Unboxing the Bizarre Subscription Box Review – May 2016

Unboxing the Bizarre is a subscription box that helps you celebrate the wild and wacky holidays that never get the attention they deserve! Your monthly box will include items for the following month’s holidays. For example, I received the May holidays box in April. This sounds like so much fun!

This box was sent to us for review purposes. (Check out our review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

The Subscription Box: Unboxing the Bizarre

The Cost: $39.95 + $8.99 shipping = $48.94 per month for the standard box, or $49.95 + 9.99 shipping = $59.94 for the deluxe box

The Products: Items to help you celebrate an eclectic array of monthly holidays! The deluxe box also contains one additional item celebrating a traditional holiday.

COUPON: Use code MM2016 to save 15% off a 3, 6, or 12 month subscription!

Ships to: US, and website says to contact them for overseas inquiries

Check out the Subscription Box Directory and make sure to add Unboxing the Bizarre to your subscription list or wishlist!

This is a review of the standard box.

These are the holidays we will be celebrating next month with Unboxing the Bizarre:
May 4 – Star Wars Day (May the Fourth Be With You!)
May 6 – Space Day
May 18 – National Golf Day
May 26 – World Lindy Hop Day
Wow! Those are certainly obscure holidays!

The reverse side of each holiday card has some information on the item they sent for that holiday, some trivia about the holiday, and some suggestions for celebrating. This is so fun!

Duke Imports Darth Vader Twin Size Blanket – Listed Value $44.95
(I couldn’t find this online.)

Holy Midichlorians! It’s a giant fleece Darth Vader throw! It’s super soft, and it’s also humongous! It says on the info card that it’s twin size, but it fits easily over our queen size bed. It’s super cozy! As much as I would love to keep this for myself, I know a certain ten-year-old boy who just about flipped when he saw this! Awesome!

Dance Like There’s No Tomorrow – Gotham Recording Artist Swing Dance Special Volume 1 CD – Listed Value $13.99
(I couldn’t find this online, either.)

To help us celebrate World Lindy Hop Day on May 26, it’s a compilation CD full of swing music! Who doesn’t like swing music? This actually sounds like a really fun holiday to celebrate. Maybe we will try it out!

Neapolitan Astronaut Ice Cream – Value $2.56

Unboxing the Bizarre sent us one of my kids’ favorite treats to celebrate Space Day on May 6 – Astronaut Ice Cream! This did not make it to May 6; it’s already gone. I guess every day can be Space Day if you believe it is in your heart.

Desktop Mini-Golf – Value $11.54

Don’t forget to send your grandparents a card for National Golf Day on May 18! This mini golf game looks kind of fun, but no one in my family is into golfing at all. If the kids don’t use it we will probably gift this to someone who is.

Verdict: What a unique concept and super fun box! Seeing the look on my son’s face when we held up the gigantic Darth Vader blanket was enough to make the whole box worth it! Three of the items were immediate hits for us, and who knows, the golf game might end up being a hit, too. The values of the items total about $74, which is good for a $49 box. I think if your family would have fun celebrating nutty holidays, this box would be perfect for you!
