This Savage Song by Victoria Schwab – Retail Value $17.99 (On Amazon for $10.36)
Book Summary from Amazon:
There’s no such thing as safe in a city at war, a city overrun with monsters. In this dark urban fantasy from acclaimed author Victoria Schwab, a young woman and a young man must choose whether to become heroes or villains—and friends or enemies—with the future of their home at stake. The first of two books, This Savage Song is a must-have for fans of Holly Black, Maggie Stiefvater, and Laini Taylor.
Kate Harker and August Flynn are the heirs to a divided city—a city where the violence has begun to breed actual monsters. All Kate wants is to be as ruthless as her father, who lets the monsters roam free and makes the humans pay for his protection. All August wants is to be human, as good-hearted as his own father, to play a bigger role in protecting the innocent—but he’s one of the monsters. One who can steal a soul with a simple strain of music. When the chance arises to keep an eye on Kate, who’s just been kicked out of her sixth boarding school and returned home, August jumps at it. But Kate discovers August’s secret, and after a failed assassination attempt the pair must flee for their lives. In This Savage Song, Victoria Schwab creates a gritty, seething metropolis, one worthy of being compared to Gotham and to the four versions of London in her critically acclaimed fantasy for adults, A Darker Shade of Magic. Her heroes will face monsters intent on destroying them from every side—including the monsters within.
This book was in my Amazon cart, and I’m so glad I didn’t purchase it! I absolutely love Victoria Schwab (I highly recommend A Darker Shade of Magic) and I can’t wait to read this book!
This book also came with a promotion pin:
And every Uppercase box book is signed by the author:
Custom Stamped Book Lover Pencil Set - Value $8?
This is an Uppercase Box exclusive and I love it! Though, I must admit my future goals include a phrase that is more like "Read more, sleep more."
Vintage Sticky Notes Set - Value $11
This vintage inspired post-it note set is so cute! Perfect for book notes, book marks, etc.!
Verdict: This box has a value of about $30. I'm estimating on the pencils, and the book is signed, so that may make the value higher to many people. I'm almost always happy with this subscription. I think the curation is great, and it seems like my taste in YA books is similar to Lisa's so that works out very well!
Plus this is one of the best-reviewed YA books I've seen released this year!
What do you think of this month's Uppercase box?
OWLCRATE July 2016 SPOILER ALERT:
FYI – Owl Crate and Uppercase Box are offering subscribers who subscribed to both boxes a refund in the amount of half the cost of the Amazon price of this book.
I totally understand that both of these book subscription boxes secure their books many months in advance, so there was nothing they could do about 2 months back-to-back of identical books, and I think this is really an impressive offering.
