This is Why You’re Single – $13.21 on Amazon (retail price: $15.99)

I read the first two chapters, informative in my opinion, all told in an entertaining tone. The book has handy illustrations, charts, quizzes, and a section on deciphering text messages. No matter what the age, single woman are navigating dating in a technological era and text messages have taken over phone conversations, so this type of info is needed. From what I have glanced and read over it’s a short read, not complicated, informative and amusing.

The Crispery Crispycake Marshmallow Rice Treat/Rainbow Nonpareils – $4.25

The Crispery Crispycake toppings (nonpareils) were hard and the actual marshmallow treat was sweet and crunchy.  I shared with my friend and she agreed with me in regards to the taste and felt in “no way would I pay $5.00 for this”. Having experienced other marshmallow treats this was a let down but not a total loss of enjoyment minus the hard nonpareils.

Ms. Betty’s Original Bad-Ass Whipped Body Butter (4 oz.) – $10.00

The body butter is thick and creamy without a greasy residue. It left my skin soft, moisturized and the fruity scent lingered on me throughout the morning and into the early afternoon.

Soapgirl.co Grapefruit+Sea Salt – $7.00

This is a refreshing bar soap made locally with fresh organic ingredients.  A fruity, sweet smell upon opening and when in use the scent had faded making it a perfect match to layer with a scented lotion or cream after bathing.  The soap was sturdy, lathering and held its shape while showering. I enjoyed how it made my skin feel – amazing.

NCLA Rose Rock Nail Wraps – $16.00

These nail wraps are peachy, black, and white speckled and were included in the Nylon Magazine 2015 Beauty Awards. I have seen nail wraps in past subscription boxes and never got the allure of the item but this product fits the the theme of this subscription box, in my opinion.

Living Royal “Break Up” Ankle Socks – $8.00

100% Polyester/Machine Washable, One Size Fits All

A fun twist on dealing with a break up, the ankle socks include a message “It’s Not Me, It’s You.” “Included on the back of the package is a 4×6 lined sticker so you can write a heartfelt message”.

Screen Shot 2016-05-25 at 9.16.11 AM

As you can see by the photo, the ankle socks were a snug fit for my size ten feet. Not sure I would pass this on to someone I was breaking up with, written with a heartfelt message as suggested on the package. But maybe lounge socks to remind yourself that you are in a better place without him.

Me to We “Soko Market Bracelet”Set – $8.00

“This handmade piece is lovingly crafted by a mother in Kenya.  Each piece supports a clean water project in a Free The Children community overseas”.  “In Swahili, the word market is Soko. These beaded bracelets features brass pieces with glass beads for a touch of boho-chic.  The bracelet was tight as I stretched it over my hands but once on it fit with ease.

Singlesswag Magnet

Verdict:The total retail value is $67.66 (info card indicated a $70.00 value). I based the book off the Amazon price and the Crispery Crispycake off the actual website. Even though the products’ value exceeds the cost of the box, there wasn’t a high value item that wowed me. However the specialness of the box’s theme is great to have on the market and inspires women to treat themselves

What do you think of SinglesSwag?  If you’re a single woman would this be of interest?

Fun idea. I feel like the book takes away from the theme, though. It kind of implies that there’s something wrong with being single, and it’s something to be fixed. A lot of women are single by choice and it’s right for them right now. I hope this box would be geared for them, too. I would have picked something like “Phenomenal Woman” for single woman empowerment.

[Full disclosure: I’m married now, but was happily single until I was in my mid-thirties so still relate to what it feels like to be a strong, single woman.]

Nichelle

I agree, I didn’t take the book seriously and haven’t finished it; they aim at having a book in each box with a different topic. We shall see how the boxes are curated and what books will be included going forward.

Linda

“Modern Romance” by Aziz Ansari would be a good book choice, too. 🙂

...

I don’t like how they assume single women must be looking for a man. The socks are just weird. I’m perfectly happy being single, I don’t need consolation or advice. This seems like stuff for someone who just went through a divorce or breakup, which is too specific and temporary a situation to merit a subscription.

Krista

I like the soap and the body butter, but at this price point, you’re really mostly competing with the likes of PSMH and FFF, and I don’t see this comparing well against either one. The overall “empowering” theme will have to be broad enough to draw in non-singles I think to keep customers long term.

Nichelle

They are striving to encourage single gals and their books so far are geared for singleness, dating and this month’s book is all about encouragement for any woman. We shall see how their boxes will be going forward and if there will be more value put into the curations.

Mary

Hi ladies! I love this company’s message of empowerment and inspiration, particularly that women can be happy, no matter what their relationship status. As a single woman, I often feel left out or judged by married friends.

I have subscribed to PSMH and FFF previously and they have not included self-help style books like this and I unsubscribed from FFF recently because a few of the high-value items in the box i received were a jump rope and headphones, not that exciting.

Annie

Is it weird that my first concern was ‘What if someone signs up for a 6 month sub then meets the man of her dreams?!’

Traci Rhein

And what if she accidentally leaves those socks laying out and he thinks she’s breaking up with him :p

Nichelle

Your comment totally cracked me up! Maybe that would be a twist of fate though ?
