The theme for May is Adventures in the Rainforest!

This is the information card that came in this month’s package. It has a little backyard scavenger hunt on it! I think that’s a pretty fun activity, and teaches kids the similarities and differences between their home environment and the rainforest. It also has a note for parents regarding what types of play skills their children are developing with their new toys.

Toysmith Gymnastic Monkey – Value $5.59

This little guy is so cute! I didn’t think my sons (ages eight and ten) would be interested in any kind of toys any more, but they thought this little guy was hilarious! You squeeze the bars and he flips around. So funny!

Tiger Print Plush – Value 3?

What is this? This might have actually been our favorite thing in the box, because we have no idea what it is or what it’s for. It cracked us up completely trying to figure out what it might be! In the end, we decided if we were making a film that was set in the rainforest, we should throw this back and forth in the background to give the illusion of a tiger running about.

Toysmith Wooden Snake – Value $2.99

Every rainforest needs snakes! This is a quality wooden snake, and the way it’s carved / assembles gives it good slithering motion. I’m just glad it’s not made of slime!

Electronic Talk Back Finger Parakeet – Value $22.89

I couldn’t find this online for sale anywhere, but I am using the value at which this last sold on eBay. This is such a cool toy! The little parakeet sits on the child’s finger, and the child can record himself saying something, and then make the parakeet repeat it. My kids loved this little guy! They played with him forever. In fact, the parakeet has become my ten-year old’s vlog co-host!

VerdictToybox is awesome! I have to be honest, I thought initially that these toys were going to be way too young for my son, but they really weren’t. I do think a younger age range would appreciate these toys just as much, and maybe more, but my sons have already made good use of their new toys. In terms of value, the inclusion of a sold-out toy (the parakeet) drove the value of this box up to about $35, which is great for a $25 box. I think if you have the type of children who like to explore new toys every month, they will love ToyBox!
