Birchbox CEW Mass Appeal Box Review – 2016

Birchbox July 2016 - 1

Every year, Birchbox teams up with the CEW Insiders’ Choice Beauty Awards to put together boxes featuring award-winning beauty products in both the prestige (aka higher price point), and mass market (drugstore brand) categories.

This review is of the Mass Appeal box.

My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

The Box: Limited Edition: Mass Appeal – 2016 Birchbox for CEW

The Cost: $15

The Products: Each box contains:

  • ChapStick® Total Hydration 100% Natural – Soothing Vanilla – Full-size
  • Aveeno® Daily Moisturizing Sheer Hydration Lotion – Sample-size
  • Simple® Skincare Micellar Cleansing Water – Full-size
  • Olay Regenerist Luminous Overnight Mask – Full-size
  • Bioré® Deep Cleansing Charcoal Pore Strips – 2 strips

Birchbox July 2016 - 3

Each box comes with an info card detailing the items included.

Birchbox July 2016 - 9

Olay Regenerist Luminous Overnight Mask – FULL SIZE! Value $24

I love that this item alone more than covers the cost of the box! This mask is pretty great, too. It’s a lightweight gel that absorbs quickly, and it left my skin feeling smooth and hydrated. I really like the subtle scent, too.

(I’m already thinking of buying another CEW Mass Appeal box to get a back up!)

Birchbox July 2016 - 10

ChapStick Total Hydration 100% Natural in Soothing Vanilla – FULL SIZE! Value $3

I’ve sampled this before thanks to subscription boxes, and it is one of my favorite drugstore beauty discoveries of the year. It’s super moisturizing, it has a great vanilla flavor, and I LOVE that it is made from 100% Natural ingredients. (And they just launched tinted versions of this lip balm, too!)

Birchbox July 2016 - 11

Simple Skincare Micellar Cleansing Water – FULL SIZE! Value $7

Micellar water seems to be a big beauty trend this year! This makeup remover is very gentle and unlike some makeup removers that can leave your skin feeling dry, this one actually made my skin feel more hydrated!

Birchbox July 2016 - 2

Bioré Deep Cleansing Charcoal Pore Strips – 1 Strip Value $1

(FYI – the product listing states that this box includes 2 strips, but I only received 1.)

I’ve been using Biore pore strips for years, and I’m always happy to get more in a box! There’s just something wonderful about a beauty product that gives you a clear before-and-after!

If you haven’t tried these before, I can’t recommend them enough. Just make sure your skin is wet, apply the nose strip, wait 10-15 minutes, then slowly remove and the strip literally takes the dirt and oil out of your clogged pores! Magic!

Birchbox July 2016 - 12

Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Sheer Hydration Lotion – 1 oz Value $.60

This lotion is described as having a “powder-like finish.” I didn’t feel that way to me, but it is a super lightweight lotion that left my skin feeling smooth and ready for makeup!

Verdict: This box has a value of about $35.60. I think that’s great for the price, and they really included some of my favorite (and new favorite) drugstore items in this box! I will use every single item, and I love that there were 3 full-size items in the box!

  1. I used my points to get this box, I paid $.40, it came today, but I didn’t recieve no pore strip in mine, and the micellar water was leaked out in the box and there’s only about a quarter of the liquid left and it ruined the box. I emailed them, waiting to hear back, they usually take care of every issue I’ve had. But great box.

    • Oh no! Hope they send a replacement soon! My micellar water also leaked a bit but it was packaged in a heat seal baggie so the leak was contained in there only. I only received one pore strip instead of the advertised two like most people pointed out. Really great box though. I’m very happy with it.

  2. Ordered this last week and still hasn’t even shipped from their wearhouse :-p. They are really dropping the ball these days.

  3. Just got my box. This sleeping mask is 4.5 ozs! It’s huge. Great value!

  4. Simple Micellar water is THE BEST! Apparently it can also be used as a toner at the same time! 2 in 1 🙂

  5. Liz, did you use the Aveeno on your face? It’s a body lotion…

    • I was wondering the same thing! I was thinking… isn’t that for the body?

  6. There is also the Limited Edition: Prestige Headliners – 2016 Birchbox for CEW for $18.00. Not sure if it’s already been listed here, but thought I would mention it.

  7. Hmmm, I might have to eat those words. I just realized I still have points. To bite or not to bite, that is the question.

  8. I don’t think so.

  9. I only received one pore strip as well.

  10. I like it! Done. For those who want to use up their leftover BB points I don’t think you can go wrong by spending them on this box.

Also, the code BBSHOP worked on this for free shipping. 🙂

    • Thank you the shipping was the only thing holding me back and the code worked 😀

    • This is precisely what I did! I cancelled my sub weeks ago and was looking for something I really wanted to spend my points on. So last week I got this box + a lip tint with my points + code BBSHOP for free shipping and spent $0.00. Wonderful feeling! Was so proud of myself LOL 🙂

      • Good job! I was proud of myself for only spending $1. I had $14 worth of points. And also, after reading the review I’m SUPER excited to try the pore strip!
