and packed with pineapple flavor. These are the tastiest gummies I’ve eaten in a while!

wowbox-september-2016-sugar

Colorful Tubu Candy

These are little packets of colored pop rocks. They taste like sugar crystals with a slight kick. I like that the candies come in snack portions as well.

wowbox-september-2016-mentos

Jui C (Magical Banana)

This is a tube of button shaped candies with pieces of banana flavored bits embedded inside. I have received this in a different flavor before and really liked it. These banana ones taste just as yummy.

Mentos (Mango Soda)

These are mango soda flavored Mentos. It’s always fun to see what kinds of flavors popular brands market in other countries. I’m happy to say that mango soda Mentos taste great! I would be happy if this was offered in the US market.

Verdict: My first WOWBOX is a huge hit! My favorite snack is a toss up between the Harvest Choco Sand cookies and Kaju pineapple gummies. Overall, I think they hit the nail on the head with the “New and Limited” theme. Every snack or flavor was unfamiliar to me. I liked the mix of sweet and savory snacks, too. The cost breakdown this month is about $2.92 per snack, which is a little on the high side considering some of the items are on the small side (such as the gum and Mentos). However, I also consider this as paying a premium for getting the latest, hot-off-the-shelves Japanese snacks that you’re unlikely to find in the US.

What are your thoughts on WOWBOX? Are you interested in any of the themes?

WOWBOX has gone through some changes and has been reborn! We not only bring the latest snacks from convenience stores, such as the newest and limited Pocky and Kit Kat but now go beyond by searching regional brands that are exclusively sold in Japan and loved by many locals. We have improved our ser... read more.

It does ship worldwide right? I can let it ship to Belgium according to the site’s information

Nancy Su

Yes, you’re right, they ship to “over 70 countries” according to the FAQ but they don’t say which ones :/

shawn

Actually if you scroll down the top page of the site you can find where exactly they ship to. http://wowbox.jp/

This looks really good! Even the items that I don’t think fit my personal preferences look so fun that I’d probably want to try them!
