Loot Crate DX is Loot Crate's first monthly Deluxe subscription. They pitch it as an "elevated assortment of collectibles, apparel, home goods and more from your favorite pop culture franchises every month." They also promise no crossover items from the Core Loot Crate box.

This month's theme was Speed.

Loot Crate kindly sent us this box to review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

This month went for quality over quantity. There was a bigger focus on movie franchises for the DX box this month - featuring Back to the Future, Mad Max, and Transformers.

Each month comes with an exclusive pin, as well. The Speed themed pin is a hot rod - and it kind of reminds me of Fury Road a bit, too.

Paper Airplane Baseball Tee - Value $15-20?

This month's shirt was an odd choice. It was a stretch in following the theme speed and it didn't capture a franchise. It's simply about flying a paper plane when you were little. An odd choice, in my opinion.

It's a baseball tee, so the arm length comes down about 3/4 off the length of your arm.

Transformers Messenger Bag - Value $40+?

This messenger bag is awesome. It feels good on my shoulder, and also feels like it's a high-quality bag that will last.

It has and under-arm strap here which is good for biking - or just in general if you bend over.

The inner-lining is full-on Transformers! The pattern and patch are also exclusive to Loot Crate. It easily fit my 15" Macbook Pro with tons of room to spare - I could have used this recently!

Back to the Future 1:24 Scale DeLorean Replica - Value $22 on Amazon

I actually own all 3 of these 1:24 scale replica DeLoreans - I highly recommend them!

This is the model from the first installment of Back to the Future. It comes with a removable lightning rod, also - but who wants to display this without it! It's iconic!

The Art of Mad Max Fury Road - Value $20?

I based my value guess on the value of the hardcover on Amazon. This is the final item in the box, and it's a gem. Anyone who loved Fury Road will love browsing through this book.

You'll find a ton of good info about shooting the movie, and even more beautiful photography.

In case you haven't seen this - I had to mention this video of Fury Road without all the special effects, it's still incredible! What an amazing job done by George Miller.

Verdict: While I didn't like the shirt (graphic or style), I really liked the other items. The messenger bag really stands out as the highlight. I'm not even a big Transformers fan, but I'll use this the next time I need a bag - it's got tons of storage, and I may be valuing it low based on some other designs I'm seeing out there. If you love the 1:24 scale DeLorean, I highly recommend picking up the 3-pack from all 3 movies - they're perfect for display. This was a strong box for me - DX needs to have a high-value hero item every month, and I think this has just that.

Am I crazy that I liked the T-shirt? Then I used to play this paper airplane game on PC years ago. I agree that this box was a little light on items. Also, I definitely prefer graphic novels over artwork books despite the fact that I have liked the artwork books they have sent so far. Debating whether to get it this month. It will be the first DX I’ve ever skipped. The only thing I want is the walking dead item and the pin cause I don’t want to miss any pins. Have you seen the new underwear sub? 15 bucks a pair?? A little steep IMO. I’d probably subscribe if they sent 2 pairs a month like they do with the socks.

I just got this box today and must admit that I am getting more disappointed with every box I get from Loot Crate. Overall I would assume that there would be more than 4 things in such a giant box. I agree that the quality of the bag is great but I am not a fan of Transformers at all, likely I will give it to the next person I see as a gift. The shirt is pretty terrible and doesn’t make sense for the ‘theme’ they chose this month. I did like the DeLorian and book, but for the price I paid I am left wishing for more..
Honestly, this month especially feels less like they are picking quality items and more like trying to fit whatever leftovers they have in their warehouse into a ‘theme’ that makes sense. Really, something from The Flash would have rocked, but instead I have a shirt with a paper airplane on it.
To cap it all off the box wasn’t taped shut very well and broke open when the mailman pulled it out of the truck spilling the contents into a mud puddle. Hopefully it gets better.

I think Barbie needs a replica DeLorean. I believe her scale is 1:6
