Horror Block doesn't typically have themes - but, this month was dedicated to the best horror writer of all time - Stephen King!
Each month comes with an information card that will detail all the items in the box.
Each month always comes with a $10 ShirtPunch voucher that you can use on shirts and toys. But, this month also came with a $10 credit to a Nerd Block shop. The URL referenced on the card doesn't work yet - so I'm assuming it's really new? My best guess is that they will have a shop just like their sister site, ShirtPunch. We'll wait and see - it launches October 20th!
Misery Shirt - Value $15?
This month's Stephen King themed shirt featured Misery! I haven't read or watched this movie/book in a long time, in fact, it's probably about time to revisit. I think this was also one of the first Stephen King movies I had ever seen - James Caan and Kathy Bates are great in it.
REDRUM Key Hook - Value $15?
This is what I'd consider the hero item of the month - a REDRUM key hook!
I appreciate that they even got the door color right with it!
The Shining is required reading and viewing for anyone new to Stephen King's world. It's easily the best Stephen King movie (even though he hated it), and the book is even better - it's really a great place to start!
What I definitely agree with King about the movie is that it lacks the bit of heart that the book had. Jack tried to force the evil out and be good the entire time - but was just crazy almost throughout the movie.
Pennywise Plush - Value $10?
Nightmare fuel is now full. My fingers are crossed that the new movies will finally do the book justice. While Tim Curry was fantastic as Pennywise, the movies felt like they only scratched the surface of what the book has to offer.
The book is as good as they come. It's also really the only book where I've been uneasy reading it - he really captured pure evil in those pages.
Norma Watson Autograph - Value ??
They've included an autographed item this month from P.J. Soles who played Norma Watson, the senior class president and bully from Carrie. This was another movie that I had seen early on (both my brother and sister were very into Stephen King books) so this brings back a lot of memories for me.
I haven't seen the remake of this - is it worth watching?
The Dark Tower Art Print - Value $10?
The final Stephen King item of the month is a print featuring Roland and The Dark Tower. What a series, and hopefully, an awesome upcoming movie. If you're a Stephen King fan, there's a lot to be excited/hopeful for on the cinematic front in the coming years!
Rue Morgue: Monstro Bizarro - Value $14.95
The final item is a bit different from the norm this month. Instead of the month Rue Morgue, we get a special Rue Morgue edition - Monstro Bizarro. This book traverses numerous creatures, some famous, like Bigfoot and Loch Ness Monster, and some hardly known, like The Bishopville Lizard Man or Ogopogo - it's full of interesting stuff.
Verdict: My thought when I saw a Stephen King themed Horror Block was "FINALLY!" - but, unboxing this one left me wanting a little more. The REDRUM key ring was fantastic, and that was the kind of items I was hoping to see more of - torn from the pages. Ultimately, I was a bit let down during unboxing, but maybe I just had really high hopes - what did you Stephen King fans think? There were definitely some fun items this month, and there's no reason not to do another Stephen King themed box - can we get a second try?
What did you think of the September Horror Block?
