I cancelled my subscription. Between the points change and these boxes full of repeats/unexciting products I’m done. Staying with Play!, Target and Allure Beauty Thrills.
Would someone mind letting me know, do you get the actual box regardless of if you go with the feature curated box or sample choice?

there’s 2 different designs for the boxes each month – the curated is one design and the sample choice is another. so either way, you do get an actual box
*but it seems that last month some people got just plain pink boxes I think? I got the designed one, but I remember reading some comments about some boxes being plain

I’ve got $10 in points burning a hole in my pocket from when I was subscribed and I think I may use them for the curated box. It’s a nice box. While I don’t love lip stick, I love that color and this would give me the chance to try it out. I know I love the spray in conditioner and I can always use face wipes.
I have to say there are some nice products featured this month, the problem is there’s nothing new. It’s all brands and products that have been BB staples for years.

I chose the curated box because it actually looks like it’s worth $10, unlike my last box! It seems a little silly because I joined Birchbox to try new-to-me products but I’m not interested in the three individual choices and I’m afraid of what my 2nd product would be if they have to choose for me.
I went with the paste since it’s a product that is completely new to me.
That’s what I decided on as well. And well I like the surprises.
Ugh. I can’t decide whether I want to try the paste or get the Stila in Patina.
I chose the curated box because I like every item in it and want to try the lip stuff. Hoping to get the oil and paste in future boxes along with the LOC gloss!

I just signed up for Birchbox the other day and today I got to choose the feature box for August or sample choice. I choose the feature box because I want that red spray and the lipstick. So to answer your question you can choose whichever one you want 🙂

This is the first time I’ve ever skipped sample choice. I wish none of the above were an option!
Went with curated, which I rarely do. But I have really liked the Beauty Protect and the Marcelle BB and the Stila (in another shade) and I love wipes. This is a really good and usable box for me even if it’s not new stuff I’m discovering.
The curated box looks pretty good to me, I think I will pick it.
Tempted to resub for the curated box. I got a total value of $20.06 on it and I must be greedy because I still don’t feel like it’s enough for a full $10 box now, LOL.
That’s because other $10-$15 boxes have much higher value and the points used to make up for the low value.
Birchbox also sends out A LOT of repeats! Along with those stupid perfume samples that I could walk into any mall and be handed…. I am cancelling my subscription when my contract is ends. It is very disappointing. Seems like they are starting their own brand, and they believe that it will take off, I tried their lipstick; I threw it out after the first use. It was crap.
I picked the Beauty Protector Protect & Oil. Got the curated box last month. It’s good, but I think I really like being surprised. BB has done a pretty good job in guessing at what I like. 🙂
The coconut/argon wipes and Hum nutrition drink look pretty good to me, but I just went ahead and ordered the Hum on a separate order.
I really want to try that R + Co shampoo paste, but the curated actually looks pretty good too (I’d actually most of the items)

I have a full size of the paste and am not impressed with it. What is your hair texture/length/etc?

Its long-ish (past shoulders), kinda thin, frizzy/wavy. I don’t really do much with my hair
I have thicker straight hair, super long (small of back) oily roots and normal hair, natural redhead. It doesn’t do anything for my really oily roots and it has a sort of unpleasant texture to it. It seems like a great short hair product but it’s not very convenient for long hair. I got it as an add-on last July I believe? Sometime last summer. I wanted to love it so so bad.
I guess if I had a concise issue with it for me it’s harder to work in where I need and it weighs my hair down some of that makes sense so not sure if it would be more volume building for thinner hair or weight down, but with wavy hair maybe it would volume boost if it’s moderately wavy?
Did you try the (H)air Dry stuff from Bumble & bumble? That was really great in my damp hair! $15 for smaller size was worth it for way low maintenance days. I’ve been use the Oaui spray a lot too, grabbed a full size of that when it was an add-on but some people don’t like the smell. The Oribe is great but more sure how it works with wavy hair, anyone else know?
I’ll have to try that Bumble & Bumble stuff – it sounds familiar, so I probably have a sample of it somewhere I’m sure 🙂

After only 3 months and with their pts system changing, Birchbox was a big disappointment. The samples were always super small and hardly had anything to do with my profile. I got two really good samples in 3 months: a Burts Bees chap stick and a Laura Geller highlighter. With that in mind, I finally just canceled my sub yesterday. Times are hard… I can’t waste my money on “meh” subs when other subs are way better!
What happened to the choose 2 items? Or some such previous news?
Their ad said that everyone will get “two personalized” hair products, but didn’t actually say we’d get to pick those items. I guess by ‘personalize’ they mean we get to choose one item (which we know will in fact be what we want… well, out of the choices given), and they’ll ‘personalize’ the other item based on our profiles (ya, right!). If it’s a shampoo/conditioner sampler they pick for me, I just hope they both won’t be sample packs.
For one of my subs, I chose the curated box, and for the other I chose the Beauty Protector oil. I’m really looking forward to trying the Beauty Protector products for the first time. Everybody’s positive comments have made me so intrigued, and I’m hoping it works wonders for my tangly, frizzy hair.
That Beauty Protector spray is awesome and you smell like a cupcake!
