SHTRANDS is a subscription box that sends you customized hair care regimens from a team of hairstylists and cosmetic chemists every two months. The hair care regimen includes 4 full sized cleansing, conditioning and styling products. Products included in the box should last you two months. At any point in the subscription you can choose to receive a completely new regimen or a mix of new products and ones you have already received and loved.

This is a super durable canvas bag. I used last month’s as an extra bag to store hygiene products while traveling abroad & it was perfect for that.

*Note: Before SHTRANDS sent me the first box to review I filled out a hair questionnaire. After receiving my first hair care regime they sent me a post questionnaire that allowed me to provide feedback. They asked whether I wanted to receive the same hair care products or different ones. I like to switch things up so I requested all different products to try. My bag will probably be different than others- I have long, fine curly/wavy non-color treated hair. I also said I will use non-organic products but it’s a plus if they are organic.

The creators seriously go the extra mile handwriting the instructions. It makes it extra personal & like you truly have a personal stylist. I l also like how they give you instructions on how to use the products given, it’s very helpful.

I absolutely love this shampoo & conditioner set! First off, I love having matching shampoo & conditioner. Second, it has the most wonderful natural, earthy floral scent. I love the texture and it left my hair super soft  and shiny after using it! It also had a good amount of frizz control and I battle frizz frequently due to having wavy/curly hair. This is hands down my new favorite shampoo & conditioner! According to the website the shampoo & conditioner are packed with Amazon super fruits and other powerful botanicals, has 100% natural scents and is sulfate free with antioxidant & vitamin-rich Buriti, Acai and Cupuacu. You couldn’t ask for a better natural hair care set.


Joico Curl Controlling Anti-Frizz Styler – 3.4 oz. FULL SIZE! $13.99

When I first saw this product I initially thought it was a gel, but was pleasantly surprised to see it had more of a creamy texture. This product is awesome and I can’t believe I’ve gotten this far in life without it! It made my curls smooth, soft  & shiny and kept well in my hair for two days without getting gunky ( I wash my hair every two days). This product features CurlRepair Technology that has three curl-loving breakthroughs: Bio-Advanced Peptide Complex, Triple-Oil Complex & AquaLastik Technology.

Abba Texturing Cream– 2.65 oz. FULL SIZE! $18.00

I love the smell and consistency of this texturing cream! I put it on my 2nd day straight hair and it worked amazing! It gave me the life, shine & body I needed and didn’t weigh my hair down or look greasy. I discovered the Abba brand thanks to SHTRANDS and I am officially hooked after using this product. The key botanicals in this cream are: olive butter, sunflower extract and ProQuinoa complex. I highly recommend this product!

Verdict: This has been my favorite bag from SHTRANDS so far! I really like how much work the creators put in to make sure you are happy with their sub. It’s also cool to have the option to either receive the same products or try something new. It is truly a customized hair regimen! I loved every product I received this month and have been using all products since getting them so I’m beyond happy. The shampoo & conditioner set alone was almost the cost of the sub. The total value of products given is $87.99 which is higher than the $59.00 sub price. I would recommend this to anyone that wants to switch up their hair routine, wants to try salon products at a lower cost or needs direction when it comes to hair care. I’m already anticipating my next regimen!

  2. How long does it usually take to receive the first shipment? I signed up when this review came out and am just curious. Are all shipments sent out at the same time every two to three months or is shipment dependent on sign up date?

    • Hi Susan, I’m glad you asked. The shipment depends on sign up date. We usually ship in 1-2 days after receiving an oder. Only in special cases, when we really want to send a certain product and don’t have it stock up, it will take few extra days.

  3. After this review, I signed up for the every three month service, though I think my husband will pass out when he sees the charge amount! Prior to this, my most expensive sub box was $15! But I just couldn’t resist passing up this because of the high level of personalization. I have very finicky hair, fine but coarse at the ends, naturally wavy, which means I can blow dry it straight pretty easily with a brush or curly if I use a curl product and scrunch it a bit while blow drying. Otherwise it’s frizzy. I’ve tried so many salon products to help with my hair but 95% of the products get dumped. I’m tired of trying to buy products on my own! Oh yeah, and trying to find products to keep my red colored hair (on naturally dark brown hair so the tone is subtle) vibrant is a joke. I wash my hair 1-2 times a week with the most expensive colored hair shampoo I was recommended and the color still fades after three weeks! If I could get color to last, maybe I’d start spending the money to get it done in the salon (salon color fades on me too)!

  4. This sub sent me products that I truly have no idea how I’ve lived without them this long. Also, if I bought them retail, I’d only have gotten 3 of the 4 items (so it’s basically like I got the 4th product free). Truly, though, it is more of a money saver than all the products I’ve bought at salons and paid full price for, that don’t actually work. I don’t know how on earth they could know my hair better than someone who has actually cut and styled my hair, but they’ve got a customer for life.

  5. I did not think I could fit this in to my budget but I cancelled my Ipsy and Birchbox accounts and signed up for the three month plan. I am excited to have someone that knows about hair help me. The personalization is a huge selling point.

I just wanted to let you know that what is not covered in the review is the fact that you can choose your delivery frequency (every 2 or 3 months); we do have the 6-month better value plan as well. We added the 3-month plan as a result of feedback from few customers who are building too much “hair arsenal” :-). We are continuously looking for your feedback, so anything you would like to see or change, please let us know!
    Even if you start with one plan and think other might better suit you, just cancel it and subscribe to the new one.

      Yes, as Mimi said, we will send you an email 1 week before shipping the next one so you can tell us what exactly you want to keep receiving or not. I should make this more clear on the site. Nothing ships before we hear from our customer. Only if we didn’t get any answer after 2 emails, we send a completely new regimen. Thank you!

  8. Although I think this is a GREAT idea for a sub, I wish they would send 2oz bottles & lower the price. I like to sample products in subs & have a discount to buy full size if I choose. At this price point, it’s too much of a gamble.

    • Ditto! I only wash my hair twice per week and I have so many products unfinished or unopened… I can’t justify buying more even if it means finding my holy grail. I really want to try to this but need to use up (or give away or throw out) a lot of products before I can.

  9. This is quickly moving up my list of favorite, must-keep subscriptions. I love the personalization — it really is like having a personal hair stylist shopping for the best products for your hair. My hair is almost to my hips, dyed galaxy-styled, fine and thick. The products I get from this subscription are, literally, tailor-made for my hair. I also like that you can choose to get the same or a different product (this month I got the same conditioner as last time, just in a different scent). I highly, highly recommend this box to everyone.
