BoxyCharm is a full-size beauty and makeup subscription box. They always provide a great value compared the cost of the box.

This box was sent to us for review purposes. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

The Subscription Box: BoxyCharm

The Cost: $21 a month

The Products: 5-6 beauty items that will include nail care, skin care, makeup, haircare, fragrance and more. (At least 4 of those items will be full-sized).

Ships to: US

Check out all of my BoxyCharm reviews and the Beauty Subscription Box Directory!

Each box comes with a card detailing the items included.

Ella + Mila Nail Polish in Pistache – FULL SIZE! Value $10.50

This is a 5-free, cruelty free, and vegan nail polish! This pale mint green creme shade is gorgeous, too.

Catherine Malandrino Romance de Provence Deluxe Mini Sprayer – .3 oz Value $19.50

Boxycharm has sent out fragrance from Catherine Malandrino before, so I would have preferred a different brand of perfume (or a non-perfume item), but at least this is a 6 item box!

Pur Minerals Double Ego Eyeliner in Queensland – FULL SIZE! Value $21

This double sided eyeliner has a liquid eyeliner pen on one end, and pencil on the other. I was expecting the color to be the same for both shades, but the liquid liner is actually a lighter shade of teal. (Both are swatched in photo at the end of the review.)

The reviews of this product on the Pur Minerals site aren’t good – the main issues identified: the liquid liner drying out, and the pencil breaking too easily. I’ve only been using it for a day, so I can’t comment on that part yet.

Starlooks Ultra Longwear Mechanical Lip Pencil – FULL SIZE! Value $19.50

I like the color of this liner and it has impressive staying power. (Swatched in a lower photo.) When I twisted the pencil up all the way it is only about 1 inch of lip pencil, so I’m wondering if this is the standard amount in Starlooks lip pencils, or if that’s just for this Boxycharm lip pencil edition?

Makeup Geek Blush in XOXO – FULL SIZE! Value $15

(Shades will vary). First, I’m so glad this came in a compact and not in a pan! (Lately, Boxycharm has been sending out pan-only makeup.) And second, yay for getting to try another full-size Makeup Geek item! The pigment on this blush is great – I’m starting to understand why so many people are obsessed with this brand! (Swatched below.)

The BrowGal Eyebrow Gel – FULL SIZE! Value $20

I’m not too particular when it comes to eye brow gels. As long as they provide hold, I’m happy – and this one fits the bill!

Here are the swatches from this box.

Liquid Liner, Pencil Liner, Lip Liner, Blush:

Verdict: The value of this box is about $105 – amazing for a $21 box. I’ll use everything in this box except the perfume, so the value is great for me. My favorite items this month are the blush and nail polish.

What do you think of the May 2016 Boxycharm Box?

BoxyCharm ($25 per month) is one of the most popular beauty subscription boxes that we review, with lots of loyal customers. They promise 4-5 full-size beauty products each month from a variety of both indie and established brands, with a total retail value of over $100 in every box. The beauty item... read more.

This has been my favorite box from them lately. I haven’t been too thrilled with the past few boxes (I’m not a fan of the makeup pans we’ve gotten)

I think the only thing I didn’t like was that perfume. It smells just as strong as the last one we received. I really, really liked everything else in the box though.

The nail polish requires so many coats to even show up but it lasts FOREVER! And I mean, that’s an adorable little elephant!

And then that blush. Oh. My. Word. That is a very, very nice blush! So excited I got it!

This was my second box and overall I’m pretty happy with it. I got the green eyeliner and I look forward to branching out of my comfort zone and trying new colors. As for the perfume…I really don’t mind getting new scents to try and as long as it’s not one of those useless vials and has a sprayer I’m good to go lol
I went into all of my subs with the intent of trying things I never would have on my own.

Glad I cancelled, I would not have used any of these items.

I like all of their box’s. I got green eyeliner. Blush was xoxo.

I got the same colors as Liz! I just received my box yesterday so I haven’t had a chance to try anything yet, but I’m looking forward to using everything.

for me…i am so glad i canceled this box. i cant believe that is a 121 dollar value ? sure doesn’t seem it to me. but value for me is based more on if i would actually use the products.

Yeah it’s definitely not worth it. I subbed from like 2014 till a couple of months ago and they just keep repeating the same brands & products ? The fact that they’re never really notable brands doesn’t help things either.

I agree. I don’t personally have this sub, I’ve heard a lot of good things about it but to be honest after the reviews I’ve seen it just doesn’t seem worth it to me personally. I can’t believe it’s 121 dollars either, it seems closer to like, 20 to me, but like you said it’s pretty subjective.

Looks pretty good. I’ve been keeping an eye on this one in case Play!, Ipsy or Julep start lacking, this one also seems to have more full-sized items, from what I can tell, nice!

I received the same items and colors. I’m not impressed lately with the boxes. The one thing I was very excited about was the MUG blush and that color is just not a good mix for my skin tone. I did swatch it and it’s gorgeous but not for my yellow undertones olive skin. As for the teal eyeliner I was glad it wasn’t black but teal is a little too young for me to be wearing at my age. I could care less to ever receive a polish or perfume sample again. So this box was a complete miss but I know it’s a g amble so I will just have to swap ot give this box away.

I’m 58 and teal is one of my favorite eyeliner colors to wear — give it a try!

Cancel then wait for MSA to do a full spoiler and resub if you want I think a lot of people do it because of the price point and because not every box suits our personal tastes. If you resub you should get the current month’s box no issue and no more wasted money on thing you don’t like.

I liked the products in this box. I got the same eyeliner, but the Soulmate blush, which I think will work better with my coloring.

Seems like Boxycharm is back on track after a few so-so months. I don’t share the Pur Minerals reviewers’ bad opinion of the duo eyeliner — I got the Queensland shade a few month ago and it’s still going strong, no breaks or drying out and both teal shades are gorgeous! (From Boxy, I got Madagascar which is brown; I’m lucky I didn’t get a repeat!) I got the MG blush in “Soulmate” and boy, the pigmentation is not kidding around. One gentle swipe on each cheek and I look like someone caught doing something I shouldn’t be. lol The compact is so well made too and has a nice mirror. I’m a nail polish hoarder and have never owned any Ella + Mila, so that’s a win, too! I’m meh about the perfume; to me, all her ‘fumes smell exactly the same. But I don’t hate it, and will probably use it or gift it.

That’s what I thought about the perfume. It was so strong and smelled almost identical to the last one we got. I can’t believe they retail for like $80 for full size bottles.

Also LOL @ “Getting caught doing something I shouldn’t be” 😀

I received the SoulMate MUG and I Luv the color!! I was so hoping for this blush color. I got the Green eyeliner and again..very happy! My eyes are green with very obvious orange specks…weird I know lol.. the liner and pencil makes my eyes pop! Also luv the nail polish color. Gorgeous!

I can understand why many might like this box but I’m sooooo happy I cancelled a couple of months ago. Each to their own but I wouldn’t had used most of these items. So I would had paid $21 for a nail polish and maybe a very small perfume if I liked the scent.

I cancelled the last week of April and do not have any regrets. I’ll see what spoilers come out for June and maybe I’ll go back. I haven’t been thrilled with them for a few months. They need to up their game to where it used to be.

I got the same products as you but a different color eye pencil /liner in light brown and black liner.Wish I had received teal ,I’m so over getting black liner.Am I the only person who likes getting perfume samples? As long as it’s a decent amount and a nice scent I’m good.Loved the lip pencil it goes nicely with a lot of lip products I own.I loved the idea of getting makeup geek blush but it seems really dark ,so we shall see.Love the nail polish color. The final product the eyebrow gel is lost on me I never had much brows to begin with and after chemo I have very little blond brows ,go figure I’m a brunette .So all in all a good box

I like perfume samples this one is pretty good but not a every day scent for me it’s a bit strong for my usual tastes but i like how generous the sample is and that its not a darn vial. I hope you are doing better health wise.

I highly recommend using Latisse to regrow brows post-chemo. I’ve seen it work wonders on 3 ladies so far. The dermatologist says it’s an off label use but he’s seen amazing results from everyone who tried it so he now recommends it for that use.

Do I have to get this from a dermatologist ? I have heard of this ,isn’t it for your lashes ? But I’d heard it changes the color of your eyes my eyes are blue ,while going thru chemo they changed to green that was in 2002,this past year they finally went back to blue I like my blue eyes lol

EC, do you know if Latisse only works on brows with continued use? In other words, if you get your brows the way you want them, can you stop using it, or will the hairs fall out and stop growing? I have found that with the RapidLash if you don’t continue using it, your brows go back to the way they were before.

I was disappointed that the brow gel didn’t have any pigment too…. I have dark blonde hair mixed with bright silver. Brows are dark blonde mixed with light blonde…. I’m wishing more companies will come out with products similar with color (like a taupe would be quite generic….)

I received the same items in the exact same colors, and I’m really happy with this box. Like you, the only item I won’t use is the perfume. I love the blush, and I hope I don’t have issues with the eyeliners drying out & breaking because I really like the colors. The nail polish is gorgeous, I can always use brow gel, and I don’t have many lip liners so I’m glad to have another.

I was just asking was I the only one to like perfume samples lol glad someone is in my boat

Jess R

Does anyone know long how it usually takes to receive your first box? I actually bought this box yesterday because I really wanted the perfume. I got a sample of it in the Amazon box. I might be in the minority, but I am obsessed with it. It smells so good! But its also about $110 for 3 ounces. So I definitely wanted to snap up a larger sample. The other items look amazing as well, so I could not resist!

They usually send the box for the month you’re currently in, so I would expect you’d get the May box. You might not get the MakeupGeek blush though, because it was an ‘as long as supplies last’ item.

Jess R

Thanks Danielle! I do hope I get May and not experience an Allure-like situation haha. I really, really want that perfume. I would love the blush but understand if they ran out since I signed up so late. I just hope I get it the box in the mail before my honeymoon June 9th!
